I know nothing outside of my own experience, and have never ran into issues making the .MODs.
I open Modmaker, open Texplorer, enable ModMaker Mode and go about replacing textures in Texplorer. When you navigate to a texture you can double-check the extension in Texplorer (there is option in the right-click dropdown), so you're sure you are saving it right. I personally use Photoshop and have no experience with Gimp so wouldn't know of any inherent problem with it if there is one. On average textures seem to be DXT1, specs DXT5. Normals at 16bit V8U8 through the Direct-X Texture Tool. If it's an issue with format though, it'd toss up a warning when trying to replace the texture rather than when trying to actually save the job AFAIK. Anyways, if you can't figure it out, go ask them at the ME3Explorer forums =)


I ended up getting it sorted out with a combination of saltisgood tutorials and trial-and-error.  None of the tutorials I was finding really directly applied to what I was doing and had steps that were inapplicable and also lacked fine details.  I redid a skin texture, completely replaced the skin's normal map, and generated a specular map for it...but there is generally small bits of missing information in many tutorials. 

Thanks anyway.  Now if I can recall the trial-and-error parts I may be able to duplicate the process.  I created a patch and patched my game with the changes but haven't yet played it to see if it totally crashes the game, looks bizarre, or other).

The game textures/resolution are set for consoles, so they are down sampled.  They released it as everyone gets the same output - limited to console - rather than give the user the ability to increase resolution of textures and polygon count.

I'm not sure of any game that actually increases the amount of polygons that are used in the models.

^^Tomb Raider is one example. It uses tessellation on many objects and characters (assuming that you have DX11 feature level hardware).

Obviously but it shouldn't have to be like this, Mass Effect series is a fine example of almost direct port. At least when next generation consoles hit the stores, we PC gamers don't have to suffer from mobile phone grade graphics.

Ottemis: have you strictly focused on textures of have you ever tried playing with the body meshes of any characters? Or do you know of anyone who has? At the moment I've pulled Ashley's body mesh (default uniform) out and am trying to make minor alterations to see if I can then put it back into the game...

Aight! N7 recolour is finito. Upside to doing an actual retexture, recolours are fast due to PDF layers sexytimes.

By request I'll be releasing one version with a Silver Gauntlet, one with a Red Gauntlet.
I'll update the OP with more pictures as soon as the files are uploaded.

I don't know.  Were the changes you made large or subtle?  My test is doing things like seeing if I can reduce Ashley's breast size a little, reduce the butt size...a little.  I'm not trying to make big changes so I am hoping it will work.

And here's Liara's From Ashes Armor, still a WiP though, but I'll make this colour-scheme available for Shepard as well. Will probably release both tomorrow, bedtime for me now.
