It was a writing failure. They hadn't set up the solution way back in the first game. They needed to at least hint at it. That being the case it was going to be very hard to satisfy the players.

Not to mention have a coherent idea of what the Reapers' motivations were going to be. Unless they weren't going to ever reveal anything, which I don't think Bio ever considered; just as well for me,since I would have hated getting no answer even more than getting what we did get.

I could easily have done with no answer.  Fine their thoughts are so lofty we can't comprehend them.  I can comprehend they want to kill us, and I need to stop them.

But a bad answer is worse than no answer.  It pulls back the curtain and shows us the Great and Powerful Oz is nothing more than a humbug.

That's what everyone was so upset over?  Because it was "sad"?  Really?

So glad you enjoyed the endings.  Everyone has different tastes.  I did not enjoy the endings and the revised versions--or rather, the expanded versions as nothing changed--did little to remedy them.  The issue was not that they were "sad" but that they rendered my choices and my vision for Shepard and the verse I was building completely moot.

It did not help that the major decisions in ME2 kind of didn't matter.  The same plot structure and events occur whether you blew up the base or not.

LOL, the OP thinks people hate the ending because it was sad? Try harder next time.

Nope.

Not because it was sad. Because it was bad.

The endings are to bad and to sad.

Bad for not making any sense. And yes, all endings are to sad. Look at Dragon Age Origins, it had a happy ending and a sad one, and thats the way it should be.

I've spent several hundred hours gameplay and making tough choices, and for what? A crap ending without a happy option. Without a happy ending I can't enjoy other and sad endings. A game should have something for all. Happy ending, sad ending, bittersweet ending and a miserable ending (refuse).

I agree with you, a game should have something for all in the endings, especially when throughout the whole game there's something for all in the choices you make.  You can spend 100 hours doing everything right throughout the trilogy, and for what?  A 10 minute ending where Shep dies anyways?  That just doesn't sit well with me.  I mean yes MEHEM was made to rectify it, but Bioware should have realized it themselves.

They had the chance to make a happy ending, in that it only happens if you get a perfect EMS score.  If they had done that, you can bet more people would have played through ME3 and all the fetch quests just to get that perfect happy ending.  With that option they could have even left the EC endings intact for those who didn't get perfect EMS scores.
