@Felya- It wouldnt be a deal breaker for me if they didnt do a half elf option but I still really want one.

We should start the Half-Elf Background Movement :)

It has been anounced that there will be origins in DA:I but they will be more like ME where you don't play them but will have an impact on the story. So I'm wondering what are some origins you guys hope are gonna be in it. I'm kinda hoping there's a Grey Warden origin or at least at some point you can become one. What do you people want to see?

Origin 1: You're a merchant who uses blood magic on his customers to keep them coming back.
Origin 2: You're a templar who enjoys arm wrestling with Geralt of Rivia, even though you lose everytime.
Origin 3: You're a mage.

to name a few...

1. half elf origin- still would technically fall as a human pc, maybe taken in by your elven parents clan
2. Ash Warrior- we barely know anything about them which could prove interesting
3. Noble- likely from Orlais
4. ex templer
5. former circle mage
6. tevinter magister apprentice
7. dragon hunter- like in DotS

I enjoy these, especially the first one. It would be interesting to see Thedas through the eyes of a half-elf. If i'm not mistaken they're not fully accepted by both humans and elves.

for me it would...I never liked playng as a human Hawke in DA2...in fact I just finished DA2 one time, instead I played DA:O multiple times, and I'm planning on buyng it for PC too, so I can play it with the mods ^^

I totally agree...we should open a movement ;)

Thinking well, I would like a half breed character even more than a total elf or human...it would make a very interesting point of view.Image IPB

I'm hoping to have a mix of DA:O origins and some new ones in Inquisition. I think this list gets it all for me. To be honest, I don't really know what kind of Origin I'd want in DA:I (other then my Tal-Vashoth Qunari suggestion). But origins like this would be interesting.

- Human / Human Noble, Criminal, Magi (or apostate)

- Elven / Dalish Elf, City Elf, Magi (or apostate... again)

- Dwarven / Surface Dwarf

- Qunari / Tal-Vashoth

I'd like it in at least two stages, preferably 3-birth, childhood experiences, adult decisions. Each would inform the specifics of the others. So, for instance:
Birth:
1. Half-Elven, born in the alienage
2. Child of traveling merchants
3. Heir to nobility

Childhood experiences:
1. Ran with a bad crowd
2. Apprenticed to an artisan
3. Made to serve in... some sort of military capacity (page, camp helper, etc.)

Adult Decisions: this stuff would be about what you CHOOSE to do, rather than what happens to you, setting it apart from the other two categories
1. Struck out on your own.
2. Killed a man for his stuff (foreshadowing of all the looting! :P)
3. Turned a friend in to the guard

You might even see a branching tree of some sort, less about locking off types of options than presenting different takes on them. For instance, running with a bad crowd for the merchant's child would mean associating with street thugs, while for the noble the bad influences would be about abusing power and acting selfishly. More options per level would be better, but this is just of the top of my head.

I doubt there's going to be anything quite that... expansive, but it'd be cool. Also, everyone asking for Tevinter Magister or Orlesian Chevalier, you guys know that that sort of thing would influence the voice used, right? I feel like an Orlesian accent could get old, fast (although I wouldn't turn down the opportunity to have my PC do that hyper-stereotypical French laugh, just for the hell of it.)

I really want an option to have an elven-blooded background, for awhile now actually. Just imagine the implications of being one. If this would be available, I will forgo the standard edition of DA:I and instead order the collector's edition, no lie.

@KENNY4753

I would sooooo join. <3

^ good list although I am pretty sure a rogue cannot be either a Templar or Circle Mage

DA2 Had templar hunter enemies that could stealth and backstab, so something like that.

Perhaps add an Avvar as one of the warriors? I am interested in them as far as backgrounds...
Chasind
Avvar
Orlesian commoner
Orlesian Noble
Antivan Pirate

Mage Background:
Tevinter Magister
circle Mage
Apostate

although I think there will only really be 3 or 4 options and that is okay, and I really hope background is based on Specialization so we may get more but I think it will be 3 or 4
Fereldan
Orlesian commoner
Tevinter
Orlesian Noble

which will change slightly based on class

I don't think OGB will show up until the 4 th game, still too young. Or he can be a child with power which is a popular trope

Well, if the internet is to be believed, in DAO, there was originally going to be Human Commoner and Human Barbarian, so maybe they could be background in this or a future title?

I'm also thinking that maybe the origins can have a unique skill tree only available for that origin that provide cross class bonuses.

This is the story i would like.
-I should be in west Philadelphia born and raised,
-On the playground spending most of my days.
-Chilling out maxing out acting all cool.
-Shooting some BBall outside of the school.
I should then be attacked by a couple of guys who were up to no good.
-Trying to make trouble in my neighbourhood
-I got into
....wait....
Was the fresh prince theme song an inspiration for the city elf origin?

I'd like a street urchin background. I'd love to play a protagonist that's spent his/her life on the streets, stealing, conning and killing people just to survive. A case of mistaken identity or something leads him/her to become the Inquisitor (or whatever it is we'll be).

I'd also quite like a traveler/nomad/gypsy type of background. Having the option to play as a protagonist who has traveled around Thedas, never stopping anywhere for very long would allow us to start off with a neutral attitude to the whole mage/templar/whatever thing and then maybe form our opinions on the situation as we play.

Don't know if you read my previous suggestions in other threads or if you've been poking around in my brain...[insert suspicious Fry]

In any case, this.
All I want to be is a street rat with a bitter past and trust issues who rises to become the almighty Inquisitor. :wizard:

Blood magic!

An average joe somewhere on earth who watch an RPG being played out for him instead of him playing it out?
At least the impact is, the story actually acknowledge his existence outside the story, instead of trying to fool him into thinking that he roleplay as the character inside the story. Third person narrative is very good at this.

Seriously tho, having an impactful origins whether playable or not mean nothing to me when the story and the game do not assume I, the player and the customer, am the protagonist of the story and not some moron preset character created by the developer.

Why the hell do you insit on posting the same crap on every single thread on the BSN?

Thread: Watermelons on DAI?

You: Yes, but is my character going to be forced through cutscene bull**** to eat these watermlons? He's thirsty and starving? Bollocks! My character detests watermelons.

Man, you're worse than Fenris!

OP:

I'd like to choose a rutheless path. If I am going to be an Inqusitor, I'll be the most cruel, vile and calculating bastard Thedas has ever seen.

Burn a village or let my suspect escape? BURN THE VILLAGE

great idea, but the poll seems a bit biased, I think most people want options like that but maybe giving a wide range and seeing if Half elf has a sizable percentage that choose it might make the devs take it more seriously?

yeah I suppose thats true. Maybe something like a "which background option would you like to have the most" kind of thing would be better.

this.

also Chasind, Elven Parent (when Elves mate with the other races, the child is always of the other parent's species, no half elves).

But honestly? would prefer to outright be Kossith......or Dwarf.

Why can't a Templar be a rogue?

Don't you remember the Templar Hunters from DA 2? Stealthing, backstabbing, two daggers, they were textbook rogues.

I don't believe there will be much more background options than in ME. My guess:

Orlesian Noble of some repute
Fereldan Refugee (alternatively Kirkwall refugee) of some rank so the inquisitor thing makes sense
Templar / Mage (depending on class) who wants to restore order in Orlais
Antivan Crow or other influential criminal who could have bought his position or tricked the inquisition by pretending to be someone else

My own wish is simply to get an orlesian backround and some great, unpronouncable surname (that I can pronounce due to my french lessons in school, hehe).
