Why Did You Choose Your LI?

- She's the only character who didn't meet Shepard in a damsel in distress situation, so her whole attraction to Shepard isn't the hero-worship path (main reason why I can't romance either Liara or Tali).
- She's a succesful woman by herself. She doesn't need Shepard to do things. Only character considerated as an equal to Shepard before they met.
- Woman that doesthe impossible posible. Project Lazarus is a success thanks to her, many gave up about bringing Shepard back to life. Every Shepard owes her their life.
- She isn't a safe character. I disliked her in my first playtrough, just couldn't stand her. However I could understand her better after a few dialogues. She isn't an easy character to like, but once your affond with her, there's no way that woman can't be partof Shepard's life.
- The sexual tension. Shepard and Miranda teasing each other at the beginning of the romance, pushing each other boundaries. The renegade kiss is one of the best scenes with her, something bith of them enjoyed.
- I like her background, enginereed to be perfect, but she can only accept her mistakes. Shepard saying that her success are part ofher by her decisions and determination is plus forher character. There's also the thing of she deciding her own destiny, throwing away all of her father decided for her. She's her own person.
I think those are the main reasons why Iromance Miranda.

Tali
- In ME1 She doesn't jump into your bed, she isn't some stalker just beacuse you saved her from the mercs.
- In ME2 She loves you but it came after some time and she still didn't even dare to think you would like her because she is a quarian
Basicially she is humble, funny and cute without being perfect...most LI just HAVE to be perfect. Liara is Prothean expert and Shadow brooker, Miranda is perfect because was designed to be perfect, Ash is racist and thinks humans are perfect, Jack is dangerous and perfectly powerfull...and compared to them Tali is what? An admiral that everyone ignores?
Agreed, Tali has a lot going for her, but she also has flaws and weaknesses that give her depth. She is not a good leader, despite all her people's insitance to make her one. She offen lacks confidence in her own abilites. The is selfless regarding her people to the point of it being unhealthy for her wellbeing, She has her racism towards synthetics, and starts off naive and unexperience. But for all these, she has strengths that balance these out, and shows growth as she begins to move past her flaws until by the end of the series is better and more rounded person for it.

Why wasn't there an option for Shepard to say "don't worry about it, even if we could never touch I still care about you"?
Well, to be fair, since it IS possible, I find it entirely believable that it's the most important topic for them. Particularly for Tali, given the type of culture the quarians have. The quarians seem like a (necessarily) repressed society to me, unable to really express themselves as humans do. That feeling of isolation within the society is amplified by their outsider status in the galactic community.
This is one reason why I like the new Tali scene in Citadel; it's a good microcosm for the quarian dilemma of wanting to be close to others, both intimately and in the inter-species society, while being unable to go about it in normal ways. Tali's experience with romance and flirting is formed from movies as opposed to dating or flings.
The fact that syncing suit environments is the most intimate thing a quarian can do according to Tali shows you how exaggerated the importance of physical contact, proximity, and intimacy has become in quarian society. It's an interesting contradiction since they are also the most bunched-up, bundled society, but you see the same thing in Japan, where overpopulation can lead to closer platonic proximity but more introverted sex lives.
So when you look at the quarians, it's entirely possible that the importance they place on, say, words as opposed to actions is reversed from the human perspective. For humans, saying "I care about you" is much more intimate then sex, but is that the case for quarians? Do words become cheap in a society based around words?
This brings me to the OP and why I chose Tali in the first place, which is that I love romances in which each character has a flaw and/or handicap that is either amplified or complemented by the romance. Since I'm a hopeless Buffy/Angel fan, I see shades of tragic romance in the Tali/Shepard scenario with the whole quarian immune system thing - that there is something fundamental blocking an otherwise happy relationship, and while I'm of course gleeful that this is overcome by the end of ME3, perhaps it was overcome a little too easily.

Went with Kaidan in ME1 because I adored Carth in KotOR and Garrus wasn't available.
Went with Garrus in ME2 because I'd wanted him since ME1 (exotic, deep voice, tall, super sexy, etc.) and Thane because I'd been interested since I first saw him advertised (very physically appealing, sexy voice). Unfortunately, Thane's story didn't keep me romantically interested in ME2.
Continued with Garrus in ME3 because he's the best thing since sliced bread. I think Garrus/Femshep may have finally beaten Carth/female PC and Alistair/Warden as my favorite Bioware romance.
Returned to Kaidan in ME3 just to see how it would play out after having been with Thane. The Kaidan romance was nice, but it's got nothing on Garrus.
Considered Traynor.. still considering her if I ever do an import-free PT of ME3.

I liked how they came full circle by mid-ME3, when he went from cautiousness (who wouldn't be cautious after what Cerberus had done and having their heart completely broken like that?) back to total trust ("I'll never doubt you again/you're real enough for me"), and how, as he says, he never stopped loving her despite it all. How tender and loving he was during the rest of ME3 only sealed the deal, and of course the fact that he's gorgeous and has a voice to die for helps.
He's my Shepard's closest friend and rock, and I was so happy with the way the romance unfolded in 3.

Turian or not, I think I would go for any species if it came with Garrus's voice & personality.
Even a hanar? Vorcha? Volus?
Yes. They're pixels, and I fell for the man.

Liara has something of that, yes. The thing is, she was character-assassinated to be that way. I like Liara as a character since ME2, if not as an LI. I just can't over the sudden change in personality between ME1 and ME2, and I resent her status as the writer's pet.Xilizhra wrote...
You know, I'd say that Liara qualifies for this just as easily... of course, I vastly prefer Liara with Femshep, so perhaps this works out in a roundabout way.Unlike all other LIs available for maleShep, Miranda is, in her own way, as larger-than-life as Shepard is, and that's why she's a natural fit, a perfect companion for him.

fem shep is garrus and it is because he is awesome but also because he is with shepard from the beggining and is with shep the longest of any squademate. also my shep is pro alien and thinks they are equals to humans and that neither one is better or worse. so my shep dating a turian sets an example since humans and turians tend not to like each other but the most famous human in the galaxy is dating a turian it shows we can get along. so by personality loyalty politically and just in plain coolness it is garrus for fem shep. I can't choose for male shep though cause like I said there are too many that are great

Though I will say that for whatever reason, I never actually wanted to romance her character until seeing some of her content in ME3.

Ypu are the first Tali fan I've seen that hasn't absolutely loved Tali's Normandy's evac scene.
Personally I thought it was the most touching 10 seconds of the entire romance. It shows that by the end of ME3 she considers being with Shepard on the Normandy more of a home to her than being with her own race on her ancestral planet. Powerful stuff.
