Just finished the main mission of the DLC

I was playing with Adept on Insanity. The whole game felt nice & easy. Leviathan, Omega no problem.
Until the Citadel DLC.

35 hours spent to make that playthrough perfect. I will not finish the playthrough.

I'm re-rolling with something with more firepower.
These Shielded enemies were hopeless. I'd wish we had Disruptor Ammo as Bonus Power.
I managed with Flare. I totally ignored Throw power. I was focusing on Warp/Shockwave 10 meters or Singularity/Warp BEs only. A little mistake there.

I know there's Reave or Energy Drain that can make it less worst, but these are just over used by ME2 playthroughs.
Area Reave is the bomb against Collectors.

EDIT: One Topic where you read an Adept being stuck, and re-rolling for Vanguard.

http://social.biowar.../index/16185845

EDIT: I restarted the campaign, I chose Sentinel class. This time I'll play nasty against CAT6 Mercs. Chain Overload, Ammo Capacity +30% from Armor Piercing Bonus Power, a nice Cerberus Harrier V and a Talon pistol V. I'll choose proper squad mates too.

Satisfaction and revenge will be great. :D

If you want a bonus power that takes down shields, you have one. Energy Drain.

The OP has a point:

1.  You should not have to take a particular bonus power (Energy Drain in this case) just to make it through the DLC.  In the early stages, you really do since you have a cruddy pistol, and highty shielded enemies that hit hard (and you have no armor and no health for much of this).

2.  A lot of Adept players don't like Energy Drain because it's a tech power and doesn't fit for an Adept.

3.  Energy Drain even when maxxed is actually fairly weak, and it gives you away.  Sure you drain the sheilds of one mook, but his four friends then kill you.

I agree with the OP.  The first couple of encounters in the DLC are badly designed.  They look to be nearly impossible for some classes (Adept) and ridiculously easy for others (like Infliltrator) that can cloak.

It's really not kind to adepts, that mission. Unless you have energy drain. Particularly the first bit with no squad mates to provide shield stripping.

You're right. I told myself to avoid Energy Drain at all cost though. To keep the Biotic feel.

If only Singularity DOT would work on shields like in Multiplayer, That would've been nice.

I couls use the Adas, but it's kinda heavy. Acolyte or Arc Pistol.

Hmmmm.

Overall, playing as Adept the Citadel DLC was not enjoyable at all. Dying so quickly sucks.

I'm re-rolling.

Yeah, it was hard to get through on Adept without shield removing powers, ugh. I pretty much spammed singularity and shot the crap out of the troopers. I ran around without ammo for the first two fights, lol and that was only on hardcore.

I envy the Soldier class that has Disruptor Ammo with 30% extra ammo buff. It makes the M-11 Supressor part a lot more enjoyable. I restarted it maybe 20 times. I picked up Flare to finally make it. I had Fortification with 40% Dmg Reduc... Imagine. The grenades, the drones, the Snipers... Its just too much man.

Yeah, I blaze through most of the game and dlc's on insanity with little difficulty. The two areas I had to drop difficulty was Omega's boss battle (those fricking creatures were nightmares) and the beginning and end of Citadel. Even with energy drain and sabotage I couldn't survive the initial wave of enemy troops.

Anyone else think it weird to have a half dozen grenades but no medigel? Shouldn't it have been the other way around? "Meeting Joker for sushi...better grab my grenade belt...just in case."

I played through as an Adept on Insanity - it was very challenging, yes, but I didn't find it THAT bad. I had a fairly well-balanced team (me, Garrus, Wrex all the way through) and Flare as my bonus power. There were a few occasions where I ran out of ammo, but there was always plenty lying around. I also died a fair amount - to be honest I'd prefer that, though, to steamrollering everything. Biotic detonations using Singularity/Warp or Sing/Flare seemed to work a treat for me, often followed by Wrex's Carnage power. I would also get behind the guys with the shields while they were engaged in melee with Wrex and then just shoot them to death from their unshielded side. Honestly, I enjoyed the Citadel fights far more than most in the main game. Different strokes I guess :)

Edit: I would also use Flare or something on drones as soon as I saw them. Letting them get close = bad times :( The grenades were a pain in the bum though :/

I agree. Played this one twice. Once on insanity, once on an earlier Hardcore PT. It took me ~4h to beat it on insanity, 2h on Hardcore. The beginning with only that pistol (especially since I was playing as a soldier) was very difficult.

Challenge was there, no doubt. But compared to the rest of the game... Adept you wreck everything and in this DLC, while your whole squad are saying jokes and funny stuff, you're getting killed and can't land a bullet on those overpowered  enemies.

There's a difference between letting your Squadmate kill "everything" for you while you take cover AND trying to get kills without using Shift, and smart cast with 1 to 4 keys and Q, E.

Conclusion: This DLC doesn't allow you to play like in the multilayer. Usage of RPG elements and Shift key are mandatory. It breaks the action and therefore, it's less satisfactory in my opinion.

Once you pick up your team, it's not so bad. But yeah, when you first start by yourself. One bar of health, no medi-gel, and a gun that chews through ammo. As a vanguard, it was nice to have two ways to recharge my barriers. Especially since those damn grenades/drones force you out of cover quite often.

Hah, see the mandatory usage of RPG elements (in my case lots of using the power wheel and going from cover to cover) is probably the thing I liked most  - but then I've never played the MP :)

I'll pick Sentinel. No adrenaline rush or stasis cheat. Will boost HP up and will enjoy a gun-based play style. Bonus Power will be Armor Piercing.
Now that's the way to enjoy the great selection of weapons and not caring about cast times.

Adept no more.
I'm disappointed.

Was it nice ? Actually being allowed to bring heavy weapons to the fight is my dream.

So how did you deal with the other missions that involved a lot of enemies having shields? i.e pretty much every Cerberus mission.

On my Insanity Adept playthrough of Citadel DLC, I found myself clinging to one lifebar for long stretches. The multi-grenades, energy shields and limited "ammo" made for a brutal fight with lots of "start overs"...but, I didn't mind that much - I enjoyed a different enemy than Cerberus or Reaper forces; I hope we see more of CAT6 in ME"4"...along with fighting mercs of all types...but I digress.

Cerberus is so easy man. There's always some Assault Troopers getting in my Singularity and I shoot Warp in it.

Centurion one bullet of a Phalanx Pistol in the head all the shield drops down. They only have slow firing Mattock too.

All Cerberus missions are well designed. My squadies had Overload or Stasis sometimes.

I had Cluster Nades for Atlas and Warp/Shockwave explosions.

....

You're point is ridiculous I mean... you haven't seen the difference between shield level of a Citadel DLC Merc versus a main game Centurion or Nemesis ? Jeez... All that, on top of their snipers that cloaks, shrapnel grenades, and drones and drops your shields 1 shot.

Pointless remark.

It will take time, but I will replay the whole 35 hours again to finally redo Citadel DLC, and make them suffer ;P

Will try to avoid temptation of Particle Rifle or Pirhana. Dx

It does help a bit. But what sucks is the 12 seconds cooldowns, Overload that misses cause enemies are always in cover and in the end, you'll end up spamming Shift key and stop the action every 2 seconds in order to survive.

Pressing Shift wasn't my intention. I played the whole game using 1 to 4 keys and Q,E for squad powers.

I pressed shift when I saw they were casting inapropriate powers.

Go play multiplayer more, you'll know how it's 10 times more exciting to play in real-time but this DLC doesn't allow it for Adepts, cause they lack firepower and shields for the enemys strength.
