I'm having trouble adding content to the Hak file I have created for my Al-Qadim mod. I have Hakpacker and the 2Da Tabular and TLK editor. It shouldn't really be a problem, right?
No because I keep running into issues that vary from exporting stuff from SotZ into my mod where I break the SotZ campaign.
I've combined adobe houses with Mazteca temples.
I've combined creatures from RWS creatures with creatures from another custom content provider.
All the content is awesome and I want to use it all but cordinating it is a headache.
I have a really wonderful tale to tell, but all the technical stuff makes me worried I'll develop an adventure that is going to crap out someone's computer.
So I was thinking...
Wouldn't it be nice if someone who is wise to what the community offers and who undestands the .HAK, .TLK, .BMU stuff and who can combine the
Combining it all into one .HAK would certaintly be a memory drain, but if the .HAK files were categorized by lore then it would be easier for any builder that feels torn between learning scripting/model artist/HAK filer/conversation writer etc etc.
I could see the HAK categorized in very basic themes such as:
Underdark.hak
Alqadim.hak
greyhawk.hak
karatur.hak
dragonlance.hak
forgottenrealms.hak
darksun.hak
torment.hak
I'm probably missing a few

I suggest logging in to the Tales of Amn persistent world and looking at how they handles Athkatla using the RWS Adobe hak, which includes things like arabic style arches. Without someone making custom content for you, that's about the best you're going to be able to do in terms of placeables. Path of Evil goes to Calimshan early on, but there's really only so much that can be done.

I have only played ALFA persistent world, but in looking at the screenshots of Tales of Amn it looks like I'd appreciate it.
I hope this post doesn't make me sound ungrateful and I will post an outline with pictures of my [WIP].
It's come a long way since 6 years ago when I started it and I think the community would be happy with how I've been able to make some really beautiful scenes with all they have provided. Please excuse me if I seemed ungracious.

You could simply not create a custom .hak. keep the haks separate and allow the player to download the ones they need to play your mod. It save cluttering thier hard drive with repeated information in different custom .haks and save you a headache too

My original motivator to combining the parts of the mod I needed was to make it easier for the player to erase the hak if they want to. If what you are saying is that it will hurt the player anyway then I should rethink my actions.
On the other hand the hak is nearly complete I just need to fix the 2Da and organize it to fit ALL the content. It might be easier to start from scratch though.

Creating a Hak is a headache because of the 2DA files. I remember why I had to make one. Partly the adobe wouldn't work with whatever placeable other hak I had on there.

It wouldn't hurt me. The way you're planning it (a single combined hak) is my preference, for the exact reason you mention.
