Was it worth it?

I took time away from the game and really started making a push for it in the last month or so.

It seems to be sucking the fun out of the game and I want to quit and just enjoy myself. Did you guys/gals run into this roadblock as well?

I kinda feel like maybe had I started sooner it would be different, but its so late in the game.

Seems it would be shame to ruin the game I love for a novelty. It's  not l don't have a few banners to pick from to wear.

I'm stuck at the N7 challenge. I was never that opposed to promoting, but it's not very organic. Still, it's only 12 or 14 more promotions to the banner, so...

It actually added enjoyment to the game.

It made me use kits that I hadn't used in a long time. Which let me re-discover how much I liked those kits.

So IMHO, it was worth it. Having every banner is a nice bonus too. ;)

Gave me something to do once my manifest was maxed. I'm just remaxing out Spectre Mastery now.

Just switch it up... don't play 200 waves with one kit in a row... do 2-3 games with one kit then switch to another.

I found forcing bad weapons onto kits I'm not very good with didn't help. So for weapon challenges... I just ran the GI/TGI... and I guess you could add AIU to that list now too.

QFT.

I just rotated kits and weapons in every match. Some worked, some didn't, but it added to the variety in the game, and made me discover some comibations I loved.

Yeah, I only wore the banner for one day, but the process of getting it was fun, with the very, very notable exception of N7 Mastery. That sucked hard.

For me Collectors was the hardest to get because on the PS3 your lucky to be able to complete a match with them on Gold or Plat without a crash. had to grind them out a lot on Silver. I probably won't do it or the N7 challenge again. Too grindy.

It kinda is worth it at the end because the banner looks cool but from my experience I grinded a lot of challenegs for mine that I got to the point where I was burned out from playing the game so I took a few days off, just do it at your pace and have fun it's after all like some people say "just a banner".

Grinding Bronze over and over with crappy builds and crappy weapons ... then after a month or so of sporting the banner you'll probably end up not displaying it because of all the stigma and expectation from other players. Playing as an unknown underdog is more fun.

I wonder how many other BoTBs don't sport their banners? When I looked on N7HQ a couple of months ago, 8 of the 10 players above me in the UK Challenge Points chart weren't displaying theirs, despite also having the challenge.

On the other hand, the challenges force you to try out some interesting chars and weapons you'd probably never get to use. But doing getting the Commando challenge, 200 waves of some very dull characters, it can be a real chore, can't survive or score well on Gold/Plat, so end up speeding through Bronze Glaciers with minimal reward.

Getting the banner felt good at the time, but IMO they're too common now to feel particularly proud about, which is a shame ...

It was so worth it, my life expectancy has gone up by 12 years and it helped me overcome my fear of spiders.

I had quit for a few months out of boredom a while back and to be completely honest the challenges got me back in, I mean I felt the desire to play and saw that there were all these new challeneges and banners and such and it sucked me in :P Just like for trophies/achievements, if you're feeling like its a drag, play normally and stop grinding for a while :)

N7 mastery isn't as bad as people think. I am a few away from my 2nd! ;D

The promotions are the only real grind (well that and Machine mastery if you're not really keen on quarians like me). It's highly recommended to work on it at the same time as other challenges but even so you'll get to a point where you need nothing more than promotions to get BotB. You can try your luck with character cards but it might be easier to grab some friends and do a few speedruns to powerlevel some classes.

I'm pretty happy that I own all the banners including BotB but it doesn't matter much what anyone else thinks. Your goals should be fun, if you're not enjoying yourself then you're doing it wrong.

I actually enjoyed the diversity it brought to my playing habits with the exception of SMG mastery. Once you complete the hurricane and collector smg the pickings are slim.

There were some challenges I really enjoyed but the 200 waves with some characters and the N7 just seem to be the ones that will kill me.

I know its blasphemy to say this but I have never really enjoyed playing Krogans,Batarians, or the Vorchas. Not a big fan of TGI either. I am trying to play characters I don't enjoy and that is a lot of playing.

The banner itself is ugly and I would never wear it (especially because every stooge can get it by jst grinding bronze), but it was fun getting it.
Also, most of the challenges are really easy, so it's not hard to achieve, only a little tedious at times.

I completed it pretty quickly, a few weeks after the challenge system was implemented. For me, the only boring part were the promotions. The good part is that it made me to play with weapons and character that I hadn't played for months. Some of them were surprisingly fun.

If you make every game about challenges, yeah, it'll suck. Geth/Gold/London using QME with Locust and Predator will break your mind. Whoever your favorite kit or class is, set aside some time to play it. The grind is gonna happen no matter what.

ETA: It was worth it but I'll never promote again.

Yes and no. Some challenges were challenging, some were fun but a lot were just grinding.

Yes, I did. 200 waves with characters you don't particular like is hard. N7 Mastery and the weapon masteries (e.g. the Phalanx challenge) are also horrible. But I also discovered some new things on the way. I now enjoy playing the GI or using the M-11 Wraith shotgun because the challenges forced me to learn how to use them.

I am down to just characters and N7 mastery. All weapons, powers, and maps are finished.

It encouraged me to try all the classes and weapons. N7 was the hardest to achieve, I spammed recruit packs. Neverplayed the same class more than 3 times in a row, and used the "bad" weapons with max consumables on gun-friendly classes.

It was worth it as I discovered classes I like (GE for example) I'd have never touched otherwise.
