So, the DLC got me thinking about ME4...

Right, I know all about that theory that "the breathing Shepard is the Clooooone," but that is not what this thread is about.

In the end of ME2, we were given Arrival and Shadow Broker, DLCs that indicated things to come in ME3.

My Shepard, being mostly paragon, spared her clone, or tried to.  From what I understand, killing the clone ends similarly--the clone ends up falling from a great height and presumably dying.

But, as with adventure/superhero/etc. films, if you don't see the actual death, then the villain/hero/etc. may very well not have died.

• We know that in ME4, most of us have wanted a sequel, not a prequel or side-story.  Frankly I'd like to be Shepard again in a parallel universe, but it isn't going to be about Shepard so we can scrap that idea right off the bat.
• We know Shepard is not going to be the focus.
• We have heard we probably won't be playing a space marine.

If Bioware is hinting at ME4 in the final singleplayer DLC, then might we be playing the Shepard Clone in the immediate aftermath of ME3?

Drawbacks:
• Not much distance from the original story, if the clone is still alive.
• If Shepard lived in your ME3 endgame, things might get complicated, there may need to be a cameo.
• Squadmates can still be involved in the plot, or join your squad, but that may mean wrecking your Shepard's romantic relationship with Shepard-Clone.  Not a huge issue unless you're of the sort who expects eternal loyalty even post-mortem, or your Shepard is still alive.
• You're not Shepard, but, well, you're also Not-Shepard.
• Obviously, your background story possibilities are remarkably limited.

Some Positives:
• Clone-Shepard is not Shepard, but can serve as an excuse to port in prior games, thus your galaxy is persistent.
• Your Clone-Shepard would lean paragon or renegade based on how your Shepard treated him/her in the Citadel DLC.
• You get to build yourself from the ground up--you're not Shepard, you clearly can't take Shepard's place now.  Obviously you don't have a big reputation of being Ruthless, a War Hero, or a Sole Survivor to live up to.  Whatever reputation you'll get from here on out is one you've earned, whether you're interested in becoming a Spectre, Council Member, or convincing everyone that Shepard LIVES.

I'm not really sure if I personally like the idea or not.  The idea of having the same squad again might be interesting, but unless you were playing the Clone as wanting redemption, why would the old squad have any desire at all to help you?  The Clone attempted to kill Commander Shepard, after all.  It's more likely you'd find the squad to be your enemies, no matter how great a person you became...

Anyway, it's just idle speculation.  I doubt Citadel is hinting at anything, really.  Some have said it hints toward the First Contact Wars, but the history vault has a lot more events in it than that one.  And while it's possible, I am not particularly convinced the clone will have a huge role in ME4, either.  It's all up in the air now, but sometimes I like to guess at things.  (Personally, however, I'm not likely to buy a game set before ME3 or even during.  I'd rather see what becomes of the ME-verse.)
