Thanks to Phil's hard dose of reality, I'm starting to get pretty worried about the direction BioWare will take because of Citadel's success. I've attached a link to the article below; thoughts on it are very welcome.

Phil's an idiot. Citadel is a love letter from the developers to the players. It was great on nearly every level. All games and DLCs should be made with that much love. Its a great sign for the future.

I don't think it's common courtesy to pick up a pile of sh*t, run up to someone with it, and yell "Hey! Smell how bad this is!"

So please keep this out of here.

I couldn't disagree with him more.

Citadel is deliberately, tongue-in-cheek cheesy as thank-you and a farewell to ME and its fans. Nothing about it says to me BioWare want to move away from trying to tell deeper and more meaningful stories in future games.

Is it? I have only seen brief moments of it, and he´s right about the joke abuse. And Shep throwing a party makes no sense. Disagree with his comment about happy endings though. The point with the DLC is that it further twists the knife. That´s how the ending retroactively ruins what came before.

His article reeks of "this is bad and you should feel bad".  I have little interest in his ramblings.  I liked it, that's all I need to know.

It struck me as an 'enjoy the day, for tomorrow we may very well all be dead' kind of scenario.  Made perfect sense to me.

I made it as far as;

I kind of dislike Mass Effect 3‘s Citadel DLC. And if you like it — you might frustrate me.

I get the impression he was about to frustrate me.

Apparently, I was off on my assumption about this one. I'm pleasantly surprised

"it was the ending’s total abandonment of established themes and characterization that made it bad. It didn’t feel like Mass Effect and it didn’t stay true to the journey heretofore experienced by players."

Pretty much. BUT DON'T SAY BAD THINGS! Because then you are:

1. Unimaginative
2. Too negative
3. Won't get a pre-release version of the game to review now (if you are a game reviewer)

Oh snap! Quick! Someone get some money in here so the author can get this all changed up to read Citadel DLC is teh awesum, BioWare listens to fans!

If you read the thing, you might not agree that it applies to Citadel, but it is a pretty smart point. Particularly to bash some nonsense cult fan who thinks this is about happy endings (the straw man here).

that dude is a dumb**! seriously they do something nice and give the ME2 characters more content like the fans asked and made a great dlc and he complains about it. the reason the dlc was this way was because they wanted to end on a happier note and to give the fans what they want (besides the ending). it shows they are willing to listen to fans. OP don't listen to him. and for the record I was one of the people who HATED the endings and was depressed for months so I am not a blind bioware follower

I do not even find any legitimate criticism in what he has written, so why should I listen to him? Just think it feels like he has written it "just because" and just sets fokus and find the bad parts "just because"

I'm so full of darky artsy integrity that I thought the dlc was fun and entertaining. Sure the jokes didn't hit the mark everytime but it was good fanservice.

It doesn´t end in a happier note. You still go, meet Starbrat, and end the war on its terms. Have you tried keep on playing after the DLC through the end? If you enjoyed the endings I guess it´s fine, but if you didn´t, well, try and see if it feels any different.

Actually, I see what he's saying. And I definitely agree that whilst it may be good in it's own right (though in ways it isn't. Sorry, can't get behind the clone thing) it really doesn't work as a part of ME3. Actually, I should clarify and say I haven't actually played it, but I've Youtubed it, and it really doesn't seem to gel with the rest of the game.

I don't think a bit of fan pandering is a bad thing, but this DLC seems to be 90% fan pandering. It's kind of an easy way out, you know? The thing is, it doesn't fix many of the perceived issues with ME3. ME3's plot had problems and Citadel doesn't do anything to show that the writing could even have been better. Strip away the pandering and it's more of the stuff that was wrong with ME3's writing. So I'd hope the lesson learned isn't that you can write whatever foolishness you want if you don't take it seriously.

Yeah, I don't agree. If anything, I like this "direction", because the Citadel DLC had easily some of the best content in the entire trilogy and I really, really liked the interactions with the squadmates, which is the prime reason for me to play Mass Effect. Story comes second.

This DLC is a farewell to the fans of Mass Effect and I think it delivers on that front. The only thing that'd make it even better would be if it was accessible after the ending or outright became one without including a kind of head-canon.

It also includes things that people have asked for since ME2 or even before that. If anything, this DLC was practically made to pander to the fans.

Sure, there were a lot of jokes, but you know what? It's a shore leave. It's meant for people to relax and have fun. If they're throwing in a little humor in the action, I think that's just good, because it lightens up the mood.

It doesn't mean that BioWare will always do that.

He's right in that it is fanservice. But as a fan, I'm ok with that.

Checkbox of ME3 complaints that this dlc addressed, just off the top of my head:

ME3 didn't have a boss fight, check.

We didn't see our squad fight, check.

ME3 lacked closure with our friends, check.

Spend more time with LI, check.

Bioware didn't call this a post-ending dlc, but essentially it was. The Citadel was almost oblivious to the Reaper war. People who hated the ending aren't going to play that again. They are just going to play this dlc, and this will be the lasting memory.

Ending the series is not the same thing as 'The Ending.' It was one last farewell to the characters we knew and loved over the trilogy. Two entirely different things.

Well I recently decided to buy Citadel dlc, so I will be back in a few days to say whether or not I agree with this review, as it stands currently, I agree.
