I got the update yesterday, then proceeded to play for about five hours. The entire time, my unlocked specializations were there. However, once I shut down and rebooted the Xbox, the specializations were locked again.
Does anyone know if the specializations will return if I remove the update by clearing the cache and loading my latest post-patch save while playing offline? Now that I've typed that out, it doesn't seem likely.
I wonder if removing the update and playing offline with a pre-patch save would work, though. Pity I am at work at can't test it out for another 6 hours.

How do we clear the Xbox 360's cache anyway?
#53
Posté 14 janvier 2010 - 06:32
clearing the cache should fix it since it was delivered with the last patch

I found a solution to the problem! Step one, go play different game. Step two go wait for the to fix their absolutely colossal mistake.
If I clear the cache I'm still buggered, because it wont let me play the damn thing off-line. Says the DLC is corrupt. Does anyone know if its RTO or the update or both?

Lol, I booted it up, got my update (and missing achievements) and turned off the game. Good thing I didn't bother to load up a game, that would have sucked to have my specializations relocked.

Yeah, that's fine and good, eyesadrift, but that doesn't help those of us who already downloaded the content.

i would assume (yes yes ill make an ass of myself) that once its back online the people who already downloaded it would be able to place, since you know when you first start the game up it scans for downloaded content.

I figure that too, but that doesn't change the irritation that those of us who were able to download the new content now lost all the hard work we did before.
And me? I tend to delete old characters to free up space, so I don't have a "pre-DLC" save.

that's understandable and blows chunks for those who are going through it, but i just posted hoping that would explain something, meh. I didn't get it yet.

I'm in the same boat as you. I have one old character saved (though I played RTO with him and haven't touched him since powering down and discovering the spec issue on my new character). I'd intended to go through the game a few more times creating a few "master" playthroughs to take to Awakenings. So I've got about 20 hours into this new character and no telling whether a fix to this bug will be able to fix the damage done to this playthrough.
Normally I just ignore a lot of the mongering about bugs and patches. I never considered any of them game-breaking, after all, just minor annoyances the type you see in basically all new games. But this one is pretty big and very frustrating.
Yes, in the grand scheme of things, it's not the worst thing that could happen in life. But it is annoying.

My specs are all locked as well, even after clearing the cache. I came back to camp to level up everyone, went to Oghren's screen, and it lists Champion/Templar as locked. I'm at the point in my playthrough where everyone has 2 specializations, so it doesn't matter for now, but I'm concerned about playing new PCs and everything being relocked.

Yeah, that's where I'm at; it sucks, especially when you have a specialization that you only get one shot at getting; Reaver, Shapeshifter and Arcane Warrior.
Meh, I'm going to continue playing the game and not worry about specializations to much until the game gets reupdated to fix this bug.

shapeshifter only allows you one possibility to unlock? Morrigan will at least teach it to another character. How about ones where you have to buy the book, and now that you've bought it, the book is gone and nobody teaches it, like Spirit healer? Now you can't do spirit healer period!
I don't know what's up with all this, but this is about as much frustration as I've gotten between having dex bugs and other things broken and never fixed, to new fixes that breaks new things, and rto which has been promised, pulled, delivered, pulled...etc.
If this happened in any other industry, it could put the company out of business. But because it's a game, it's okay? Oh well. Will play something else or do somehting else.

yeah my baby mage is 7 im just playing till it's fixed so i can do my spec. I wouldnt imagine you'd have to start over, that would blow, but since it's a great game to begin with, i wouldnt mind playing it through again, i planned on it to see all the stories and multiple endings.

I held off on installing the update because, if it was just a problem with propagating achievements, Microsoft would have it corrected soon. After I got home from work today, I crossed my fingers and installed. So far, no specializations have locked, so let's hope this is a good sign.

Since then, I've saved, loaded, shut down the game, shut down my console, reloaded, re-saved, reloaded again, and all of my specializations are still working. So it looks like everything is working as intended now. Knock on wood.SSoG wrote...

I never downloaded RTO but I did get the update and all specializations that weren't assigned are re-locked. The manuals are not available for purchase and my other DLC come up as corrupt when ever I first log into the game. I have to log in as my husband to reload the ones he logged and then as myself to reload the one I purchased in order to be able to play. Joy of joys.

SSoG. Good on you. I downloaded the update yesterday because I didn't know this happened. Played fora while, shut down. All appeared well.
Loaded up about 2 hours ago. All my specializations not in use by the character are locked. I did NOT buy RtO. only the title update. I didn't have a problem with achievements to begin with, as far as I know. I don't care about achievements. But this...locked specializations... means no Spirit Healer. No Arcane Warrior until I get to that quest again. No blood mage unless I make that deal again. And then, once I turn off, they all go away again.
And then there's the silence here. What's that about? The Ranting and raving happening on the main forum has everyone thinking the problem is RtO. But if that were the case, why would it affect me? I have never had RtO on my system. It was offered and pulled before I ever knew it was offered. And if you're stupid enough to start playing a game without checking the forum for game breaking bugs every time..you expect an update. I get them all the time for other games I haven't played. Never once have they broke my game. A mage without a specialization? What good is that? Or maybe never turn the console/game off, but there's a memory leak so it will ultimately become unplayable anyway.
I did not complain about the memory leak, I worked around it.
I did not complain about the dex issue, I compensated in my character build.
I did not complain when they announced, renounced and then announced and then pulled RtO.
But this! I can't even have what I used to have, what I paid good money for. If it doesn't get fixed, I'll do what I do with all things I buy that don't work. I'll return it for a refund.

I too am having the same issue. I updated, but was waiting to buy RtO (I always wait a day in case of bugs), so I played on and did not even notice it until today when my new character reached level 7. It is frustrating, and hopefully fixable. And it is reassuring it is not just me.

The patch has a known bug- which is why they pulled it. Some of us were unfortunate enough to be caught by it. They are working on the problem. See the link above.

Well thank you. I was just looking around for some news from them, though I did not expect it in the general discussion. I figured it had to do with the update, relieved that it was not a personal corruption of data. I have other games I can occupy myself with til I can enoy the game hassle free. Just wish they had an idea of how long it was going to take to fix it.

I don't want any idea of how long it will take. Look at the mess those estimates have caused. I have a few characters I can play that are past level 14. guess I can play them.

Good news! If you clear the cache on the 360, any specializations you unlock will remain unlocked. This is because Microsoft has removed the title update from LIVE. The catch is you have to unlock them again.
To clear your Xbox 360 cache.
- On the Dashboard, go to System Settings
- Select Memory
- Highlight your storage device and press Y for Device Options
- Select Clear Cache (if you don't have that option, press X, X, LB, RB, X, X
- Say Yes when asked if you want to perform maintenance on your Xbox
This clears all title updates from your system. It will not delete your saves or DLC.
If you have old saves, load them back up and unlock those hard-to-get specializations, like Champion or Blood Mage or Arcane Warrior. If you don't have any old saves, well, at least anything new you unlock will stay that way.
