So, old companions I would like to see in a non companion role:
DA:O - Alistair, Leliana, Shale (Maybe), Morrigan (Not sure I want her to appear or not...)
DA:A - Sigrun, Nathaniel, Velanna (Maybe)
DA2 - Varric, Isabella, Merrill (Maybe)
Minor character I wouldn't mind seeing as companions:
DA:O - Cullen, Gorim, Jowan (Don't really feel strongly about any of these...)
DA:A - The Messenger, Serrani (What can I say, I like the idea of a Darkspawn related companion).
DA2 - Charade, Feynriel (Maybe), Cassandra
Either of the Witch Hunt companions would also be interesting to me.

What the crap? You want Carver back? really?i mean, you have the right to your own opinion and all- but personally he is my most hated
campanionperson in all of the games and the biggest reason why i hated the fact that you could not chose which sibling would survive.
Friendship Carver really grows as a person and becomes very cool imo. I really like him 100x more than Bethany.

From Awakening as party members: Velanna and Sigrun as LIs, thought they may be too older for the PC.
From 2 as party members: Tallis as a non-romancable companion who is Hawke's LI, if she was the only one they romanced, or the other one they romanced died at the end of the game (you could only kill Anders, out of all the LI-possible companions). Possibly Sebastian, but not as a possible LI - romanced by Hawke or not.
From Origins as cameos: Morrigan, Zevran, Sten, Shayle (non-golem), Leliana (she's gonna be in it anyway), Alistair and Dog (with the Warden). All depending on choices and/or whether or not the DLC was bought, but if it's a pre-defined import game, then DLC companions should be automatically in it.
From Awakening as cameos: Anders (if alive), Velanna, Sigrun and maybe Justice. Also, Mhairi (no, only joking). Mhairi's Ghost should get a cameo.
From 2 as cameos: Varric, Isabela, Sebastian, Merrill, Fenris, Bethany, Carver and Dog (with Hawke).

other characters I'd like to see: Morrigan, Shale, Varric, Nathaniel, Justice/Vengeance, Oghren, Velanna, Aveline and Merrill. I don't want small cameos where they just show up and give me a line or two of dialogue before disappearing. Now if they played slightly important roles like Aveline becoming a guard captain in Orlais that gives a long string of quests and even joins you for a couple of them then that would be okay.

SPOILER ALERT! Wynne dies in Dragon Age: Asunder. So she will not be coming back in DA: I. END SPOILER!

Thank heaven I didn't kill Anders if that turns out to be the case. My Hawke was too much of a flirt not to have fun with comments, but getting stuck with her post game? I would flip a table.

Wait, so BW's book canon is more important that people's game canon?
Nice

No. That isn't the case at all.
If your game happens to allow the book canon, then I imagine the book's events will be mentioned in your game pretty much in tact. If you're game DOESN'T allow the book canon, I imagine there'll be changes to what happens to that story and those changes will be mentioned in your game. Bioware has said they'll never make it MANDATORY to read the books to understand what happens, and if any 'book events' come up they will properly be mentioned and explained. So if you killed Wynne in your canon game, then the events will be changed to reflect that, though I imagine the core events with her son and the war and such will remain.
Edit: typos, typos everywhere.

So you say. And so they said.
Yet Leliana is alive, even though some people killed her in DAO, because BW wants her to be. Anders could have died at the end of DAA, yet he's alive and well in DA2. He could never have been recruited, yet he's a GW. He may never have met Justice, yet he's possessed by him in DA2. See where I'm going here?
Wynne died in this book (that I have not read, and have no desire to read, having slogged through Stolen Throne and being unable to get that time back in my life) . . .will she appear in DAI? And if not, wil the reason be because she died in the book, or because she "doesn't fit the story"?

I think they explained both Leliana and Ander's appearances (or reappearances, as the case might be) rather well, considering, but that's my opinion. Asunder is also a fantastic read, but that's my opinion again. All I can say is what I've seen Bioware say, and I'm willing to forgive some handwaving in the case of Origins, as I'd bet they didn't have a sequal in mind back then unlike now. *shrug*

I hated DA2 Anders and I took care of it by sticking a knife in him. Other than that I despise Merrill and I will be happy to never see her again!
So that is my list!

I'd like Wynne too, but I hear that ship has sailed, which is a pity. She was awesome. It was like having my favorite librarian slinging spells with me.
