My BroShep chose Ashley in ME1. After she refused to trust him in ME2 he moved on to Miranda. I chose Ash originally because she was a strong character. Miranda likewise, but a bit damaged (I'm a sucker for female WIP)

My FemShep playthrough went Liara all the way from ME1. I guess because she seemed naive and innocent at first. I thought she grew quite well as a character through the series.

My fave LIs are Tali, Liara and Jack.

Tali being my #1.

I mean DAT VOICE. And I think she's adorable, the way she's so nervous and shy going into the romance with Shepard in ME2 sold me on her completely. She's also always there for Shep, joining you in ME2 even with the Quarians having a deep prejudice against Cerberus. I dunno, there's a lot of things to like about Tali.

Fraternizing with your crew is far from the caliber of professional soldier the Alliance demands. As commanding officer, it is our duty to set an example for the rest of the crew.

I chose Ash, then Miri, then Liara. Just felt like a natural progression of things.

I did also did a non cheating Liara PT once. Just to see what it would be like to stay faithful for all 3 games.

My favourite LI remains Liara. Her personality I found to be very appealing.

Garrus. He's not alliance, so it feels a little less "Hai, let's make this super uncomfortable". And he's hilarious, and more to the point, crabby enough for my Mark 1 Canon Shepard.

But between all my Shepards, I've seen a lot of the romances. *flips hat back*

I say to heck with that. If Shepard is going to be condemned to years of suffering and immesurable pressure to fix a problem that others could could have mitigated years ago (I'm looking at you, asari), she deserves a little bit of leeway when it comes to falling in love.

I chose my LI because I was in the middle of a damn war and didn't have time to break regulations by fraternizing with my crew.

... then I wound up waking up next to Javik, which made my decision feel all the more RIGHT.

You, sir or ma'am, are my new hero.

I'm not sure what you're saying here.

I meant over multiple playthroughs anyway, not 1. There's lotsa good romance content and writing that's worth exploring.

Ashley because I felt her character with her realistic and somewhat cynical outlook was the perfect balance for my Paragon Shepard.

Unlike all other LIs available for maleShep, Miranda is, in her own way, as larger-than-life as Shepard is, and that's why she's a natural fit, a perfect companion for him.

You know, I'd say that Liara qualifies for this just as easily... of course, I vastly prefer Liara with Femshep, so perhaps this works out in a roundabout way.

Anyway, Liara. Of course, she was the only one available in ME1, but I could never leave her thereafter and still prefer her: she's brilliant, compassionate, humorous enough, my equal (at least) in every way that matters, and I confess that the mindsex is rather attractive too.

Fraternizing with your crew is
far from the caliber of professional soldier the Alliance demands. As
commanding officer, it is our duty to set an example for the rest of the
crew.

I can't speak for anyone else, but strictly speaking, Liara isn't actually part of the main crew in any of the three games.

Because I wanted him since Mass Effect 1, and Bioware made it possible in Mass Effect 2.

Turian or not, I think I would go for any species if it came with Garrus's voice & personality.

I remember when I first talked to Adams in the Normandy SR1 engine room, and he was gushing about how knowledgeable Tali was about engines and starships... and then talking to her, and hear her geek out about the Normandy... I just can't resist a girl with an eye for technology. Image IPB The voice helped a lot too.

At that point, I decided: I'm going to pick her as LI (I'd already heard the game had multiple romance choices). And then I found out she wasn't an option, so I picked Liara because she was nice too and I did want to see the romance content. Image IPB

Enter ME2: Tali was back, even cuter, and this time, romanceable. I did feel bad about dumping Liara, so I later did a FemShep playthrough that stayed loyal to her. I've done other playthroughs with different LIs as well.

While Tali is my favourite character and my "canon" LI, I can't say that I'm wholly satisfied with how her romance was handled. My main complaint is in ME2, where as soon as you "lock in" the romance every conversation with Tali is about sex and whether or not it's possible. Why wasn't there an option for Shepard to say "don't worry about it, even if we could never touch I still care about you"? Image IPB

She had something my Shepard had never had - trust, faith, innocence and naivity. Shepard on the other hand was the rough, ruthless fighter who had looked at the depths of darkness and now the darkness looked back from her eyes. She was always on move, ready to fight at any given time, unwilling to trust anyone who hadn't proven their worth. In my story Liara saw softness behind those darkened eyes and with her Shepard too found the softness in herself. Eventhough Liara became harder and more colder as the story progressed, she still kept much of that softer side. And with her Shepard's soft side emerged aswell.

Kaidan cause he was a nice, caring, good looking guy with a to die for voice and cause Vega wasn't in ME1.. and wasn't an option in ME3, then later I thought: Who needs a LI or man for that matter, better to go solo or single since I'm not a lesbo! Haha. Okay, I'm lying.. That's only what my latest character did, she is the wisest of them all..

Liara is perfect for my "paragade" shepard, especially after she gets a harder edge in ME2. Both are open to a larger worldview and aren't inherently prejudiced against anyone, but are willing to crush anyone foolish enough to get in the way when they need to get things done.

Garrus is a bro. He's stood by Shepard for THREE GAMES without ever questioning her or her decisions, without ever pulling his gun on her (Save for that mission with Sidonis) and without ever doubting what she's capable of. He trusts her, completely, as she does him.

He's her best friend, her partner and her lover. That's what's important to her, important to me.

He also has the most satisfying romance in the game save for Liara.

I have to main LIs: Kaidan and Garrus.

I'll admit I first chose Kaidan way back when because he was the only male my Femshep could romance in ME1. And all through the game I really thought I had made the right decision because he was just so adorable and cute. Then Horizon happened... And it resulted in my Femshep cheating on him with Thane.

In spite of that though, I decided that she would forgive and forget but man... Kaidan really gave her a ride for her money in ME3. Still, I stuck with him till the end and I don't regret it even though he drove me nuts on a few occasions. Somehow though, he always manages to do something that tugs at my heart and makes me love him again. I really have a Love-Hate relationship with that guy. Never had that before with any fictional character and it's... strange.

Now I'm going through an ME2 playthrough where Garrus is about to become my other Femshep's lover and I'm really looking forward to it because I know this love relationship will be drama-free and a lot of fun. It also makes a lot of sense, considering the very strong friendship they've shared since the first game. As the previous poster mentioned before me, Garrus never questioned Shepard's decision or if he ever did, he still totally supported him/her no matter what.
