On Facebook....yeah, freaking Facebook, the comments section on EA's page is crammed with anger, disgust, frustration and vows to never buy another EA game. From experienced gamers, casuals and parents alike. One post kind of made me sad a little. A mom was on saying that her 10 year old son saved all his Christmas, birthday and allowance money for the game and hasn't been able to play it at all. The kid feels robbed and is in tears and the mom is pissed. Lots of complaints from self-described travelling business types who cannot play because of the online and wanted something to do on their laptops while travelling. Meanwhile, this is indeed the perfect storm, because many who didn't even buy the game are jumping and piling on, defending the decent amount of folks who are innocent victims of a faulty product. Many are also claiming Origin can go pound sand and are doing charge backs.

This is also the strongest argument out there against clients. Any client. Cause now apparently EA can ban you from your entire library of games on Origin if you seek a refund through your bank on Sim City. All of this to prevent Piracy? I don't think so. This is about making every EA game a 'social' experience, and that is a business model not a creative vision, as they claim. I'll be getting the popcorn out for DA3.

It pretty much gets that already on an hourly basis.

They're actively trying to be worse than their competition. I've gotten refunds on Steam. It's not troublesome, at all. There's no bull**** outright lying done to the customer. There's no taking away games from clients. There's no threatening, badmouthing nor punishing the user.

Yes but certainly not with this ferocity before that I've seen.

It actually feels rather good that the ferocity of the hate is this strong. It's completely valid!

I wonder about the promised damage control games, You guys recon EA attempts a fair compensation or rather, lets people pick between three or so bad, old games nobody is buying anyway?
Willing to bet copy of SC4 via steam that DA II WILL be among the three( or whatrver) free games offered.

Thanks for giving us money and letting us kick you on balls:) Please enjoy this free used condom. "

Being EA i expect bad games or titles in general that have failed really bad. It would suprise me so bad if the compensation is fair

Tweaked the OP a bit with few more links that had been popping up through the week. My God does it make a pathetic tale.

Future of gaming today. Brought to you by EA.
Cool stuff.

so this compensation has not even kick in yet? won't be surprised if this poopstorm blows over eventually, and then EA silently "forgets" about the compensation altogether.

I still think its funny GameSpot gave a 50 and Destructoid a 40. Lol.

And moderators at Bethesda think its hilarious and are in disbelief at what EA is doing. They post links making fun of how abysmal the game is in threads and make funny comments bashing it and, more specifically, the obvious, shameless lies.

Maxis's head woman or whatever deserves criticism as well. The excuse EA gave for their support number vanishing was...may I use the word appropriately...epic.

And in one month from now, people will have forgotten and gobble up the next EA product.

Sad, but true.  And EA learns nothing and pays no serious consequence for their actions.  History repeats itself.

Are they really that naive to gamers and their fanbase in general?

I like the theory I saw today reading the thread on NeoGAF. One person there suggested that SC5 really started as a F2P browser game from EA's Play4Free but they decided to convert it into a AAA game mid way through dev, which they apparently barely even tried to do that much. Small city sizes, UI using javascript, limited to using one CPU core, and forced multiplayer systems make that look like a strong possibility.

It's funny I joked with my former WoW guildies who bought the game that they bought a $60 facebook game. Its pretty pathetic that it appears to be true.

I read that it can run offline by modding the code. Removing two lines of code. And if people own the game, and want to remove two lines of code, they can. Know why? They own it. They can use it as shotgun target practice, too, if they want.

Remember how they said it could never run offline? How it needed all the servers and crap? How it was a very intricate ordeal? Yeah....two lines of code.

Liars!

Absolutely not, like i said previous in the thread i didn't expect anything but old games or games that failed quite bad.
Now just looking at the list out of the games they offer to people i personally own 4 of them.

You're kidding, right? These are one-year-old games. What more do you want? You wouldn't be satisfied if EA gave every one of these people one hundred bucks, would you.

I really don't understand the concept that you need to be monetarily compensated for something like this. It's a stupid mistake, but compensation is silly in my eyes.

Mass Effect never had the player base that Sim City did, I don't think. Furthermore, ME multiplayer was never utilized by everyone (as required by this and Diablo 3).

I don't want anything, heck have i even said if i bought the game? I'm mostly following the reactions to the release and nothing else and since i saw that it hadn't been reported in this thread i posted it and just said my two cents.
I was personally rather suprised that they decided to compensate with games from the start for those that bought the game
