Not to get too theoretical here but there's something called the male gaze. When something is on screen because it assumes that the viewer is male and thus is made for them. whereas Ashley existed to be a tough, pro-alliance, soldier, now she simply exists for David, here to appreciate her body.This is also forgetting any women players who it really does nothing for.

I suspect this is a reason why female gendered species took so long to implement because krogan or turian females couldn't be appreciated by folk like David unless they fit into his idea of attractiveness
