I did it because of finally being able to finally romance someone with my shepard that is both charming and deep. I am very grateful to bioware for it. Homophobia in the gaming community is very prevalent and it pisses me off.
I agree with you and I aplaud Bioware for giving us the option for Ss LIs. No more lonely Shep for me!

BSN, with all it's quirks, is remarkably tolerant. Either Mass Effect fans are more accepting than average gamers, or the moderators do a great job of discouraging homophobia on these boards. It's nice to be able to behave like everyone else on these boards and not have to worry about the blowback.HiddenInWar wrote...

This one time there was an LGBT thread on the WoW forums...... it was just awful, turns out a lot of conservative dinosaurs play that game.

I come from a conservative family... and none of us are like that. Like many other topics (evolution, religion, etc), I think LGBT only draws out trolls when it's flaunted. I might be wrong, but that's just what I've observed over the years.Eterna5 wrote...

Yeah. The LoL forums is also not a safe place for minority gamers. I made a thread a long time ago suggesting that Riot makes a badass granny champion, because there were enough Victoria's Secret models in the League for now, and the amount of downvotes and personal attacks I got were pretty amazing. In contrast, BSN had threads about Ashley's makeover not being appropriate to her character, and I was blown away by how much support it got. I always thought talking about gender inequality in a gaming forum was just asking for trouble. and bringing up homosexuality was even worse. The BSN is the only gaming community I've been apart of where I can participate fully and honestly without being marginalized.Eterna5 wrote...

Blizzard as a whole is very homophobic. The "f" word doesn't even get censored. People call each other that word on chat while I play Diablo all the time.Eterna5 wrote...

Blizzard as a company is not homophobic, in World of Warcraft many NPC's are implied to have homosexual relationships, one even outright states it.
Their fanbase on the other hand......

Some workers at Blizzcon went on a gay slur tirade after the performance, and I don't see how the "f" word bypass the censor. I guess they're more apathetic overall.Eterna5 wrote...

They publicy apologized for the performance, I never heard about the worker thing though.

2. I play gay romances in games.
3. Howerever ME3 gay Shepard felt reconned and contrived so I didn't pursue gay romance in this game. It's non-existing in my head canon. They should have introduced Shep as bi-sexual from the beginning.

I choose it because its more content I haven't seen yet. Each of my playthroughs feature characters that let me see something new. I pick my LIs based on who meshes best with the current Shep's personality.
Cortez's romance scenes in Citadel were really sweet. And I didnt have to be gay to appreciate that.

Well said.

Hey guys, I always noticed how many users here on BSN like Steve Cortez and gay Kaiden Alenko as their LIs.
I keep reading about Gaiden Alenko but I never see the option to romance him as MascShep. Only Cortez. How is it done?
That said, I am a bit disappointed that there is NO RECOURSE for those who romanced Jacob. He was just written out of the game it seems.

Kaidan is an alcoholic, you need to buy him a bottle of Whiskey during the hospital visit to activate the romance. Also, be extra nice to him wouldn't hurt either.JacobLover wrote...

I agree that there should've been same-sex LI's from the start, but how is the mere option of gay romances a retcon? The fact that they exist doesn't mean Bioware is saying "Your Shepard is gay/bi.". If you decide your Shepard is straight, then that's what he or she is, simple as that.

On my very first playthrough (unimported) I romanced Kaidan without giving him the whiskey

Interesting, I thought the Whiskey was a mechanic to helo shield straight guys from the ghey. I guess if it's possible then I guess I gave ME team too little credits.nrobbiec wrote...

The way I see it, gay Shepard didn't fraternize with Kaidan in ME1 because he was just put in Command, and he wanted to be professional. None of the ME2 squaddies swung that way, and Kaidan was unavailable. In ME3, he realized there was a strong possibility of losing this war, so he may as well enjoy life while he still can.Meatbaggins wrote...
