Kaidan and Sheploo: Reasons

My Renegade Shep is gay
He and Kaidan are hot together
Kaidan is more calm and sensitive which balances Shep's more aggressive attitude.
In ME1 I enjoyed talking to Kaidan far more than the so called LIs. I loved hearing more about Jump Zero and he had more insight into working with the Turians after the bad blood between them and humans. How he became a biotic was interesting as well. He just had the better story that endured me to him more. I also like bringing him with me everywhere as he always had something to say against my renegade actions. He wasn't some cheerleader ready to champion everything I do.

In ME2, this is when I began to truly root for him and Shep because what man tells another man he would have followed him anywhere? Anyway, Kaidan was relieved to see Shep but also rightfully apprehensive about his connections to Cerberus. Shep also didn't like working for cerberus but felt it was neccessary as the alliance wasn't doing anything about the collector attacks on the colonies. I loved the conflicting emotions, the conflict between the two, and Shepard's reaction to seeing Kaidan again. "It's a reminder of how I lost more than just two years" pretty much sums up that encounter for me. But I respected Kaidan more than any past squad member because he did not follow Shep blindly.

In ME3, Kaidan is the only LI(not counting Ash for me cause she's dead) to challenge Shep and what Cerberus could have done to him. He's not some butt kissing flunky he's an allanice soldier and a damn good one and with the Citadel DLC, was he wrong to question Shepard? Heck no. Even when he wasn't in the game I couldn't help but think back to my confrontation with him when Miranda informs Shep that she could have planted a chip in his brain. It made me smile because out of all the friends and potential LI, Kaidan would have been the one to tell the difference or at least ask the hard questions.
My Renegade was falling in love.

Kaidan also had his own journey concerning Cerberus. Him questioning Shep about the scientist we saved to his words of encouragment during the raid on TIM base while watching the vids on Shep's reconstruction. I don't know how the other LIs respond but for me it makes more sense for the VS to encourage Shep than anyone here cause it shows a final acceptance from them that Shepard is the same as he has always been. "You're real enough for me."

On top of that. Kaidan is an accomplished soldier leading his own biotic unit, he worked his way up to Major, and became the second human spectre. He could have taken a job with Hackett but wanted to be near Shepard. How could I resist? I also find Kaidan and MaleShepard's relationship to be the most tragic as neither confesses romantic feelings until a full scale reaper invasion. They choose to say screw it to military protocol and have a moment of happiness. In ME3 my Shep did what he had to do to protect his friends and the love of his life. Now he gets to enjoy the aftermath of the destruction of the reapers and live peacefully in Anderson's apt with Kaidan.

He also has the hottest **** out of all the LIs. That's right, Kaidan's biotic booty even beats out Miranda's. lol!

Side note:  I did have a man **** Shep playthrough where he banged everything that wasn't nailed down: Liara in ME1, Jack(Renegade bang), Kelly (Yes I count the late night "dinner"),Miranda (before SM), Tali(After SM), Diana Allers (), flirted with Cortez on the dance floor before breaking his heart, then settling down with Kaidan Alenko.

Because Miranda wasn't there and it's not good for Tali's health.

I picked Kaidan. I thought he was more like me: someone that stands for what is right and is by the book kinda person. He stands for the good of the galaxy and for internal peace, and is reserved. He uses his words cautiously and almost all of them have meaning. He's also very open-minded. He's views from BAaT from Vyrnus and Rahna really planted the idea that aliens and humans are all the same people in the end. Also, he seems like a bro and someone that you can lean on, while not being emotional baggage. The fact that he's handsome is just a plus. Even if he was poorly designed, I feel like my Sheploo would have went for him anyways.

I actually went with Jack on my first playthrough. When I first saw her I was left shocked. I was sure that Jack would be a man and was reluctant to add him to the team as his story seemed a bit cliche. Then I saw her and was surprised that it was so unexpected. I started talking to her and as time went on I gradually warmed up to her.

I felt she was the only female character that doesn't worship Shepard. It felt to me like it was a much healthier relationship. Unlike Liara's, Miranda's and Tali's, Jack's seems to benefit the most by keeping him in check. I just love how Jack calls Paragon Shepard on his boy scout ways and calls him a ****. I felt like I had finally met someone who sees the man for what he is and not for the legend. Even in ME3, when you first meet her she goes and punches you square on the jab. My Shepard wanted someone equal to him, not some fanatic worshiper like Liara.

I also loved how Jack acted all tough yet was easily the most vulnerable character in the whole ME universe. I was fascinated by her character and every time I wanted to know more of her only to have to do another mission before unlocking a new dialogue. I loved how her voice and eyes were filled with emotions when she talked. At first, I thought she was a monster when she talked about her crimes yet with each passing dialogue I started peeling the layers she formed around her and understood that she was also a victim. When she started talking about Murtock, she started by hiding her emotions, calling him an idiot yet the more she talks, the more you can see how deeply it affected her, going as far as to take a pause to regain her composure when she said he loved her. Then you could work toward the romance and say you would stay with her, she would then genuinely sound scared even going as far as backing down in a corner as if to protect herself.

In my headcanon, the Jack romance saved both Shepard and Jack. Jack needed Shepard to finally let go of her past and move on whereas Shepard needed Jack to keep him in check and make him loosen up. They bonded over their hatred of Cerberus and Shepard would confide into Jack over the fact that he was doubting if he was the real Shepard. I also loved how her romance scene didn't involve any sex but instead he would just make sure she felt at ease. The romance scene from the Citadel DLC is awesome. The way Jack tells Shepard that nobody mattered enough to get a tattoo from her or how she starts to panic over him possibly dying which can then be stopped with a paragon interrupt where they just hug. It felt to me as this romance was less about the physical aspect and more about the emotional aspect which is what a true romance should be about.

I just wished Jack would have been a playable character in ME3 as she was the part I loved the most about ME2. She's also the reason I chose Destroy as I couldn't create another Murtock scenario.

I romanced Liara, but after seeing that Tango on Youtube, I'm giving Garrus a shot on the next run. Damn it! I feel like I'll be cheating!

I'm a roleplayer. I've played through the trilogy enough times to romance every one of the squadmates and each of those Shepards has had their own motivations and back story. When it came time to "pick" a romance, I ended up with one that felt natural for that particular Shepard.

As I look back at each playthough, I can think of only two of them that could have ended up differently than they did: my stone-cold beyotch of a Soldier was a lesbian that I wish Jack could have accepted (settled for staying faithful to Liara), and my original Infiltrator who romanced Ashley, then switched to Tali and stuck with her (could've gone either way in ME3).

Depends which character I'm playing. They all have different personalities, interests etc.

But if I had to choose just one, I would go with Liara. She's a wonderful, and incredible
companion. My partner for life.

Until I played ME2, Ashley was my canon romance because she was by far the most interesting character in the game so far IMO. After I played LotSB, it was Liara all the way because she became much stronger without losing her "cute" aspects. Alternate romances would be Miranda or Ashley again, and Garrus for Femshep. I am not interested in any other LIs.

Because making out, when an Atlas is exploding in the background is super romantic.
Because making out, when you just took over the greatest Information Network in the galaxy is super romantic.

I don't think I have a real reason. I just picked the once I enjoyed the most. ^^

Ashley.
I liked her story in ME1. Her stories about her sisters and family were great.
Just rolled with it in ME2 and 3.
A bit disappointed that there wasn't much involvement in ME3, but the scene with her sister at the memorial was pretty good.

In Mass Effect? I just go with who I like best. It is actually not very hard at all to decide who that is. In the first game, it's Liara, hands down, regardless of gender. Ashley is alternately boring and aggravating. Kaidan is a ball of horrible neuroses. Liara's a weird alien who's seventy-some years older than me, sure, but she's relatable.

In the second game there are more options, but it's still not much of a decision. Although I like Tali, it really never occurred to me to think of her and Shepard as potential sexual partners. (She's more like a younger cousin, I dunno. Plus, as a general rule, alien species shouldn't even be able to physically have sex, much less reproduce the way Asari do, which should put a damper on the potential of the relationship to blossom later on. Plus, Tali is immunosuppressed, and Shepard is coated in germs; bad mix.) Jacob is as boring as watching paint dry. Garrus isn't boyfriend material. Jack will murder you in your sleep one day. Liara...well, aside from getting kind of cracked in Shepard's absense, she's gone from the main game. Miranda (or should I say Yvonne?) is quite attractive, but she's aso an interesting character whose backstory is interesting to explore. And Yeoman Chambers feeds my fish - let's face it, somebody had to do it.

In the third game...still not much of a choice. Allers is an annoying person with an ugly character design. (I dunno who decided that it looks enough like Jessica Chobot to "do the job," but they should have thought again.) Garrus is still not boyfriend material. EDI's taken. Jack is a war asset, and she'd probably still murder me in my sleep. The engineer who replaced Yeoman Chambers is kind of cute and fun to get to know. Liara's a pleasant mix of her early bookish personality with her more recent crazed vigilante incarnation. I guess Cortez exists. Personally I never felt an especial need to speak with him.

I know we all like saying who our LIs are, but what made you decide who you'd pair your Shepard with? Were they the most attractive to you? Was it more of a role playing decision? Does the LI fit your Shepard's story/sensibilities/headcanon?

That was a pretty easy choice for me actually. I heard Carth's voice just once and instantly went 'I hope he is a romancable character'. That was the end of the story. Well kind of, I also felt he fit with my Shepard very well and not being in to girls Liara wasn't really much of an option. I didn't much like any of the ME2 romances, or maybe I was just still feeling too loyal to Kaidan while I was playing my Femshep. Either way she stayed 'single' through that one untill meeting up with Kaidan again in #3. I wasn't dissapointed either.

We now know that Liara plays one song on the piano...
Well, I guess that is another good reason! I needed to beat someone at pianoing! I play more songs than her... Though, she beats me at being able to play a combination of notes that should require two hands... and she did it in one...

Although Miranda and Liara have very different personalities, there are also a lot of similarities between the two characters.

With the exception of Mordin both are the most intelligent of your squadmates, both are scientists, by the end of ME2 both are strong women and peers of Shepard and not just subordinates, and of your squadmates both play the largest roles in the defeat of the Reapers after Shepard. Oh, and both are also smoking hot. Posted Image

...and both can't bake :D

My canon playthrough has Ashley in ME1 and Miranda in ME2 & 3...

When I first played ME1 I was put in the situation of having to decide between Ash and Liara. I ultimately went with Ash because up to that point I felt Ash and Shep had been through more together, and her roughneck personality fit well with Shep. I would compare them to say Rico and Dizzy from Starship Troopers, which leads me to kind of why I romanced Miri in ME2.

ME2 had this bleakness about it. The situation places you in a predicament where you almost feel alone and alienated. All the familiarity that was ME1 with your squad is gone save for a few, including my LI Ash. In fact when I needed her support the most, she busted my chops and left me on Horizon. Up to that point Miranda and I had already been developing a sense of comraderie, but that was the tipping point. Miranda was there by my side when **** hit the fan with the Collectors, she brought me back, and basically Ash was a second thought after that.

Sooooo, there you have it. The situation and circumstances dictated why I felt Miri was for my Shep. Aside from her character development of starting out as a stone-cold ****, and developing into someone who shows compassion after she lets her guard down, it was decided then that Miri and Shep would take on the galaxy together... You know, until she got sidelined in ME3 :-P

Tali. Love her personality, a bit nerdy, funny and have a sweet voice, she doesn't feel superficial. Very attractive and sure... her body looks good too... but that's acutally secondary. Her character development is also great through the trilogy.

If there's some "Taliesque" girls out there, I would definitely ask for a date :)

I have to say I've only had romance with Kaidan, and I'm always faithful to him in ME2, I really like his character, love his personality: honorable, friendly, kind, sweet, romantic.....those eyes and that voice hypnotized me, It's adorable:wub:..

He is very similar to my paragon Shepard, they suffered a lot when they were young (Colonist background) and fight for the good of the galaxy helping people. I was very sad when he didn't trust me in ME2 but I understand his anger after everything seen in ME1 about Cerberus and he thought Shepard was dead two years ago, his apologies from email were sincere, that's enough for me (even in ME3, Kaidan says he regrets about not helping Shepard against the human reaper in the Collector Base).

About the other LIs for me, I see Garrus and Thane (Who is Jacob?! :D) more like brothers or best friends, but who knows maybe someday I will give it a try,  in any case, my canon LI will be Kaidan always :).
