Call it luck, but me and a buddy nailed it in four games. Saved Collector's for last and it was actually the easiest, since the group we had was perfect.

It was actually my first time going into Platinum with randoms. Other than the last game against the Collector's we carried the weight of team, eventually avoiding rez'ing our dead squadmates who found themselves pinned in a corner.

Was really fun though. We need more weekend Challenges that are actually... a Challenge. Hopefully they keep stepping up and putting pressure on us to do these things. Have my Eagle X & Valiant X, now to get that Hurricane up...

5 Tries. Failed once against the geth, all played with randoms with me as AIU. Bloody thing is pretty much immortal.

4 tries and 4 extractions with the team I usually roll with. Also did some extra runs if anyone was missing a faction. Went pretty smooth.

As I've said tons of times over the weekend I'm a PS3 silver player, not gold, not platinum. My gear reflects that. I'm also not a thousand plus hours player. That being said I did the silver matches without a hitch. The first three platinum matches were done in the Rio Box, all I can say is I thank the developers for the Rio Box. If it wasn't for that I would have zero plat matches done.

The worst was Collectors. It took about 12 tries, several maps wiped on wave one or two, got to extraction one time and died, several others went really well till lag or disconnects ruined the matches. I finally was dropped into a wave 9 collector match and completed the challenge. Glad I got to experience plat, not sure if I'll ever want to do it again though.

nope. Tried it like 4 times on Friday and was done with that crap after never being able to get past wave 4. Wasn't going to waste anymore time on that difficulty. Isn't fun and not worth an extra pack. I already have my Valiant X so I didn't need it really.

It took 7 different PUGs. Three of them (twice with collectors, once against Cerberus) were team wipes on the Wave 10 objective. Sh*t happens so I wasn't concerned.

It went about as I expected, and this is for a person than never plays platinum. All pug games.

Cerberus, 1st attempt failed on the last cash wave (hazard map), 2nd attempt succeeded.
Geth, 1st attempt succeeded.
Reapers, 1st attempt succeeded.

Collectors, about 10 matches, never even made it to the extraction wave in the 1st nine, though did cash out about half the time. Finally succeeded, just by the skin of my teeth, two compaions went down in the lzone with 1 second left.

All PUG, no friends.

On Wednesday, I finished the Silver to level up characters and get the first part over with.
Then, just for an introduction, I tried a Juggernaut U/U/P and got my first taste of Platinum.
Two snipers were in locations I never thought accessible and wondered how they kept their ammo supply up (After I died, I got to watch them leave a few times for ammo boxes). Then there was another Geth Infiltrator running around racking up the kills.
I learned that Platinum enemies have a LOT of hit-points and my Valiant X was not enough.
I heard non-English language over the microphone, but recognized their attempts at saying my name.
In the end, we failed the wave 10 objective, and all my credits were un-awarded do to server issues.
Friday, I started with a successful run using a Justicar and I felt I helped the team. I was the lowest score, but there wasn't too much deviation from the points. Pairing up with another Adept helped a lot and I'm not sure who was getting the Biotic Explosions.
So far 1 success, 2 attempts. Reapers accomplished.
I kept running u/u/p looking for Biotics and if none, use Juggernaut. (I never saw another biotic for the rest of the event).
My next PUG ended up in Rio where we were wiped on Wave 1.
My next PUG ended up in Rio where we had some trouble, the host quit which left 2 of us in a game, and we wiped on Wave 1.
My next PUG ended up in Reactor vs Reapers and I started to learn how to Tank with a Juggernaut. Full Extractions. Reapers completed again.
Some members left and others joined and I recall trying 2 more times with the group, but we never made it far, and I started to notice who were weaker links.
End of my typical Weekend operation, 2 success out of 7 attempts. Only Reapers accomplished.
Sunday night, I figured I had 2.5 hours available to try again. I would need 3 victories, but I thought I could do it, small chance, but possible.
Since I knew I needed Collectors, Geth, and Cerberus, I picked Geth first as a "Warm-up".
Ended up in a descent group, and got Full Extraction. The group disbanded so I went looking again.
I chose Collectors next, to get the "Harder" one out of the way. Ended up on Rio with 2 strong players. I learned a few more what to do and what not to do and helped pull the weight in waves 8 and higher. A Possessed abomination at the extraction zone knocked 3 out of 4 players out with 1 second remaining. Collectors accomplished.
After that round one person left, they set the lobby to private and set the enemy to Geth. So I searched for a Cerberus group.
In there was another Juggernaut with a huge N7 and Challenge rating, Lone Wolf Banner, Level 4 equipment. I tried to stick with him and help out as much as I could, but the team was not there. We had no damage output and used too many consumables in Wave 1. So he left. A Vorcha took his place who stayed at the spawn point and got revived 5 times until sync-killed. Though the team was working better together as 3 without the experienced player. After the Vorcha timed out a Krogan took his place and we managed to make it to wave 7.
Team disbanded and I found another one. 3 members focused on DPS and my Tank. They would kill them off from a distance and I kept bosses from getting into 2 different entrances. Pretty quick run, full extraction.
Total Platinum attempts: 5 successes out of 12 attempts.

Jeez, okay, I ended up writing a novel here. Well, if anyone cares, here's the story of a Platinum noob jumping into the fire feet-first.

I'm a Gold player and was definitely intimidated by the jump to Plat, but I got it in 5 or 6 PUGs.

I got really lucky and my very first PUG search dropped me into a lobby with PreGy and (I think) some friends of his. I didn't recognize his GT at the time, but recognized it later on BSN--"hey, I played with that guy!". We did Collectors and Reapers on Hazard Giant and it went very smoothly. Those guys were just wrecking it. I used my Wraith AIU vs. Collectors, then my Harrier TSent vs. Reapers. I bottom-scored both times, but did objectives, used consumables, put up a not-totally-terrible score, and didn't go down too often, so I feel like at least I wasn't a liability.

Also, PreGy sent me a nice GG message after the games, so if you read this, man, thanks for the help and for being a class act.

Later, I had one failed Cerb game with a not-great team where we got screwed on Wave 3 by disable 4 on Rio. We weren't working together well and just couldn't get the mobs off one of the devices in time. (It was the one right out in the damn open at the bottom of the stairs coming down from the center deathtrap room--on the boxes side, not the LZ side.)

Luckily, I squeaked out the next Cerb game on Hazard Giant. I used a PPR TGI for that one, which was a mistake (at least for me) because I had a lot of trouble keeping the beam on Phantoms and Goons when they were in my face (and not getting staggered by the Incendiary ammo effect because f-you that's why). But he was definitely great for two-clipping Atlases. That team was okay, but not great, and it was really close, but we held the line. One guy shame-quit at the end, telling us he felt like he'd played really badly. I don't remember your GT, guy, but if you're reading this, you did fine. We were all just barely keeping our heads above water on that one.

I think there was a failed Geth game in there, too, but then I had a very smooth Geth game on Hazard Giant with my Harrier MQI and a decent (but not super-star) team. In a way, I feel like Geth was the easiest of the Plat factions. Possibly because the further along you get, the fewer Geth you're fighting, and the more of everything else, so the amounts of BS and stunlock actually decrease over the course of the game. By the time Banshees show up, it's like a breath of fresh air.

Lessons learned: I can (somewhat) handle Platinum, but I don't like it all that much. The sense of progression from wave to wave is mostly absent, so there's no pacing or flow, just AAAGHHH!! the whole time. Also, in some ways it's not that much harder than gold (the first few waves of Plat are pretty much like doing Gold waves 8 and 9 multiple times), but then when things go to hell, they go to hell FAST and HARD. It seems much tougher to pull out of a nosedive on Plat, because if you've let it get to that point, you often just can't DPS your way out anymore.

Dat money, though.

Also, I decided that the MQI is much, much better than the TGI, despite the latter having the reputation as a game-breaker. The MQI's weapon damage is lower, but in the same ballpark (Tac Scan debuff instead of Assault Rifles buff from TGI's Cloak, but no Turian passives), but he also has great incredible ludicrous damage output and CC from Arc Grenades and (for me at least) better mobility. He doesn't have Stim Packs, but I'm starting to realize that on higher difficulties, if you're getting hit so much you're using a lot of Stim Packs, you're kind of doing it wrong. Just from having decent-ish shields, TC, and good mobility, he's pretty darn survivable. I even ran him without a Cyclonic, because I knew that the extra damage I'd get from a Power Amp IV would actually be more useful on Plat than the extra shields from the Cyclonic. I knew that rationally, at least, but it was a bit scary going in without protection. If you know what I mean.

(And yes, I always knew he was a great kit, but I just assumed that if I wanted a super-safe tryhard kit to take into Plat, Ghost would be a better option--turns out, I did much better with the MQI.)

...

tl;dr - Plat noob, did it all in PUGs, had a mostly good experience, Plat is hard but doable, MQI will beat you up and take your money.

The main time sink came from trying to find PUGs where the players weren't jacking around.
Lv.8/Lv.13/Lv.7/Lv.14/Lv.17/etc.

The matches themselves were fine.

I have never played Platinum until this challenge... and it wasn´t that bad!

I got the first extraction on my very first try, the others took no more than 2-3 tries. Thankfully I was lucky to play with some very good random players! ^_^ One time I ended first on the scoreboard, second or third most of the times.

Collectors was a ****ing nightmare but we ended beating the challenge just 5 MINUTES before the deadline early today! :o

I read that you needed Tier 2 to get the banner, and thought Tier 2 was platinum. I figured that very few others were going to have the banner so I grabbed a friend, made a lobby, and did the four platinums in one sitting. The first was random difficulty where we ended up against Collectors, and one guy extracted after the rest of us died with four seconds left, but still giving us the challenge.

The team was amazing though. One random was an N7 Fury, went down more than the rest of us, but played very aggresively and topped the scoreboard by a wide margin every time. The Fury definitely made things much easier. He/she joined on our second match.

Krogan Warlord was with us from round 2 of the first match (we started with two people because we're impatient). At first I was semi-annoyed that we were playing with a Warlord on platinum, beause there were so many better choices. But while nowhere nearly as aggresive as the Fury he actually ended up falling into team synergy very well. By the middle of the second match I had a very different opinion of him.

The other three were much easier, never going down before wave 9. Then I wake up today, and find out that Tier 2 is silver or higher and the only thing making me special is an extra commendation. Now i feel bad.

It is easy on nearly all factions but the Collectors are still far too insane. Everything you are just about to kill gets possessed and this has full barries and armor takes more damage. Praetorians once possessed have insance damage output, rough idea for us was a Juggernaut heavy melee'ing to restore shields andwas spec'ed for 4 siege pulses for 40% damage reduction, Hex shield and all powers selected to help shield restoration was having more than 3/4's of its shields wiped out with 3 melee hits from the Possessed Praetorian so from that you are looking at over 2500 damage per hit so on any other character would pretty much mean near insta-death.
But its was a good laugh and big sigh of relief to extract.
All other factions are easy enough if the right squad goes in and can control the enemy easily.

First time in months I trusted ps3 pugs on platinum. Went well actually. Only had to leave 3 lobbies I created because one guy decides not to kick the low-level n7, crappy loadout player in a platinum collector lobby.

Yep. All done on my first try on the first day of the challenge, with randoms, and the one against Cerberus with one friend but the rest were randoms.

Pretty easy challenge.

Did it in two hours on the first day. Teamed up with a friend and two randoms, who were probably the best randoms I've ever played with.

Gold player usually, but this is the first time I've tried sustained play on Platinum. Took 2 days. Used the Geth Juggie on Reaper and Cerberus without problems, but the lack of speed killed me on collectors and the hex shield was no use against being bombarded by Geth Primes. Switched to AIU with Claymore and finally finished it off today (seems they hadn't shut off the time limit).

First time I've ever encountered the 'Box of Shame' on Rio. Now that phrase is stuck in my head...

Got it done in 6 matches (2 missions failed in wave 10).

1 match was with 3 randoms, the other 5 were with a friend and 2 randoms.
