I've never even seen anyone be bullied online, let alone been bullied myself, and, honestly, getting worked up over threats and insults like that is overreacting just a bit. If it was on Facebook, they might have a small point (the bullies would know who you are and where you live, and *might,* in a one in a million chance, do something completely crazy that may actually harm someone) but online and on games? Please. They can't even know what COUNTRY you're from unless you tell them, so those threats really cannot hurt you in any conceivable way, and any names that you get called cannot affect you unless you let them. So, actually, no, it's not a big deal. I mean, like all nastiness, it would be nice if it stopped, but there's just no reason to overreact this much.

Exactly. Just because one is anonymous seems to encourage bullying. It just shows that they are really cowards. Is it because of the age group? I mean, do Xbox/psn players tend to be of a lower age group?

I have been on pc and so far all I have encountered was the occasional kick or some sarcastic remark. I guess I have been lucky.
To the bullied : stay strong. Don't let them get into your head.

I have dealt with bullies before when I was growing up. At least they had the courtesy to show their face. And me courteously shoving it up their a**. The more you allow them to bully you, the more people they will attack. Nip it in the bud I say.

But in this world of anonymity in the net that would be a hard fight.....

I'm too old to put up with online bullying in ME3, there was one guy who called me a pre-pubescent boy? Said I sounded like I liked to suck the D with my high pitched pre-pub boy voice and went down the you must be gay path.

I'm a 32 year old woman, so my friend and I proceeded to laugh at him until he stopped talking and creamed his arse in score. Then I befriended him and continued to invite him to matches only to destroy him over and over until he basically blocked me.

Fun times.

ME3 MP is a kindergarten compared to PVP games like COD, Dota etc.

As a gay gamer I've received my fair share of hatemail and abuse over the mic, ME3 multiplayer not so much because most people don't use mics unless they're playing with friends. Unfortunately I've reported quite a number of people who can't seem to keep their mouth shut, I don't like hearing racial slurs or sexist remarks or LGBT slurs coming out of my tv screen, I know it doesn't mean much on XBL to report people because they don't even let you put what was specifically being said, but I just hope one day people get some kind of ramification from the bile they spew.

I've never experienced anything too egregious on PS3, but I still think the lack of a mute feature was a glaring omission. Most angry teammates are content to just shoot or melee me for a few waves.

Even without your picture I would guess you to be a heterosexual white male. I really only see them make comments like these for the most part. 

Granted this seems to be uncommon in the ME3 pool of players. 
After going back an reading the posts made by other people who I assume to be in this category as well I realize I am apparently quite wrong. The misogny in this thread and complete lack of understanding of feminist critiques make my head spin.

I'm not even going to bother arguing with you, the ignorance in this post already makes me realize it's pointless. 

Most of the 'bullying' that goes on is really nothing out of the ordinary. Name-calling, rudeness - it's all talk. Cyber bullying is probably a lot tamer actually, since that person can't physically harm you at all. And if they are in a position to do something like order 20 pizzas to your doorstep, it's usually because you've put yourself in a position where they could find your address, but even then, that's the kind of thing that you can report to the police and stop in an instant if you feel like it.. Again, if someone can harass you over the net, it probably isn't anything somebody in real life couldn't do to you if they wanted.

Honestly, best thing to do is not to 'feed the troll'. Don't reply back. Don't call them pathetic. Don't say they're beneath you. This is one problem that actually does go away if you ignore it.

Indeed. And videogame politics discussion does not belong here. Yes, there's a certain amount of trash-talking in cooperative and competitive online gaming, but when you cease to show respect for the people you're playing with and start in with the personal remarks, offensive humour, and misogyny, homophobia, racism, or other hate, you're bullying, and that's wrong. Report bullying on your console's social system, and speak out against such behaviour. Thank you.
