Nothing's ever worth what you put into a game, but you do it anyway.

Had to take a long break from doing the challenges. It was fun at first but yes I found myself hating playing certain kits and weapons. megabeast has it right about taking breaks from kit to kit. It is a long journey and even though I don't wear the banner I still think it was worth getting

BoTB banner set me free from grinding Council Operatives and the such hard-getting banners and I felt amazingly free to play ANY kit I like from now on. Still Enjoy that...

Although the banner itself in the lobby seems to be attracting aggression.

Glad to see someone say this.  Tired of seeing people go out of their way to get BotB and then saying it means nothing.  It does mean something, not everyone has it, you can't just grind Bronze for some of the challenges and if you like earning trophies/achievements it's basically the same thing.

It encouraged me to switch it up and really experience the variety the game had to offer. I searched for ways to make each kit effective. I hated the promotions, but even that wasn't so awful; I was able to briefly try a lot of odd, new specs while I earned the next million I'd spend to get everything back to level 18 or so.

All-in-all, I found it to be enjoyable and rewarding. It was much more interesting than playing the same loadouts over and over.

I am not done with the BotB challenge yet, but only I have only two challenges left (promotions and some waves in outsider mastery)... The only thing I did not enjoy was the terrible combat mastery challenge... and I am sure I will not enjoy the promotion challenge... But that Combat Mastery... oh, it was a nightmare

Some of the challenges are very tedious (200 waves as Character X, etc.). But I've got the coveted femshep banner.

I'm working on the alien challenges and 200,000 points with crappy weapons is really grating

Solo Bronze 4 times, using the crappy gun as much as possible.  That's what I did with the Spitfire.

What specifically do you hate about Combat Mastery? The only one that's a bit troublesome is grabs. Everything else kind of seems to come naturally, no?

The challenges "forced" me into playing a number of kits I probably would never have even tried without them. It also forced me to learn strategies, prioritization, situational awareness etc...

In short, the challenges improved my plays from "Holy crap, he sucks" to "He's kinda ok". I'd call that a significant improvement and for that  reason, I'd say they're worth it!

For me yes no question, many here already know I am smi-retired, finishing up the winter months where by excavation company is on down time, played ME many, many times in SP over the years, have been a big RPG player for probably 15 years.

ME-MP was my first venture into the online gaming world, almost a year ago when the kids were home from university they talked me into trying it, they knew my love for the series and at the time I fealt lost due to the SP ending, so I did and it`s been WOW.

The challenge system to me was a new RPG feature to a game I knew well, loved playing, have super friends so it was a breath of fresh air, when it comes to games I like to complete everything there is so yes it was worth it many times over.

My new venture is to complete everything within each banner, as many know we may only nee 7 of the 10 challenges to get the banner, I want to complete all 10.

I will say it has made me a better player. Solo mastery makes you learn situational awareness. I am twice as good after that challenge. I was mad it took me 10 games past the gold challenge (2 platinum - 8 gold attempts) until I saw some posts about many more attempts.

It actually added enjoyment to the game.

It made me use kits that I hadn't used in a long time. Which let me re-discover how much I liked those kits.

So IMHO, it was worth it. Having every banner is a nice bonus too. ;)

Same. My only PITA has been the Shotgun Challenge since I deeply hate some of them (and I completed it before Reckoning was out, I could've done it fast with the sexbot).
Also, playing with kits you would normally ignore and/or with second choice weapons really improves your skill.

It was worth it from the standpoint that I needed an endpoint to feel like I had "beaten the game" and could walk away. Took two months completely off and now fire it up only once in awhile as opposed to every night for hours on end.

That said, some of the challenges were a straight-up grind and not necessarily what a normal person would call "fun." And I don't even display my banner due to the way it seems to be perceived by others.

EDIT:  I should add that I did learn to really enjoy a few kits and weapons that I had previously ignored or assumed I wouldn't like.  So that part was nice.  Not sure I needed 200 waves to figure it out though...

I like completing games in 100%. After Retaliation ME3 Multiplayer simply became just another game to complete. But I have to admit that sometimes I wanted to use specific kit or weapon but I couldn't because I had already completed waves/points with this kit/weapon. And those stupid promotions...

Aside from the final grind for the map mastery challenge I didn't mind much: it was a good way to experiment with different weapons/kits

Explain to me how I can get Nomad without grinding Gold atleast. I can avoid Platinum if I want to and still aspire for BotB.

Self-esteem. Besides stuff like the RNG store, atleast we are sure that we would get what we have set out to achieve. There are times when life gets unpredicatable.

Also, most of the challenges are really easy, so it's not hard to achieve, only a little tedious at times.

Considering there are clear requirements forcing you to do Gold at best, then no, it is not really true that you can "get it by just grinding bronze".

That said, most of the achievements are achieveable on Bronze, but it'd take such a horridly long time. I spent ages doing silver to do the 200 wave parts, and I regret it. I should have done it all in gold, but I did not want to take leveling kits into gold when going for N7 mastery. :/

I was extremely hesitant to go for it at first but as stated above, I gained a better appreciation and understanding of kits and weapons I had hardly used.

Admittedly I used only the same 4 or 5 kits beforehand. Now I feel very comfortable with virtually and class available now due to the BotB banner.

I do not have it yet, but am about midway through my work on getting that coveted FemShep BOTB banner.

I would have to say for me, it has been worth it so far. I have a very bad habit, even in RPGs, of picking the one character that fits my playstyle 100% and never deviating from that. I literally spent the first 8-9 months of this game playing almost nothing else but my Turian Sentinel and Mattock.

Granted, even after all this, I STILL find that to be my favorite set-up. But working on BOTB has forced me out of my comfort zone and made me try other characters and weapons I otherwise never would have... and discovering that I do like some of them, too. Finding new kits that I actually like well enough I want to try them on Gold instead of the Silver level I have been using for the grinds.

Only thing I don't like is promotions. Hated that from the start. I wanted to be a hipster with low N7 that kicks butt, but I had to let that go, unfortunately.

Also, working on Lone Wolf definitely made me a better player. Helped me get better at situational awareness and I don't feel so panicked/pressured when I have to clutch Gold waves.
