There should have been an option to leave Jacob and Brynn to die.

See the fates of Mordin, Ashley/Kaidan, Legion, Wrex, Samara, Falere, EDI and the entire Geth and Krogan species respectively.

Mild really is one of the last words I would use to describe renegade shep in ME3. Behind "Reasonable" "Calm" "Compassionate" and "Kitten-Hugging"

For me Jacob was just a token black dude, I always found him boring. That being said, the fact he can cheat on shepard did make him at least a bit more humorous. Cortez should have been in the story since ME2.

Nope. Tokenism means limited inclusion of an ethnic group right? I'm sure that is true for games like FFVII (Barrett) and Gears of War (Cole Train).

But not in this when you have the epic David Anderson. Jacob was extremely boring, and I think the writers didn't really know where to take his storyline, he has father issues (who doesn't?) Wants to do something about the missing colonies, wants Shepard to trust him, critical of Cerberus methods.

Wait a second.

Jacob, sure. Brynn on the other hand? What part of Jacob's leaving FemShep was her fault? It wasn't like Brynn actively conspired to steal him away or anything.

She said she was aware that Jacob was dating somebody, more specifically a well decorated Spectre and former Alliance Navy Commander.

I'm fairly sure the writers had Jacob break up with Shepard to try and show the crew wasn't hopelessly dependent on Shepard and he was the obvious choice.

For renegade FemSheps that romanced Jacob.

Seriously, in Mass Effect 2, you could leave Zaeed to die in his loyalty mission if it was done after the suicide mission. So Shepard has it in him/her to do it.

It'd be like. . .

To Jacob: "You cheating bastard. Have fun taking down Cerberus on your own."

To Brynn: "You interloping ****. You expect me to help you after what you've done? I'm out of here. Cortez, Pick us up, we don't need them."

And for the consequences, have Jacob show up somewhere as a Uniquely named Cerberus trooper. And maybe have a video or audio log of what Cerberus did to Brynn.

Renegade Shepard seems to be pretty mild in ME3 compared to the first two.

Never had a BF/GF i see. Some of you guys have "Psychotic Ex"  written all over your posts.

Shepard can choose to let Zaeed die because Zaeed looked untrustworthy at that point. Zaeed was willing to sacrifice an entire factory of workers simply for revenge and pointed a gun at Shepard when he didn't get his way. He could've very well been a hindrance on the mission.

That's very different than leaving an entire group of scientists (who could've helped immensely with the war effort) along with their families to die because you were mad at Jacob and you thought Brynn was a b****. Would you have left them behind if you had no qualms with Jacob but because Dr Gavin Archer was there? That would've been the single most out of character action in the entire game and that eerily mirrors Zaeed's actions from ME2.

I'd support a backhanded slap renegade interrupt.
Now if you really want to get evil: a "kick Brynn down some stairs" renegade interrupt

A bit extreme. A nice verbal beating would have satisfied me. No need to kill anyone for cheating. My Shep isn't a bunny boiler. She has more important **** to do.

Also, why does it matter if Brynn knew he was seeing someone else? She has no obligation to Shep. If she wants a guy who'll cheat on someone in order to be with someone else...she is most welcome to him. With my blessing.

My Shep may not be a bunny boiler, but I think some of your Sheps may be lol. It's a bit scurry.

Yeah, Brynn tells FemShep she went after Jacob.

That said, I do feel sorry for Brynn getting knocked up after being Jacob's priiiize.  Her cattiness probably has to do more with jealousy and insecurity.  Ffs, she knows that her baby's father still loves the most awesome woman in the galaxy.  And now she's dealing with an unplanned pregnancy during a war.  For her sake, I hope Jacob doesn't change his mind and find a new woman.

I had Jacob killed in the suicide mission just for what he did in ME3. Best he die a hero than live as a walking sterotype.
And don't tell me none of you haven't done this.

That's a good idea, now that I think about it.

Stereotype after stereotype. Jacob has abandonment/father issues during his loyalty mission. He then abandons FemShep.

This doesn't make sense, I guess either Bioware couldn't resist or they didn't take time to think about the implications.

I don't have anything against Jacob. I can't hold the cheating thing against him because I never romanced him. Mainly I keep him alive because he's a soldier and it makes sense to have him holding off Cerberus soldiers rather than seeing a bunch of scientists and civilians doing it.

Don't forget that his father abandoned him to rule a personal harem where he took advantage of mentally handicapped women.  The amount of stereotypes... it's overwhelming.

At least at the party Jacob says he plans on proposing to Brynn.  Good.  He better stay with her.

Least he died with some dignity. Rather than that...thing he became in ME3.

Well, Jack doesn't have a father and Miranda's father is even worse; Jacob may have been the only option for that mission type.
I won't deny the implications are unfortunate, but given how well Anderson comes across, I don't think it's systematic within Bioware.

Perhaps he's just too impulsive for his own good.  He comes off as the type who is searching for meaning in his life.  Like Jack said.  "Jacob doesn't know who he is.""

He left the Alliance for Cerberus despite the latter's reputation as a terrorist organization because he felt like he wasn't doing anything meaningful in the Alliance (even though it's just that they didn't acknowledge it) so he acted on impulse despite the consequences.  In ME3, he's not sure what's to become of Shepard and finds a woman that he loves and people to fight for.  Again, giving him purpose in life so he acts on it despite that it might hurt Shepard.

I've met people like that before so it makes him a believable character to me.  An unlikable character?  Sure, but a believable one nonetheless.

Most of the squadmates have daddy issues, true.  There's Miranda, Jack, Liara, Tali, Garrus, Thane, James, Grunt, Wrex, and all Shepards have a missing dad.  None of the other dads are nearly as bad as Jacob's though.  Miranda's dad may be a psycho but he isn't a rapist.

I don't think the implications were intentional either.  Like you said, there's Anderson and other strong characters who offset this unfortunate set up with Jacob.

Shepard blows up the last shuttle, seconds before Brynn and Jacob board.

Jacob: What the hell are you doing?
Shepard: Way I see it, Jacob, you have two options. To commit suicide or not?!
Jacob: What?!
Shepard: Until then, I'd take all the time I can get! Win, lose, it doesn't matter!
Jacob: Dammit! Shepard! You can't do this!
Shepard: I can. You took a heavy risk... now enjoy your prize!

Now that was how Renegade FemShep should have reacted!

Miranda's dad experiments on and mutates hundreds if not thousands of people in ME3.  I think he is worse than Jacob's dad.
