There should have been an option to leave Jacob and Brynn to die.

Seriously, in Mass Effect 2, you could leave Zaeed to die in his loyalty mission if it was done after the suicide mission. So Shepard has it in him/her to do it.
It'd be like. . .
To Jacob: "You cheating bastard. Have fun taking down Cerberus on your own."
To Brynn: "You interloping ****. You expect me to help you after what you've done? I'm out of here. Cortez, Pick us up, we don't need them."
And for the consequences, have Jacob show up somewhere as a Uniquely named Cerberus trooper. And maybe have a video or audio log of what Cerberus did to Brynn.
Renegade Shepard seems to be pretty mild in ME3 compared to the first two.

Shep did it to Zaeed.
Choose to save the workers, Vido gets away, Zaeed gets stuck under a metal beam, and Shepard can choose to just leave him. Walk away.

Actually you can choose to let him burn... Ah, good memories....

That's Paragon Shepard, oddly enough.
Also, just don't do the mission. Jacob and Brynn die.

That would be meta gaming though.

Not really. If you don't rescue them, the Cerberus scientists are all killed. The same thing happens with Jack and Kahlee Sanders at Grissom station if you wait too long to do the mission.
I really wished there was a way I could've slapped some sense back into Jacob though when you first meet him. That lady knew he was dating my Femshep and went after him anyway!

That's cold.
But considering ME3's version of a Renegade Shepard, it's probably still in character.

Shepard needed them to work on the crucible. Do you think Hackett would be pleased to know that Shepard refused to save the Cerberus defectors because of spite?

Yes really. You don't meet Jacob until you go on the mission, and you don't find out about the fact that he cheats on you until you meet him. Meta gaming means having knowledge upfront, hence you would never be able to kill Jacob off intentionally on your first playthrough.

Jacob, sure. Brynn on the other hand? What part of Jacob's leaving FemShep was her fault? It wasn't like Brynn actively conspired to steal him away or anything.
