The male version is the default version of pretty much everything, with a few exceptions like nurse or secretary. Nothing at all new in Mass Effect.

I don't really think it's sexist.

It wasn't a problem with disk space, it's a problem with creating the character models. Also, it might be simply difficult to portray certain races like volus and elcor as female.

you don't think it's sexist

This is what to comes to, huh?

Dversion, you've got a half-decent point backed up by a crap argument. I still have really not seen anything beyond 'treating men and women differently is bad because it's bad, unless you're dealing with romance in which case it's A-OK.'

Unfortunately for that post, the definition of 'sexist' hasn't remained steady throughout this thread. I made a small edit.

I understand this fact. I think it just shows the writer's bias when they only do males for every race out there. Now that they have most races covered I would hope they would concentrate on filling in the blanks. And if they don't have time to do that then at least not make males the default for every single race we run into.

Asari are female-only. In ME1, the only Quarian we see is female. They didn't default everyone.

The Asari are clearly a race made by men for men (if you read the art book talking about them it's clear to see.) which doesn't really help all that much for their universe. It sort of feels pandering but most are well written and their beleifs and society is well codex'd so it deflates the issue a bit.

How about we get a full male race in the next ME  game? In another galaxy. What do you think?

Well, the drell were specifically created to be love interests for femShep.

As for the oversexualization of the asari...yes, we see some asari dancers (in places where you'd expect them...like Choras Den or Aria's club). But 95% of the asari in the series are quite modestly dressed. Apart from the strippers, Benezia and Samara, most of them don't even show cleavage...and even the strippers are conservatively dressed (by stripper standards ^_^). Liara is also one of the few female characters to wear real armor!

and all three (how many asari are there in that ****ing game again?) were killed off brutally :wizard:

If they ever introduced female Voluses, their enviro-suits would have visible breast-bumps. You know it's true.

That's interesting. Because the very first line in the Wikipedia entry defines sexism as "prejudice or discrimination based on a person's sex."

And it sounds to me that having romantic relationships exclusively with females, for example, is absolutely discriminating based on a person's sex.

So you're impying that the idea of sexuality is inherently wrong then?

Oh no, not me. You are. If sexuality is inherent based on discrimination, and discrimination is inherently wrong, then sexuality must be inherently wrong. Right?

And if not, then where's the disconnect?

Where's the disconnect?

Me arguing that sexuality is inherently based on prejudice and discrimination.

I'm not. It isn't.

Yeah well continue arguing against a point I, nor anyone actually made.

Oh god, it is isn't it... I mean considering it doesn't even really make sense for the human female armor to have curved breasts on them.

I don't really think it's harmfully sexist.

This is ridiculous. You do not get to say that sexual preference is just sexual preference and nothing else, with no other reasons or implications, and then say male default language is ultra horrible awful sexism. And that is exactly what I'm seeing here, over and over. Everything smiling and nodding that male default language is sexist, so it just must be the worst thing ever. Everyone completely dismissing the obvious fact that sexual preference includes the same thing - treating a person differently based on their sex. Nobody bothering to the connect the dots - that simply treating people differently based on their sex cannot be the core problem, else it would be a problem for both situations.

Yes, that is exactly what people are arguing. There has not been a single argument in this entire thread that explains, WHY, exactly, male default language is so bad other than 'it's sexist.' Or 'it's discrimination.'

If the idea that male default language is bad isn't based on that, then what exactly is it based on? Why is it bad? Do you have anything to say that isn't a variation of 'it's sexist, so it's bad'?

This is all assuming 'sexism' does not mean treating men or women worse. Just differently.

Alright I'm going to assume you never actually read any of my responses and just assumed what I was argueing.

So, for like the fifth god damn time:
It makes the universe of Mass Effect feel weaker, incomplete and a bit dull when the majority of the people you're dealing with are from one gender.

This is the last time I'm going to write this for you.
