As far as I know, there has been no official word so far, however there are several elements which point in this direction:

- The banner picture on this page being named "Finalchallengebanner.jpg
- The fact that promotional weapons have been added to the regular UR pool

Still, we can hope

Two
new challenges were added to Squad Elite as well, so people no longer
have to complete weekend challenges to get the banner.

With those hints on forthcoming weekend challenges, I guess we have come to the inevitable question -  how long would Bioware keep the MP servers online. What do you say?

I was hoping they would stay online long enough for me to get the BotB banner. How I wish I could make a T-shirt of it to deal with those depressing moments of life!

IMHO they will keep it going until the next installment, be it ME4 or something very close. There is a term in life, don`t cut off the hand that feeds you, it would be my opinion shear outrage if they were shut down in the near future which would have a very negative impact on ME4 sales.

Knowing EA, when they release a new game that starts making money.

Given that Galaxy At War (SP-integrated), matchmaking (can't possibly use much server power given its quality), and challenges/inventory (not much in terms of data) are the only things that seem to be actually server-based not peer-to-peer, I don't think it'd cost much to leave it running for ages. I mean, they still need some kind of online server for SP DLC authentication, they might as well put MP on it too.

On the other hand, these are the same people that gave us Origin so I don't think logic means much here.

The good thing with micro transactions is that it may keep the MP online for longer. So pretty much until it stops being profitable/it pays for last DLC.

You could also add in until the MT's pay for final patch (to patch the MP war assets in SP)

Blizzard quite special in that... OTOH, BW is/was one of the prominent e-sports out there, so there's more cause for that.

I think Halo 3's servers are still up, and that came out in '07, I believe.

Most likely until the next Mass Effect release.

They could very well leave it running for a long time.

It's usually based on how many people are still using them.

Yeah, and I don't think the XBL servers shut down more than two years ago.

Also so what 'if' weekend challenges are cancelled? Firstly has no bearing on new players who are clueless and majority do not visit bsn so non the wiser. Challenges are just a bonus and didnt have to happen. For those who only play weekends you can instead play anytime to unlock your promo weapons.
All people did was moan week after week as the challenges were pretty poor except for lodestar and now same people are upset as there might not be anymore?

At least 3 years, the GTA4 and COD4 servers are still up and they are ancient. Even 3+ year old sports games have their servers up, people panicking about ME3 servers shutting soon are crazy.

Oh and a PSN game called crash commando still has its servers running even though I have never seen more than 30 players online at a time and have once or twice been the only person on the server ... so yea.

Metal Gear Online 2 lasted over 4 years before Konami shut its' servers down. In the last few months it had about 500 or so players even after all that time, myself included.

Sports games are EA's bread and butter.

Everything else of theirs gets the axe faster than a lumberjack on meth.

I love how everyone keeps listing games with servers still running.  None of them are an EA game.  People are concerned because EA has been known to cut off their servers quickly.  One of the Lord of the Rings game had their servers shut off within eight months of release.  Yes, that game was horrible and had poor sells because of it.

Now, as long as people are playing and EA is making money.  The servers will be open.  But it's on US the PLAYERS to continue to play the game and buy packs for $$ and not in-game credits.
