Canonizing Shepard would kill this franchise for me. Make no mistake, that is the only realistic way for what you describe to happen.Fenrir__ wrote...
EA cant afford to let ME flop and there are msny ways of continuing Sheppards story partly just not in the forefront. It is possible that after this game if they cannonize the destroy ending that Sheppard is humanities councilor and the new PC meets Sheppard and some of the old guard as they take part in a new adventure, Sheppard could almost take on the role Anderson had.

Don't worry he'll be back after Shepless ME4 flops.
It's frankly absurd, who kills of their main character in a successful series?
Shepard IS the face of Mass Effect.
I'm pretty sure a lot of people will buy it just because there's "Mass Effect" in it

Again, I don't want to see Shepard and Co. suddenly return from the dead to hang out with my new PC. And I don't want to see Shepard suddenly rise from the grave when we all know that story is over... I know the game isn't realistic overall in the first place, but, again, it's time to let go and move forward.

I appreciate that Bioware wants us to let go of Sheppard but it's hard because they did such a great job of creating him. In many ways Sheppard is like Superman, Batman, Master Chief, Mario
Hell almost 50 years later Luke Skywalker has a son and is kicking ass across the Galaxy and there are some stories following his family.
Sheppard is larger than life and I can play a Mass Effect story without him however he matter, his descendants should matter, the descandents of his crew should matter. This is where it becomes hard to completely let go.
I think Bioware should go the Star Wars route with this, there are plenty of room for side stories, new characters but Sheppard is Mass Effect and 3 games is not necessarily enough time to let him go.
I would love to see a Mass Effect 4 with Sheppard as a background character. Maybe you play an Asari with a famous mother and your last name is Sheppard, trying to live up to your Parent would beone hell of a Story!
Would be even fantastic to have a point in the game where you get to play as the old squad to save your kid and show them just how badass you were!
I think we all just need sheppard to matter a bit more than they did by the end of ME4 the bulk of the story may be done but the characters deserves just a bit more!
I saw people talking about Trek and I think that TNG is a great example of how to continue but the old guard were respected, We even got that Fantastic movie Star Trek 6 to send them off which influenced a large aspect of the following series. Also don;t forget Deforest Kelley Dr McCoy passed the torch in the first episode
Measuring Sheppard's impact will be hard in any ending especially continuing with Synthesis beyond ME3. I hope we see more of our favorites and perhaps a passing of the torch!
Shepard can't have made that much of an impression on you if you consistently gush about this "Sheppard" person... Sorry if that makes me a douche but I mean come on, that's like someone claiming "I'm the biggest fan of Star Track out there." I just feel like getting the name right is sort of important to professing one's fandom.

I just don't see how they could make a sequel without Cannonizing Shepard. I just have no idea how you can move forward with the synthesis ending the whole idea of explaining that just boggles my mind. With the Control ending you have a giant Deux Ex Machina in that whatever goes wrong a Shepard controlled reaper can just show up and tell everyone to play nice. I am not sure how well any prequels will be received, could probably have a few one shot prequels but another massive epic triology just doesn't seem possible. Who knows maybe a ME 3 Director's cut really fixing the ending one day if they want to continue past Shepard with a non canonized ending we can only hope maybe.......

For me, Shepard is more than a character but an extension of myself. The characters who I indirectly interact with seem more real than just a bundle of polygons. That and his arguably inconclusive character arc is why he's difficult for me to let go of (without sounding overly sentimental). I assume many feel similarly.
Yes. This. All of it.

Alot of people might...but not as many as if it still had Shepard in it...case in point Halo the ones without Master Chief in them sold considerably less.

Are you pushing this because you want Shep back, of because you're afraid that EA will force Bio to bring him back?

I think EA will force them to bring him back, and I would be ok with that, maybe even prefer it but i'll be fine with anything as long as it's awesome.
I know I am vocal about the ending to ME3 sucking but i'd love to see Bioware return to form and I certainly would not want to see them demolished by EA because the next ME game does not sell well.
Shepard is the face of ME to the masses, most of us (i.e the fans) would be ok with a change...I have serious doubts that the masses would and for the most part history has proven this.
