Am I the only one who liked the pseudo-cartoony art style of Dragon Age 2?

DA2 didn't have even one redeeeming quality.

Pretty much. And bland, empty, cartooy graphics certainly wasn't a positive.

At a time where there are AAA games like Skyrim, TW2, Dark Souls, Dragon's Dogma, etc. are coming out, DA2 looked  like it was made by an indie studio.
Not to mention all the other games gave you huge worlds with those graphics, while DA2 opted to limit your sorry a*s to one city - and even that was done half-assedly.

TW2 isn't that big. It's bigger than DA2, but it's not a "huge world".

It still had more than 1 cave map, and 1 house map.

I thought the new art style was just an excuse for bland, unfinished textures.

I did say it's bigger than DA2 (eh, it's not that great achievement), with graphics that blows away DA2 (though to be fair TW2 on maximum settings blows aways DS, vanilla Skyrim and DD too). That still doesn't change the fact that it's not a huge world. Which isn't necessarily bad, but TW2 shouldn't be put among the games with a huge world.

Ohh I wasn`t having a go at you. I was just adding the fact about the caves etc. I agree that TW2 does not have a huge world at all. It doesn`t need to. Frankly,  DA2 didn`t need a huge world either.

You're playing a semantics game now because you can't address the argument here. Your fight here is with the English language. "Mod" in this context is a short form of the word "modification."

Or module.

The purpose of modifing something is to inflict change.

Or to add content, while leaving what's in the original game unchanged.

Therefore, if you make mods, it's because you want to change something.

Or  you want to add something new to the game.  Ex: a new NPC.  A new weapon.  a New quest.  a New piece of armor.....

It wasn't good for female characters.  It gave them all round faces.

I liked the art style. I was fine with the cartooney look of it. I was fine with both of those aspects in DA legends as well. But to do it again... i dunno :/ I'd like to see what they can pull off with the new engine.

I wasn't a huge fan of DA2's visuals. Not because they were "cartoony" per se (Although some of the combat animations looked like they belonged in a Tom-and-Jerry cartoon, not a fantasy game) but becuase a lot of them were just... bleh.

Kirkwall looked very bland and brown/grey, not a very visually interesting place. It would have been fine if there were multiple locations, but as the only area...

And then of course we have abominations like the decrepit zombie hands :shudders:. The only things I remember really standing out in a positive way visually were the Qunari redesign and the way hair occasionally moved (ever so slightly more realistic than DA:O, though still nowhere near what the thread about the new hair modelling software in TR allows is promoting)

Looks like some people just aren't very good at making decent looking characters. All of my Wardens and Hawke (except my male dwarf and possibly my male elf) look excellent.

It seems that some people didn't know that ManHawke always looks bad if you use the clearest or second clearest c skin complextion, and that the only way to make a decent looking ManHawke is to use the middle option (the third clearest and third messiest option).

I think that overall, DA2 was better than Origins in CC.

If you add content, then the original game is changed. Addition is a kind of change. If you graft an extra arm to your chest, then you haven't changed any other part of your body, but your whole body is now different because it has an extra arm.

I hated it. The cartoony look reminded me of Anime. The fast combat lended itself to the look. I appreciated Dragon Age: Origin characters. They were realistic and more engaging.

I tend to like stylised graphics. Things that look unique gets lots of bonus points in my book. For instance, Dark Souls may be pretty but I've seen it all before. Paper Mario 2 though, that looks fantastic to this day.

So yeah, I prefer the DA2 graphics style as well.

Here are some of the many, many screens I've taken of DA2.  I'm not playing on the highest settings, because I'm still running Windows XP and it can't run DX11.

I do install mods, but they're pretty much limited to things that let me dress the characters as I please or swap head morphs, since DA2 has no toolset and is harder to mod than DA:O.

So what you see is what you get in my screens- all original game content, repurposed.  The only editing I've done is to crop them.  Enjoy!

I have a ton more, but as the above demonstrate, I think that DA2 had some beautiful models and textures, great use of lighting in some areas, beautiful expressions and more.  And these are NOT on the highest graphic settings.

Did DA2 have its problems?  Absolutely.  But some of us loved it. <3

I do love the art direction in that game. Yeah there are a lot of areas where the game... fails to live up to its design. But the design is great.

And weirdly enough the one thing that I always pause to admire whenever I start another game in DA2 is Bethany's pants. I don't know why but I love the detail on her pants.

I liked it too, the slightly cartoony style allowed them to put an impressive amount of detail into the graphics while mostly steering clear of the uncanny valley.

The elves, the darkspawn, the oversized weapons, the power rangers combat (+ blood), the ghasts, the wyvern....all looked way cartoony. I had a very very hard time getting into the serious tones of the game because of it.

This as well.

Like the rest of the game... I did not like the art-style for DA2. The whole tone of the game felt wrong for me.

I think you are in the wrong place m8. There are people on these boards who actually believe DA 2 was a good game; you cannot expect not to get stupid comments at any time.

I can make an awesome looking character in any cc, making characters is one if my favorite things ^_^ I didn't like how you only got one mouth style in DA2 and the female faces felt very restrictive and all had a chubby face no matter what you do.

selective perception doesnt work like that dino m8. In order to become a true DA2 fan you have to ignore all of the atrocious art and graphics, and pay all your attention to the few occasions when the game isn't embarrassingly bad looking and go from there.

In all seriousness I don't think there is a sequel in existence that manages to have such dramatically worse graphics than Dragon Age 2 did compared to DAO

I couldn't stand it. Dragon Age has never had an art style which I'd want BioWare to stick with, but DA II's visuals was certainly one of the factors that made the game seem so underwhelming.
