Paragon!Shepard (and, really, just Shepard) is a messianic figure done badly.Heretic_Hanar wrote...
Other characters that fit one or more of the Mary Sue sub-categories are:
Liara (Relationship Sue)
Miranda (Sympathetic Sue)
Tali (Purity Sue)
Jack (Jerk Sue)
Paragon Shepard also comes pretty damn close to being a Mary Sue or Marty Tzu.
I mean, it's expected, given the medium is an RPG, but still.

I'm not going to say whether or not the males got "attractified" I'm not attracted to males myself, so I can't really comment. The only thing I know was that Thane, Jacob, and Kaiden were created with ladytypes in mind. Whether they were successful or not is up to debate but they've stated the intention was there.
i'd say they did
the problem lies with every over male character in the series

thanks for that, I'm not really in circles that use these terms. But this is exactly what I thought when I saw Thane. It felt like the doodles of some 14 year old's notebook.

Basically says things like "sexy" and "sex appeal" when desgining or redesigning characters. It's the same issue with the comic book industry. It's okay when a female character is sexy, the problem is when it becomes the norm and every character is designed with that in mind first and foremost.MegaSovereign wrote...

No kidding.
I am going to lock this down, but I think I'll need to go get a fortifying cup of tea before I start handing out bans.
EDIT: As the original topic may have some merit, I MAY re-open this once I review the conversation. Some of you will likely be removed from the forum before then....

1) Posters stay on topic-- keep it about the game or the themes represented (or missing) from the game
2) Dialogue is respectful
3) No memes or off-topic images. Several have been warned and even a few banned because of this.
4) Anyone causing trouble should be reported to me via PM.
Carry on, and thank you to those who were behaving properly. I appreciate your patience.

Anyway, there's nothing wrong with a story being full of attractive characters.

No there isn't. It's when that becomes the primary focus of their design first. Especially, like with the Ashley example, doesn't make sense for the character. You get the sense that the designer says to themselves "well it's a woman so big boobs and a skinny waist." The end result is eye-rolling at best.David7204 wrote...

That's a further distinction I want to make: you can make a character's physical appearance be a focus if that is an important part of their character background or story arc. For example, people may have a problem with Miranda's suit, but I don't. I find the question of how she values her genetics, how she manifests her self-worth, whether she's really valuing herself or only her value to others, etc, to be a main focus of her character.
Ashley's entire story arc revolves around her allegiance to the Alliance, her distrust of anything not-Alliance (the Council races and even the fellow human group Cerberus) and eventually, in ME3, deciding where her loyalty ultimately lies (with Shepard). None of that deals with physical appearance, at least not directly.

Good sir, just stay away from this. Females being attractive are bad, especially in Mass Effect.
I mean it's not like Tomb Raider- easily the best game of 2013, stars and amazing female lead. Who is so hot and sexy. But also incredibly intelligent, resourceful and cool.
But again it's a bad thing. So..... Just stay out of it.
To mods- I appologize for my behavior on this thread as it was counter-productive and obnoxious.

If you're going to continue to be obnoxious by sarcastically dismissing opinions you disagree with by attributing to arguments no one actually made can I ask you to leave the thread before you get it closed again?

Given the enormous amount of affection for the characters, it doesn't look like very many people agree with you at all. Plenty of people seem to think that characters are indeed attractive, regardless of who they're alongside.
I felt they really pushed the boundries in ME3 to an uncomfortable degree. I think people liked the characters because of their writing, not because they were really sexually attracted to them. I'm not saying Liara would be liked to the same degree if she was 300 pounds but that increasing her bust size in not necessary and actually turns people away.
