I have exactly opposite opinion, I feel that Jennifer Hale puts emotions into her voice acting, while Mark Meer sounds just bored.
Opinions :D

I feel the other way. Mark Meer puts more emotion into his lines.

Look at how Mark says 'The Best' at the end of Citadel dlc and look at the way Jennifer says it. Jennifer version is fairly bland.

neither, they're both beyond repair. they sound worse than reading their lines aloud from a printed script copy.

IMO Hale is much, much better. I think Mark Meer was pretty poor throughout the series, but as a guy I enjoy playing male Shepard more.

Both are good, but for me Hale is canonshep going all the way back to ME1. She just IS Shepard to me but I have no beef with Meer most of the time in my maleshep playthroughs. My one complaint is that he sounds too nasal sometimes but no big deal.

Wait,
what? You're referencing CoD as an example of good voice acting? Of
portraying military servicemen in an believable and compelling manner?

Yeah, we're done here.[/quote]

Gratuitous hating. Even if you don't like the games, the voice acting worth noting.

Mark Meer. He just hits all the right notes for me, whatever scene he's in he always portrays the right emotions in his voice and always sounds engaged in his performance.

Not only did Mark do a great job of voicing Shepard but he also did a great job of voicing the vorchas and voluses throughout the game

Jennifer Hale, hands down. I really, really tried to play a male Shepard after my fourth female Shep, and I couldn't get past the first few mission. I love the guy, he's funny and he actually likes going to conventions and stuff, but as voice actor? No thanks

Liked Hale more for 1 and 2; she did overact at times but Meer underacted which I find worse. They're about equal by 3.

Whichever you one you like better.

I am partial to Meer. Probably my favorite video game VA.

I am partial to Jennifer Hale because I am female and always play a female character. I can never get in to playing a male character for RP. That being said I am sure that they both do an amazing job for those who like playing both. :)

I think the big thing is that Hale is better at sounding more neutral and more suited to the way Shepard is voiced in ME1 and ME2.  Meer didn't do bad in my opinion, but Hale is just more flexible at working with a character that is supposed to sound more neutral and make it appear more natural.  Her flaws are that she tends to overact in some scenes which is what Meer tends to be better at.

In my opinion, Meer works better with characters that have some sort of personality and quirks for him to know and work with.  It's why everyone thinks he does better in the latter two games than in ME1.  Shepard has more of a personality for Meer to work with in ME3 due to auto-dialogue which is why he was able to sound better than Hale at the more key emotional moments.  There are also more badass and humorous moments for Paragons and Renegades in ME3, which Meer is better at than Hale.

Truth be told I think they are about equal with each having strengths and weaknesses as a VA.  For most people, it's generally based on which they prefer playing as more.  I personally, like both Meer and Hale almost equally, but favor Meer a bit more due to me being male and wanting to play as male characters more often.

It's the one you like better. It's the who emotes most closely to the way you do. I've made one play as Sheploo, and the rest as femShep. I prefer Hale.

The problem is some of the spoken lines like "The best." for example wouldn't be spoken by a woman typically. IMO Hale should have improvised on that and said "Yes, we did (character name)." But that would have taken more scripting.

This is one of the problems when you have a male and female protagonist who is voiced speaking identical lines. Sometimes they don't work for both. Meer sounded absolutely awkward on some of the lines with Liara whereas Hale flowed on them. And at other times Hale sounded awkward speaking a line and Meer sounded better.

I think if they do these kind of scenes with the autodialog again, with the male and female protagonists (and I hope they do both again) that they give slightly different lines or allow the VA a little leeway with them.

So to say one is better than the other is just silly. Since I play femShep I obviously prefer Hale. i'm a huge fan of hers.

I have to go With Mark Meer.

In ME1, Hale was better
In ME2, i'd say they were more or less equal
But in ME3, Meer was clearly superior.

I think the best examples are the following:

Jokers bad joke

Meer:
Hale:

Stupid Jellyfish:

Meer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDLTVe8VJrE&t=0m6s
Hale: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDLTVe8VJrE&t=0m6s

"The best"

Meer:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXkSjOMJYDc&t=6m35s
Hale: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvbdTPw6XQc&t=8m52s

Again, just my humble opinion.  =]

You have meer's link twice for the jelly fish one

Yeah...not sure why women wouldn't say "The Best" either...

That said....I don't think women can get the "HMmph" just before Meer said it (what do you call that sound anyway...)..meer in that last word where it sounded like he was laughing but somewhat choked up and then "The Best" absolutely nailed it.

You cant really hear Hale's version and neither is it as natural sounding as Meer's.
