It has been anounced that there will be origins in DA:I but they will be more like ME where you don't play them but will have an impact on the story. So I'm wondering what are some origins you guys hope are gonna be in it. I'm kinda hoping there's a Grey Warden origin or at least at some point you can become one. What do you people want to see?

Heres a poll.

if there's an option to be former circle mage, that's what i'll choose.

It's really dependent on the plot of DA:I and the role of the main character, I think. Certainly I think trying to go for a breadth of experiences is ideal, as in ME, with less moralizing.

I just sort of like the idea of each of my characters coming out of the area the previous one romped around in.

I will be happy with getting to create my own character, that I have full control over. Thats it.

This.  It's really too early to say what backgrounds I'd hope for given I don't even know what the story is going to be about.

Though given the number of people who were upset at having to play a human, I kinda hope elf-blooded is an option...

1) Royalty Origin (you are the prince and heir to the kingdom of the anderfels)

2) Chevalier Origin ( You are/were an Orlesian Chevalier in the service of the Empress)

3) Magister Origin [Mage] (You were a Tevinter Magister)

My one regret is that I never got to join the circus.

to name a few...

1. half elf origin- still would technically fall as a human pc, maybe taken in by your elven parents clan
2. Ash Warrior- we barely know anything about them which could prove interesting
3. Noble- likely from Orlais
4. ex templer
5. former circle mage
6. tevinter magister apprentice
7. dragon hunter- like in DotS

I would love that espeacialy the 1st one so that way I can kinda play as something other than human.

Why would you get to play as any of those? If we look at it within context of ME2 all there would be is a briefing about what you picked at the start of the game. At the very most you would probably run into people who would just spout exposition about your "past" and you get to retort how you feel about it.

exactly. I would have loved to play as a Dalish again so why not have a half elf Dalish.

BW gets what they want (technically human pc) and I get what I want (elf, even though its not a true elf)

@Siradix

BW did say the backgrounds would have a bigger impact. So....yeah

Spacer. Or, you know, the circus thing that Siradix suggested.

I think that your origin story will tie in very closely to your class. Like a mage would fall outside of the normal Orlesian hierarchy, a warrior would have a chevalier and/or templar background, and a rogue, I dunno, a pickpocket or a pirate?

If you're hoping BioWare will make you a Grey Warden... don't raise your hopes too high, because it just won't happen.

I would like an origin where your parents are Orlesian bards/spies who were killed when you were a child. You fled Orlais or the place where you lived, with the help of a templar or a family friend or someone. We could end up meeting the killer/s late in the game and deciding their fate.

So they add a coming of age quest on top of what I said. It still won't be to the point where people will ostracize you on both sides for being a half-breed.

Out of curiosity, they said we will choose origin AND notority, like shepard, or they will invent something different?

As for the OP, i want an origin to fight against the emperess of Orlais. Maybe and peasent or a low knight.

I'd like a street urchin background. I'd love to play a protagonist that's spent his/her life on the streets, stealing, conning and killing people just to survive. A case of mistaken identity or something leads him/her to become the Inquisitor (or whatever it is we'll be).

I'd also quite like a traveler/nomad/gypsy type of background. Having the option to play as a protagonist who has traveled around Thedas, never stopping anywhere for very long would allow us to start off with a neutral attitude to the whole mage/templar/whatever thing and then maybe form our opinions on the situation as we play.

Well since I know next to nothing about the context of the game I have doubts about whether my dream of having a background where I own a sentient bonzai tree that grows miniature golden apples and is incredibly sassy will mesh with the lore.

I would like this as well. Either from the Qunari thing in Act 2 or the Mage/Templar thing in Act 3.

Circle Mage is also a good suggestion.

I would like to see an Antivan Crow. Maybe you are looking to escape the order or something went wrong and you need to hide out and gain power and influence so you can keep the other Crows off you.

I know we're only human but maybe a background that has something to do with one of the other races.

To OP: A Warden makes no sense. No reason to become one, they only fight darkspawn, that whole plot and the Blight is over and done. Also, if they became a Warden they'd have to do Warden stuff, not Inqusiitor stuff. And a Warden would never abandon the order or take on non-Warden Inqusitor duties that have nothing to do with darkspawn.

I like the idea of a case of mistaken identity, a criminal, or a conman, who is roped into replacing the real Inquisitor, who died in some kind of accident during the prologue.

Perhaps they did it intentionally to cause trouble, perhaps they maintained the lie simply because they feared for their life if discovered, or perhaps maybe the real Inquisitor was such a vile person, Thedas is actually better off with their replacement.

Think, Jean Valjean or Edmond Dantes in Dragon Age?

I hope there won't be a noble background, rich merchant family perhaps. since we probably have a set last name it would be weird if the noble family we come from ceases to exist if we pick another background. That creates holes in the setting.

An average joe somewhere on earth who watch an RPG being played out for him instead of him playing it out?
At least the impact is, the story actually acknowledge his existence outside the story, instead of trying to fool him into thinking that he roleplay as the character inside the story. Third person narrative is very good at this.

Seriously tho, having an impactful origins whether playable or not mean nothing to me when the story and the game do not assume I, the player and the customer, am the protagonist of the story and not some moron preset character created by the developer.
