Whelp. Go insane or go home.
Srsly tho. Yeah, mirror match will make you eat your own head. I really got nothing for you, just good luck. Hardcore is really, really tough. Insanity is just cruel. So, so cruel.
I role VG and it's just sort of a role of the dice really.

I got extremely frustrated with this on my insanity play through but got it after a couple hours, I used an infiltrator with Liara and James oddly enough. Used Liara to warp for priming then set it off with flare to drop their shields and follow it up with M11-Surpressor fire using James' incendiary ammo to rip through their armour.
Still extremely difficult but make sure to target vanguards as those things can drop you so quickly other wise keep low to avoid being hit by all of their abilities in quick succession and try to keep high ground at all times, good luck

Well, mirror match gives us the feel of the poor mooks we use to f*** up the in rest of the game.
Getting forced out of hard cover by a grenade and then getting gang raped by Inicerates, Warps and Overloads isn't nice.
I played really dirty, i.e. Garrus and Vega with Typhoons and me mostly hiding behind them.
To bad MP Platinum is just a stupid Boss spam and not a little more like this.

After 30 attempts on insanity, I just gave up and switched to narrative until the last couple of enemies, then went back to insanity to get the trophy/achievement

I found it incredibly easy on Insanity, as long as you have squadmates to draw some fire. I didn't even do anything special either... just a good gun (Harrier or Lancer) + Adrenaline Rush for a Soldier, or a good gun + Incinerate/Energy Drain for my Infiltrator. Pretty disappointing actually. I've only beaten it once on solo though, and don't think I could do it again.
I'm going to attempt it soon on my Sentinel. Gonna try out the M-11 Suppressor, which I have apparently vastly underestimated the past three playthroughs.

Just beat it on insanity my last time around. By far one of the more difficult parts of the game. I was playing as an engineer, with Liara and I think James, and just spammed combos, Incinerate+warp/carnage. Equipped James with a M-99 Sabre, and the M7 Lancer for myself. I'm pretty sure my recharge speed was 200%.
Incinerate, warp, open up with the lancer, incinerate again, carnage, then shoot some more.
Even with a teammate down, I could detonate my own with overload.
Just keep your distance the best you can, and try to keep some cover between you and the enemies.
Took me a few tries, but that method seemed to work.

I got it first try, I think on Hardcore because I was just trying to finish the Arena. Vanguard with Wraith V, Miranda for squad bonuses, with overload for shields and warp for armor, EDI for more overload plus Incinerate for armor. Shocked, warped, and detonated things until they died. So my suggestion is a squad with defense stripping/debuffing/priming and detonating.

The whole clone/mirror thing is insane but fun, it makes you realize how OP you actually are. All I could think about was "so, that's how a Cerberus trooper must feel".
Anyway, my "strategy" was spamming energy drain for stripping shields and damage reduction + plenty of Biotic/Fire explosions for armor. I tried it with all classes (except Vanguard) and worked out just fine on Insanity. A lot of swearing was involved.

Definitely. When I fought the clone on the Normandy, it was surprising to see what it was like on the receiving end, but it was also surprising to see how quick Shepard's animation really is, like suddenly diving behind cover faster than the other mooks do, or doing a combat roll to avoid fire and suddenly returning a volley of incendiary or machine gun fire, or when the vanguard dives in close and either nova blasts or strikes with a heavy melee all of a sudden.

Besides, I still wonder why Femshep clones are voiced by Cerberus troopers in the Armax Arena.

Compared to gold or platinum solo in Multiplayer, Mirror Match is easy. I have used the Suppressor with Infiltrator Shepard with Garrus and Javik as my teammates on insanity.

Switch on all modificators(no ammo, no medigel, no nothing) and play solo if it is too easy

Well, he did say in comparison to gold or platinum solo. Both of those things are pretty ridiculous, though Platinum is just flat out goofy with its silly enemy mix and match. But yeah, with all modifiers on insanity? I'm sure my controller would lose its charge from full before I successfully beat that.
