What specifically do you hate about Combat Mastery? The only one that's a bit troublesome is grabs. Everything else kind of seems to come naturally, no?

oh yeah... grabs and 1.000.000 points of melee damage :D... I do use melee attacks, but obviously not enough to accumulate 1.000.000 quickly... I had to resort to solo sessions with the Kroguard which was quite boring. It may be easier now with the Krogan Warlord to do it naturally

It was worth it, but I REALLY hated the Blood Pack challenge. Ground through it by rotating the classes which were bearable. N7 challenge completely killed any ideas about further promotions as well.

Finished that a couple of night ago.  The headshot, grenades were done ages ago just had Grabs and Melee to go.

Melee just happened, especially as I enjoy Krogans.  Grabs was completely different I only had about 5 in game.

Spent a few sessions farming them on FB White about 20-30 a go.

Yes, I had roadblock. When I had to do 200 waves with turian soldier. Image IPB
But all in all, I feel it was worth it. First of all, it was good, to actually achieve it. Then, the character challenges introduced me to many characters I previously didn´t want to play and now I absolutely love. And finally, the banner looks cool Image IPB

Just switch it up... don't play 200 waves with one kit in a row... do 2-3 games with one kit then switch to another.

I found forcing bad weapons onto kits I'm not very good with didn't help. So for weapon challenges... I just ran the GI/TGI... and I guess you could add AIU to that list now too.

I completely agree with this post.  The 200 wave grind was the only thing that took away from my fun, especially if I did 3 krogans in a row.  Break up the races and so the play is varied which will keep everything more fresh.

The banner itself is ugly and I would never wear it (especially because every stooge can get it by jst grinding bronze), but it was fun getting it..

Explain to me how I can get Nomad without grinding Gold atleast. I can avoid Platinum if I want to and still aspire for BotB.

Can't. Have to get at least gold on all but 2 maps if you don't play platinum at all.

It was worth it to me. I had fun doing pretty much all of it. Did Reckoning challenge the other day too. For me, it gives me a goal. I like to achieve goals.

I thought it was fun. It makes you play kits that you may not usually play and you may find something out about the kit that you didn't realize. It takes you out of your comfort zone which keeps things fresh I guess.

I have done almost every challenge twice over. But it was a grind for some of those kits and weapons that you just can't figure out.

Fortunately once I finished everything, I was able to just play my way.

I agree with what a few others have already stated. The joy of the journey is in the ride. I used a lot of kits that I normally did not use and weapons that were once shelved. Without a doubt, it helped me become a better player. Now, I am going back through all of the challenges using new builds and kits. Was it worth it, for me, absolutely.

I actually enjoyed the diversity it brought to my playing habits with the exception of SMG mastery. Once you complete the hurricane and collector smg the pickings are slim.

The SMGs are fun to use with Marksman. +50% rate of fire + Geth SMG x with 100 shots + 80 shots from Extended mag + 45% chance to not use a shot with that other mod + AP ammo = rampage.

Use the Geth scanner to help find targets

My best advice for persuing the BOTB banner is to find a partner who you can play with regularly that has the same goals. I did a lot of duo play with a friend, and we were constantly pushing each other for success and cheering the other on. Even though we did alot of 2 player matches, we found we had tons of fun and our skills got much better as well.

It was a good experience, making a little effort to attain each banner while still playing for fun. But I'm glad to now go back to pre-retaliation style and playing freely with my fav-kits, although it might be sad if we lose the weekend challenges.
Moreover, I'd like to help others out more in getting good at the game. Really that represents my new challenge; "No one left behind" during extractions.

Yes, it was worth it. But grinding for the N7 banner was the worst part of the process.

I quite like having the banner and had fun unlocking it for the most part.

I made sure I knew how many of each item was required for each banner, as I could then pick out stuff I really didn't want to do and ignore it like the basic weapons, your least favourite map etc...

I also made sure to switch the stuff I needed regularly so that I didn't get bored and everything ranked up together rather then it seeming like a grind.

The promotions were tough, as I had all my characters maxed. My tactic for those was to save up money and when they released a new character on a Wednesday before Christmas I'd promote everything and blow all my cash so I'd have at least one class back up close to 20 I could use for Gold. I would then get the rest back up to 20 while saving towrads the next weeks character.

There were one or two guns I had to grind which were the Raptor and Hornet as it beat doing so many waves with characters getting them to 200,000. The easiest way I found to do this was to go in to a solo Bronze match with a level 20 character and put on level III equipment like SMG amps etc... then just kill everything with only the gun until it's done. Doing it this way will get you the challenge for a bad weapon in at most two games and the really bad weapons you can ignore anyway as you only need a few for the gun banners.

Map Mastery was easy enough playing unknown gold maps until I started getting close and then switching around regularly between the last few rather then boringly grinding them one at a time.

It would have been a lot more of a grind had I not had a manifest with everything available and all the ultrarares unlock to at least level 1. With more new stuff from the last DLC you have more options of what to go after and what to ignore once you get it all unlocked.

Thats part of the problem. I went from a full Manifest to misssing only 12 UR upgrades to now missing around 25. So I could play in quick bronze or silver matches to get my levels but then there isn't alot of credits for URs.

I like the femshep one so I went for it.
Unlocked the banner late last night after grinding gold for the past couple of weeks.

So far I've been kicked out of one game and voted on in a handful of others today - and these were Bronze/Silver rooms where my characters were under lvl 12 while everyone else had 20's.
lol

It actually added enjoyment to the game.

It made me use kits that I hadn't used in a long time. Which let me re-discover how much I liked those kits.

So IMHO, it was worth it. Having every banner is a nice bonus too. ;)

Yeah, I only wore the banner for one day, but the process of getting it was fun, with the very, very notable exception of N7 Mastery. That sucked hard.

This was my experience too. N7 was last and very hard to make myself complete. Poor weapons were trying at times, so I would just solo bronze with them, or slap them on a destroyer in a silver game; that's how I got through sniper mastery with those awful rifles.

Using the BOTB banner makes me feel a little like that wheelchair dude from GATTACA.
If you know what I mean.

I had fun getting it and ended up using a whole host of things that I otherwise would have missed.

Was it worth it - absolutely. I had fun with it.

To be honest I wish there were more challenges to earn, especially for the human starter kits.

its a known fact that BoB's dont have tans.

i definitly get your joke too. =]

OT:

if you want it then go for it, if you dont care then skip it.

most BoB's dont even wear the banner, i dont wear mine mostly because it blinds the crap out of me.

i do challenges because it gives me something to "go for."

had maxed manifest for awhile, so pretty much its just helping people, playing whatever i want, and doing challenges when i feel like it.

It was often fun using different kits and weapons, but the reward in itself isn't worth it. Just a banner I'm probably never going to use. They should've at least included an achievement with it.

I'm 4 promotions away from getting it - and I have 5 classes at level 20.

But I've been holding back, wanting to get a Platinum solo done before finishing the challenge. Damn wave 8 has always been my doom so far...

Was it worth it? Not really, considering that I got nothing tangible for the hours I've put in.

Did I have fun doing the challenges? Hell, yeah!!!
