The U.S.S. Rouse needed a P.T. boat to pick up the occasional man overboard.

That's right, I liked the metaphor, so I went ahead and used it twice!

No. Entirely too much stress for too few credits. More importantly, too much damn stress.

Yesterday morning, I played a couple of Gold PuGs, because Banshee screams were starting to get to me, a little. It was nice. I really enjoyed it.

I think in the space of about 2 weeks (between S-Bechter X, common characters/weapns tourney, and the Challenge this week) I have become a lot better as a player.

And I finally remembered to slow down and aim again (I had forgotten for a little while.)

Platinum is fun, with the right team. I had fun helping people this week, too, but standing around Heavy Meleeing as a Juggernaut takes a long time. And I wasn't strong enough to help people with anything else (without risking a wipe) so I had to get a little bored with Juggy this week.

I think I'll have a new appreciation for Gold, when I finally get to settle back into it.

Well, given that I PUG almost 100% of the time, I don’t find Platinum particularly enjoyable, as the majority of players aren’t concerned enough with tactics, nor do they make sure to have proper loadouts (seriously, I was just playing over the weekend with a PUG who had a lv. 20 AIU that wasn’t using cloak. Like, ever; I’m not sure he even specced into it). If you’ve got level X URs and good ammo consumables you’re probably going to find it perfectly doable, but outside of that, generally PUGging on Plat is a slog. I think Gold is the perfect balance, because it can be pretty difficult if you’re using an unfamiliar kit or a bad weapon (I tried the Adas on Gold recently…thank god I was the Juggernaut), but with good teamwork and/or a good kit, you’ll be fine. Silver is a little too easy if you know what you’re doing, and Platinum is again geared too much towards DPS to be fun for all kit types, at least in my opinion.

Also, while I wish we would’ve gotten some type of banner tweak to acknowledge completion of the Operation on Plat, I understand why they didn’t make one.

It's fun. You pick random match and get FB Rio anyway. After few lobbies of searching (some with <20 lvl characters, players without single consumable or low N7) you just move on with a goddamn Rio. Then you go to the box and wait for waves 3,6,10,11 to go out and use some missiles along with medi-gels and ops survival packs. You die at wave 11 on way to LZ, because between boxes and LZ there is little or no cover and you can't just run through Brutes and other fatties. Then you use medi-gel to be locked in sync-kill by a single Phantom who missed rocket blast.

That's from PC player who can't host due to poor upload speed and doesn't want a new friends, what would force him to overdose ME3.

There's actually plenty of foot soldiers and "standard" elite enemies on Platinum; it's pretty fun provided at least two players know how to carry their own weight.

I would not tackle platinum until you've maxed out your selection of rare weapons though. I've seen far too many players try to cover for using under-leveled Eviscerators by spamming powers like Shockwave. It doesn't work.

It's fine. It's a bit hectic when you don't have a Juggernaut. but when you do, it's laughably easy. I started playing it this weekend and I'm loving all the credits I'm getting.

The Rio Box of Shame is boring.

Going to Firebase Hydra with a team of Juggernaut, Volus, Justicar, and Fury, camping in the orb room, crowding around the east doorway with the Juggernaut acting as a brick wall, the Justicar and Fury exploding everything while the Volus keeps everyone alive? Very exciting, very challenging, not boring at all. And when we managed to somehow pull off a full extraction... exhilarating.

I really enjoy Platinum with good teammates. I typically have to be carried by the king of scrubs FlashAK. Especially, the one game I forgot to spec out my Fury!!

Yeah, platinum with a good team is not much harder than gold. But I personally only enjoy it in small doses. Pick the characters with highest DPS to deal with boss spam. Rinse, repeat. Yawn.

At this point, I don't really care about maxing out my manifest, so the credits aren't much incentive. But I've always played it for the fun and silliness, so I'm weird that way. Heck, I still play silver.

I'd also add that when you don't know the quality of the hosts Internet and pc it can make the game infinitely more difficult. I think I was dropped into matches where the host was on a 486 with dialup. The lag was terribad.
And when I hosted the phantoms seemed invincible thanks to their buff against hosts. Ultimately I had to host and just deal with it to, it prolly made it more difficult for others thanks to the 60fps lock but at least it was consistent.

I've never enjoyed Platinum until this weekend. My good buddy HeroicMass asked me to run some games with him to help people from BSN to get their extractions for the challenge and I was surprised by how much fun I had. My previous memories of Platinum were of fairly boring and static games, just spamming DPS. But this time the games were mobile and fluid, a lot more enjoyable than in the past.

I'd actually guess that the real reason I had bad memories of Platinum is that I don't have many friends that play in my timezone (GMT) and so most of my experience has been with PUGS.

I'm someone who's perfectly content with playing on Gold because I've only ever tried 1 Platinum match and, to be perfectly frank, it scarred me. You'd think that, with 2 TGI's with Harrier's 6 + 8 respectively and a Kroguard, you'd think it wouldn't be too painful, but oh no. FBW on Cerberus, it was wave 9 by the time I got stun-locked into a corner and finished off, and the whole match these 2 TGI's were spitting abuse right from the moment when they went down on wave 2. Think I finished on top at around 160K with the QMI, but i'm never doing a Pug plat match again. NEVER.

So no, they aren't particularly "fun".

PUGs always have a good chance to be brutal, and
platinum-level Phantoms and TURRETS(!!!) can be a nightmare if you’re not
prepared for them.

I always like plat speedrunning with a competent team because I enjoy challenging myself to get more perfect at it.

But normal platinums I don't particularly like. It's not actually hard, per se, and if I get a group of my friends together we can probably clear it comfortably in 20-25 minutes. But it's frustrating, and annoying - much like the geth actually. If someone asks me to plat with them, I am willing to do so, but if I am tired and stressed out (which is only 6.5/7 days a week), it will end with yelling, keyboard mashing, and ragequits.

Which is BAD, btw. I don't play this game for credits, or a shiny manifest. I play it to enjoy myself, to have fun, to distract from the craploads of work I'm totally doing right now :? and plat makes it feel too much like, say, doing my Algs homework. Spending time and stress and frustration for relatively little return - when a game becomes work, it's not worth playing anymore.

As Kipac said, just a boss spam.

Now, if we could do platinum against ONE faction, that would be different.

If you like killing bosses and use thermal clips, you'll have a blast. Otherwise, not so much. Good for the money though.

It's "fun" with a high DPS class. It's some kind of wicked e-peen kind of fun. I prefer Gold, it's more balanced, as in, I can play with literally any kit. But Plat gives more monies, and my manifest is faaaaaaaaaaaar from complete.

Only if you are paired with 3 other great players. Otherwise it becomes rather tedious. While I played a lot more Platinum recently I still would not be able to carry an entire team in PUG match since I die too much.

Gold with 1-2 other good players is fun for awhile then it becomes a race to killing mooks. I have not hit my "sweet" spot on what setup is the most fun for me yet.

Plat is fun but it limits your weapon/class options if you want to remain efficient at killing stuff. After a while you just find yourself coming back to certain few classes. Gold gives more flexibility. What I really find fun on platinum is that It requires people to play smart and as a team. Well unless u get a bunch of trigger happy gun nuts who barely notice the difference between gold and plat (Running around headshotting phantoms etc, slaughtering stuff like cattle) but that's fun too.

Edit: Typo fixed

I've done it all, the speed runs, the Rio box of shame, holding the extraction on Giant, running around playing normal & I can honestly say that platinum has NEVER been "fun". Platinum is only about the credits. Get in, get out, get paid as fast as possible.

You know what's fun? Soloing bronze or silver with my Shadow or EDIbot with Powerman 5000 (or any hard rock/metal) cranking in the background. That's where this game really shines. But I bet most players haven't tried it. Teammates actually ruin multiplayer.
