Sorry to post about it again, but I seriously can't get over what a difference there was between my two playthroughs. It's really great writing/editing to make the story work on lots of levels.
With my first, the "good" playthrough, it was just so emotional. Going back with Alistair and Wynne, seeing all the places we had fought and fallen, sharing memories of the people, noticing how long ago it felt... I was almost in tears at the sight of Cailan. When we found that Orlais would have come to help us, it seemed so bittersweet. It could have all been so different.
However, the "Bad" playthrough, it was Cousland and his future father in law Loghain, looking to understand each others motives better. And for Cousland, a chance to finally size up Cailan. Finding those documents was the moment Cousland gained the upper hand against the former king, and looking up at his corpse... was a moment of power, not of sadness.I was disgusted, alongside Loghain, that he could treat Ferelden and my characters fiancee with such distain.
...well done, Bioware!
Well done on your quadruple post

The letter from Celene sounds like a ruler who had come to trust Cailan, and considered him a friend.

I find it funny how many people jump on Cailan. In my opinion, if he did have an affair, he's trading up. Thing is, if he WAS having an affair and was going to marry Celene, why didn't he put Anora aside long ago? From what the second letter said, it sounds like Cailan was resisting the idea of divorcing Anora.

Rulers never talk to each other that way. Not even as "friends".
It's clear the imbecile was manipulated into marrying her. To someone who surpasses Anora in decietfulness and political genius. Thank the Make that the blight came and killed Cailan when it did.

Man, my Alistair+Wynne playthrough was EPIC. Just did it.Raoune wrote...

In what could have been a scripted moment, the Risen Ogre, near death, grabbed Alistair - brother of the King it had slain and last of the Theirin line- and looked ready to break him in half... and then BOOM his heterosexual life-partner Cousland did one better than Duncan and came to his rescue, dealing the deathblow.
Seriously, that was worth the price of the DLC alone.
****ing Epic.
And, as I wasn't playing a female character romancing Alistair, I found his and Wynne's little flirt at the end to be freakin' hilarious. And perfectly in character. Zevran would be so jealous.
I liked that aspect to Cosort-Cousland and Loghain going back. We threw Cailan to the wolves to let the country he would have abandoned reclaim him.Raoune wrote..

Then Consort-Cousland donned the armour.
To walk away? Yeah, absolutely. Even if he plotted to kill Cailan, you could argue he was right to do so given the discovery that Cailan and Celene were perhaps planning to wed.KnightofPhoenix wrote...
I think we should all make "Loghain was right" posters now.
Though Celene's age, if she's supposed to be younger than Anora yet was at least 17 when she took power, is a little over the place now. Meh. Whatever. Thedas still has a flexible timeline at the minute I guess. The more I think about this plot development, however, the more I like it. I'll just pretend the Empress referred to in The Calling was the latest Empress-Consort, or something.
I can ascribe Loghain's more "conflicted" feelings towards Cailan in the main game being down to loving the boy he was and the man he could have been, whilst hating the man he became.
Dragonbone Cailan is better than Dragonbone Warden, IMO. It reduces your fatigue by 20%. That's awesome. Way better than 50 stamina points.RPGlover732 wrote...
Why does every one love the loot so
much? calins armor was good, but my warden commanders armor was better,
otehr then the helm and gloves, which were better. and duncans stuff?

In his last cutscene (supposedly dying at Ostagar) you see him staring up at the tower (where you are). Because he already knows the king is dead, and the battle lost, it seems likely that he would have thought the next priority being to keep the PC and Alistair safe (as he likes both of you and Alistair being the next in line for the throne). So when you get to the Tower of Ishaal you see the door just before the stairs to the second level is barricaded. My opinion is that Duncan managed to get off the battlefield and get to the tower, searching for the PC and Alistair. He didn't find you two there as you had just been rescued by Flemeth (who was a "giant bird" and would not have needed to use the stairs, thus dismissing any reason for them to have bumped into each other on the stairs). So when he showed up too late to find you two he realized the battle was lost and the only thing he could do is barricade the door and hope to wait it out.
Just my opinion from gathered information, if you have any other details or something that dismisses theory, PM me. I'd like to get to the bottom of this.

Dude. That is f***ing AWESOME. I would pay to see that, would give a lot to have it play out the same way. You could not ask for a better ending to the battle IMO.

Duncan's Sword and Dagger are the two worthwhile items - the sword is second to Starfang and the Dagger is impressive. Cailin's armor is 4th at best, as best I can tell, behind: Blood Dragon, Juggernaut and Legion not sure how it ranks vs Dilligence and Effort since I've sold those along with Wade's Massive Dragonbone. Maric's sword is no great shakes.
I played with a lvl 21 character and I got the Red steel version of stuff.
