The general consensus is that first-time playthroughs run somewhere between 45-60 hours while being what appears to be thorough...then when you are done you realize you missed a bunch of stuff. Extremely cautious people who also read every codex entry as they go are capping 100-120+ hours easily.
The easiest character to control is the fighter. Walk up and hit crap, no thinking. They are also the weakest class, IMHO. Rogues are the next more complex, requiring flanking and more use of 'special abilities' to survive, but doing more damage. they are also the second most effective class. Mages are the most diverse and difficult to master class (a t of people on consoles complain about AOE spells, although I have never had an issue) but played right they are also by far the most powerful class.
Hope that helps.

Can't help you on the character class, as I don't own an XBOX so don't know what class is best suited to the controls (I like Rogues though), but my first run through the game took about 87 hours. Second run was over 70 hours.

Well, some people who don't do the sidequests or read any dialgue are doing the game in like 25-30 hours -apparently-.

70-80 hours for an average user? I dont think so...
I think more along the lines of around 50 hours for the average user.

To be fair mages arent particularly hard to master, just learn a couple of overpowered key spells such as ice cone, crushing prison and mana clash and your good to go.

Yea, probably for people who frequent this site 70+ hours, but i dont think people who post on here are average users. Just to be annoyingly pedantic

On the console you aim with your clunky controller, and it is a lot less imprecise than on PC which is why people seem to have difficulties with it.
Oh, sorry, i understand you now.

I did most of the quests and visited all areas.
As for the class:
I can't tell you how the controls are since i'm on a PC, but i have played through DA:O 4 times, three of those were as a Rogue

Took me 81 hours first time through as a female noble rogue on pc. Finished at lvl 21. Although I apparently missed some quests and only have 92% world explored

powergame much? for the Eyes of Andraste, could ya at least try to encourage new people to actually "play" the game, instead of missing it?
Personally, first time 87 hours.....second 78 hours, third unfinished(wrong class for my taste),fourth still playing beyond 100!

It might have been 100% after i played through the other Origins now that i think of it, so add approx. 3-4 more hours on that.

These are also the people who complain that the DLC is too short because they did it in 20 minutes.
On the subject... Rogues are a lot of fun to play if you like going in sneak mode to scout ahead and plan better strategies. Mages can really turn the tide in a battle and Fighter are pretty much basic vanilla like in other RPGs.
If you are more in the story, you should pick more according to your origin than class, that's where the fun is for us old school story RPG guys.
On one playthrough I'm actually letting the computer level up my companions automatically, I am now using many skills that I would never have picked and that is fun too as it is forcing me to develop new strategies or strategeries as one would say.
