I don't believe there will be much more background options than in ME. My guess:

Orlesian Noble of some repute
Fereldan Refugee (alternatively Kirkwall refugee) of some rank so the inquisitor thing makes sense
Templar / Mage (depending on class) who wants to restore order in Orlais
Antivan Crow or other influential criminal who could have bought his position or tricked the inquisition by pretending to be someone else

My own wish is simply to get an orlesian backround and some great, unpronouncable surname (that I can pronounce due to my french lessons in school, hehe).

And every voice actor will be cussing the devs out, because if we're called by that last name they'll the ones who have to pronounce it.

I honestly don't know what type of background I'd prefer, but I hope for at least one option that's a little... different to the norm for fantasy games? I like the noble/street urchin ideas, don't get me wrong, but at the same time they've been done a lot. Give me something a little different! Like the child of a blacksmith, or the subordinate/apprentice/whatever to a bastardly Cavelier.

The origins story was a great idea, making them non playable was a bad move, so as a result, I care very little for them.

Wonder if there going the route of "your specialization plays a bigger role" if its likely to tie into some sort of origin where its all based on what spec you choose for the game, i think that could be very interesting specially in regards to say being a blood mage, there some real good stories can be told for the pc just sitting in the specializations

I'd like to be a former templar, always thought they got painted in a bad light, would be nice coming from a templar background considering the other 2 games let you get the mage perspective.

1)Kossind(Saarabas Tal-vasgot, who joined to Tevinter Empire)

2)Elf(former Dalish Keeper, who joined to Tevinter Empire....or son of Elf Magister).

....he would be Battle-Blood Mage of Tevinter Empire....and later he becomes the future Archont, who...

1)enslave all Templars and force them to volunteer to fight for the Empire....OR,(with help of Kel-Sharok Dwarfs)turn all of them into golems army that will obey the Empire and its Archon(especially him)

2)destroy Chantry and replace it with the worship of the Old Gods or ancient elven pantheon, or worship of Magic & Most Powerful and long-lived Mages(something, similar to a dwarf Paragons)

3)lead the armies of the Empire to conquer all Thedas

4)destroy the false teaching of Qun, and personally set on fire tome of Koslun

An alien from another world-lol.

Seriously though, I'd like to play someone from the outer limits of Thedas, who hasn't been exposed to the majority of it's troubles. You know, someone who is looking at the situation as an outsider and can look at it objectively.

Or, someone who wields a lot of power, and can actually make big changes in Thedas based on their decisions and actions..

I would appreciate a noble background: perhaps a knight, not Templar.

I like how mass effect did the mix and match thing so like maybe defining childhood, and some sort of important life event, or situation. I'd also prefer if it didn't have to be directly attributed to you character class because that seems restrictive. The same way I can only butt heads with Carver if I'm a mage. I don't like those restrictions.

I'm wondering about this as well. From what we've heard/read (Asunder) about the Seekers, the Mage origin in particular could turn out to be very interesting - and in the case of blood mage PCs, even more so. OTOH, some circle mages could have joined the Seekers after the 9:40 Lambert disaster for... pretty good reasons (not spoiling), but if a mage PC had joined the Seekers before that? That'd definitedly make for a pretty interesting Origin story...

Finaly I'm nit alone. I mentioned a Grey Warden origin in one of my other post and I got a bunch of hate for it.

I'd love the background option for the PC to be happily married. You just never see happily married protagonists (cause a love interest must be shoehorned into everything!) and it would be a good justification for never romancing anyone. You'd of course never see the spouse, it would just be mentioned occasionally. It was pretty common in the ancient world when travel was a big deal for married people to live apart for long periods anyway.
