/\\ I love how an example of an eagame is given of a flop game, what was your point exactly because me3 is anything but a flop or suffers frompoor sales.
now me3 on the Wii u is a different story as it should be shutdown as me3 has been a failure is sale figures.

At least 3 years, the GTA4 and COD4 servers are still up and they are ancient. Even 3+ year old sports games have their servers up, people panicking about ME3 servers shutting soon are crazy.

Oh and a PSN game called crash commando still has its servers running even though I have never seen more than 30 players online at a time and have once or twice been the only person on the server ... so yea.

I love how everyone keeps listing games with servers still running.  None of them are an EA game.  People are concerned because EA has been known to cut off their servers quickly.  One of the Lord of the Rings game had their servers shut off within eight months of release.  Yes, that game was horrible and had poor sells because of it.

Now, as long as people are playing and EA is making money.  The servers will be open.  But it's on US the PLAYERS to continue to play the game and buy packs for $$ and not in-game credits.

Eeeeeexactly!

And yet, there's a guy in another thread calling us idiots for spending real money. Image IPB

But yeah, activity on the servers is very key. Just keep playing, folks, and stop panicking. And if you have a few bucks to drop on a pack here and there, all that does is give EA positive reinforcement for ME MP.

Likely be shut down whenever Microsoft and Sony decide to shut down servers for 360 and PS3 games like Microsoft did for all original Xbox titles. Which won't be for a few years at the least.

I'd say EA can kiss my... for their horrible servers, CS and inaccurate wait-times (947 minutes, what?) but I love this game too much to not toss a few dollars here and there.

The ME3 master servers should have very low operating requirements. The challenge is that, since they are integrated into Origin, changes to that service will require someone to update the ME3 master server. And since Bioware and EA are businesses they would likely stop doing that when they don't see money in it.

ME3 games are hosted in a peer-to-peer fashion. The ME3 master servers store information about your inventory and the available lobbies (besides the authentication with Origin). So theoretically there are very low requirements for the ME3 server.

I personally run a TRIBES 1 master server after Sierra (now Activision) shut then down. Though all the TRIBES 1 master server does is tell clients what game servers are available. I doubt the ME3 servers have that much more overhead (minus authentication).

My thought was that maybe Origin games all share the same servers, so as long as people are using Origin for games then we can play ME3MP? After all, EA only provides game matching, as I understand it?:innocent:

On XBL, most games like CoD, Halo, and even co-ops like the Fable franchise continue to be playable for many years after newer editions come out.

My first online gaming experience was CoD: WaW, many years after Black Ops and the Modern Warfares were online.

EA is a different company, but after active balance changes have stopped, I could see it being quite a few years before the doors are closed on it.

But, then again, the microtransactions may well be the ultimate determining factor.

Which would mean everyone should be really nice to new players. :innocent:

Since BioWare's only other current game is The Old Republic and they have no releases scheduled this year, I'd look for them to keep the servers going probably until DAIII comes out next year.

There are a lot of new Games that are on the horizon in 2014
/ 15 ( I am not going to mention…)and many more first shooter that are already
exist but with out ME rich background, so I hope bioware not only keeps
multiplayer going but expends its maps to keep our interest. * Give them a
shout I hope they will listen*

Given that Galaxy At War (SP-integrated), matchmaking (can't possibly use much server power given its quality), and challenges/inventory (not much in terms of data) are the only things that seem to be actually server-based not peer-to-peer, I don't think it'd cost much to leave it running for ages. I mean, they still need some kind of online server for SP DLC authentication, they might as well put MP on it too.

On the other hand, these are the same people that gave us Origin so I don't think logic means much here.

I have said this in a few threads, but Star Craft still has servers running. For those who may not know it Star Craft is basicly a SP game with a MP part to it. Don't know exactly when it came out, but i believe it was before 95. Point being their servers are still running, so I can go back online to play it.

I hope BW/EA do something simular.

On a side note my internet went down last week, so I was offline for a few days. So I popped in ME3 SP. In game I went to the war room and checked my war assests. My TMS and EMS were at about 4000, and Readiness was at 100%. I hit the "X" button (x-box) and my Readiness was still at 100% while TMS and EMS went up to just over 9000. Mind you I was off line and had been off line for a few days. My readiness should have gone down.

I have seen no threads talking about this, and honestly I didn't look. But it seems to me that TMS, EMS and Readiness are no longer tied to the MP part of the game.

I think that EA will shut the servers down when it's no longer worth keeping them online like when the online population gets to low

What would they do with the servers anyways? I mean, it's not like there are any other Bioware games making money at the moment.

Yeah, sigh. People that mock the people who spend real money on packs just don't get that that is what is helping the game exist. Yes, number of players is good, if only because the larger the overall pool, the larger the amount of people that might buy a pack there is. Er, I'm slightly drunk. Did that parse at all?

So people spending money on packs, such as myself, are an important part of the MP player base. Just like the players that are super good and make speed run strategies and don't spend ANY money on packs. You need both to have a healthy game.

I think Halo 3's servers are still up, and that came out in '07, I believe.

Halo 2's pc version came out in 2007, the MP servers were shut down Feb this year.

Fun thing: they've postponed the shutdown to June to "look into other support options" or some such.
Probably unrelated but Halo 1-3 were in a list of Steam games from a recent-some-time-ago Steam update, and now have Community Hubs (though MS/343i claim this is not a thing at all, nope nope).
