Good news! If you clear the cache on the 360, any specializations you unlock will remain unlocked. This is because Microsoft has removed the title update from LIVE. The catch is you have to unlock them again.

To clear your Xbox 360 cache.

- On the Dashboard, go to System Settings
- Select Memory
- Highlight your storage device and press Y for Device Options
- Select Clear Cache (if you don't have that option, press X, X, LB, RB, X, X
- Say Yes when asked if you want to perform maintenance on your Xbox

This clears all title updates from your system. It will not delete your saves or DLC.

If you have old saves, load them back up and unlock those hard-to-get specializations, like Champion or Blood Mage or Arcane Warrior. If you don't have any old saves, well, at least anything new you unlock will stay that way.

Only if you don't get the patch and play offline otherwise when you turn you xbox off they will lock again when you next start up.

Hm, no? The above procedure removes the title update from your system and Microsoft has removed the update from XBL. So, even if you play online, the update won't be re-applied and your specializations should remain unlocked - this is theoretically speaking from me, I haven't applied the "fix" yet, but there's several people who apparently already have and had their specializations stay unlocked.

It still doesn't help the ones that you need a book for. Icannot believe this. I was all ready for a second run with proper specs and this happens. And the boards are still silent from any employee. Thanks for that A+ customer service.

Good thing I'm taking this in stride as a programming student. I'd be pissed if I didn't understand how hard this stuff is to do. (Of course, it'd help me greatly if Microsoft would GET MY REPAIR ORDER FINISHED.)

According to other players, you can unlock those with either an earlier save (where you hadn't bought the book yet), or using a different/new character. Again, just relaying information, I haven't done it myself yet.

As I posted earlier, the problem is not with RTO but with the update patch.
I have not downloaded RTO or even purchased it yet but my specs are still locked. As far as Microsoft removing the update, I still get prompted for it every time I launch the game. As far as I know they have only removed the DLC.
Also, I have tested to see if the unlocks hold with and without the patch which is why I know what happens.

I've already purchased and played through RTO, when it is finally re-released will there be a possibility of me having to download a different version of it? Also does anyone know if RTO works without the title update?

start a new game.  work until you're about to unlock each specialization and create a save game.  maybe 7 hours to have saves for a good number of them.  just a guess, though.  i'm a bit of a perfectionist so it could probably take less time than i think.
and if you're close to a specialization on a character you're using just save your character with "level-up".  work through to the specialization then load up the save.  it's what i'm about to do for the arcane warrior, at least.   i'm level 12 with 4 level-ups saved up...

Thank u!

This in fact did work for me. The only thing is all my specialization
didn't come back intill i at least reunlocked one. Then i restarted my
system and they were all back unlocked.

There's no update appearing when I sign in. Ok, we'll do it the hard way, and reload old saves to regain them. Sheesh.

I too have just done the clear system cache, unlock one spec, shutdown, and reload method. I can confirm that my specs are back, too. It appears this works, if you have an old enough save to unlock one spec again!

Bioware does have a brilliant reputation of screwing things up when it comes to expansions and updates. i do not think i will preorder the new expansion out in march as it is most likely going to come out in 2034 and then it will still be buggy :-)

This is so epic fail!  I was literally 10 minutes of gameplay away from reaching my next level with Alister and giving him the champion spec.  Guess not right.  Btw, I cleared my cache too and did not work.  This is completely unacceptable that we buy a game and get a fun-killer patch that pretty much ruins the gaming experience.  Now I know why games have a diclaimer on the back that says game experience may change on XBL. Clearing the cache worked for me, thanks. Also the X, X, LB, RB, X, X is only on the old verson of the Dashboard, when you press Y on Device Options it listed on the options to clear cache so no having to do some kind of Sonic the Hedgehog cheat code to do it.

It worked for me as well. Thank you to whoever figured that out. I have my specializations back and I can continue my quest.

You have to clear it, unlock one spec, exit out to the dashboard (or possibly reboot the console), and then all your specs should be back. This has worked for me and most others. Did you follow all steps, or did you just clear the cache?

Just tried clearing my cache, reloading an old save to get a spec, and exiting the game/console. So, it worked... but just with that one particular spec, lol. So I've been going back over my dozen or so save points to grab what I can, though I don't think I can get Arcane Warrior back without another couple hours of play, and the Berserker tome is gone/Oghren won't teach it to me. I guess I will try a few more saves to see if I can get around this.

I was lucky enough to get the Arcane Warrior for wynne before I updated but I waited to spec up for most of my allies - so now I have like 5 characters that I apparently won't be able to spec up anymore at all. Even if they make a fix for this I will be long done with this character build (they still need to patch this game either way & my bet's a month minimum before we see it).

Other problems with the update (not the new DLC, I don't have it yet but I have had all the other DLC since day 1)

I experienced 2 corrupted game saves - luckily I was able to go a couple hours back on a different game save, so all was not lost. This happened right after I did a money trick at redcliffe where you keep going in & out of the inn to get Shales Chrystal Armor from the bar maid than run down to sell it to the blacksmith down the hill - rinse & repeat - got up to around 350 gold and went to Soldier Peak to dump a few sets of newly discovered Brilliant Chrystal Armor as well as re-suit a few allies, made a couple game saves. Next night I go to load last save and it won't let me. Last good save was before I picked up all that gold (about 200+ gold)?

They have to quit putting out patches (updates) that make the game more buggy than before. This kind of sucks that I don't have any problems until they try to fix things? What the hell man.

Maybe a noonish question. But if they took the update down and I haven't loaded it up in over a week I shouldn't have any issues right?
