I have had multiple people rage at me for no apparent reason... I just ignore them and block communications. Gotta love that wonderful Xbox feature!

Also... upinya slayin: A few of the people raging for no reason were on ME3

lol some people are immature but the % seems to be low on ME3 compared to other games

Yes.

The majority of the population of ME3 players (On Xbox at least) seem to be:
1. People who don't use mics
2. Drunk (Gotta love the hilariousness that ensues)
3. Generally polite.

i've met some really cool people on my FL through them being randoms on ME3 MP. before i was on team arelex or BSN much. i still play with most of them too even on other games. i've even met some BSNers as randoms w/o knowing they were BSNers and freinded them. like twinkles :wub:

By the way, here's a small text about this by Cliffy B, it's really worth reading IMO: http://kotaku.com/59...g-needs-to-stop

Just watched the video that I posted in the thread.
It's quite shocking.

Sure you can mute those people, but when someone says "You're a dirty ****. I'm gonna rape you". It leaves an uncomfortable feeling inside. You don't forget the rape and death threats.

Unacceptable is unacceptable.

Also don't anyone use the excuse "boys will be boys".
I've meet "rowdy boys". Not one of those "rowdy boys" thought it was okay to treat a female like that.

Sorry, that video got me worked up.

i commented on the video

also guys complain there arne't enough female gamers...then harass the few that are there lol:whistle:

i think ME3 has a more mature playerbase and less of this to deal with. its not halo or COD
I've rarely encountered anything like that on ME3.

ME3 doesn't promote competitive edge. No need to be hostile.

I would have thought that about PvE stuff.

but people on WoW's PvE are pretty damn hostile.

Yeah, I'v played WoW for 6 years -- PvE relies so much on your raid members, that if they slack you just can't help but whip your elitist peen around.

I wish I could remember how many death threats I got when I used to play Mw2.

Good times.

Internet is a part of reality.
But I see where you're coming from. One should be able to be more thick skinned when recieving insults.

It's inevitable that people will spew hurtfull remarks in an attempt to provoke a reaction.
If you react, you feed the bully thus making the abuse worse.

Bullies need to grow up.
Victims need to find better ways of coping with the bullying or at the very least find ways of combating the bullying as opposed to provoking it.

This. This. For the love of THIS!!!

CoD and Halo are breeding grounds for Racists, Death Threats, Poor communication, and a whole list of bad things.

I think the fact that me3 mp is a co-op mp really curbs the abusive talk.
At least this has been my experience, When ever I played pvp type games the verbal abuse is terrible and fairly constant.
Co-op seems to be verbal abuse towards the AI controlled enemies.Even I'm guilty of shouting (even when I'm not on voice chat) horrible things I'm going to do to the banshees or praetorians when getting executed by them, that I would never even think to utter to ANY other human being, via voice, text, or face to face.

And I think people really need to take a stand against other if they catch them doing it.

A lot of this stuff is snot-nosed teenage boys being mixed up with girls and adults (sorry teenage boys, but you guys are by far the biggest offenders). Teenage boys are in the rebellion stage, ie. the "being a jerk just because" stage.

Personally, I'm waiting to see online games introduce some sort of optional age segregation (optional for adults that is). Random kids and adults just don't usually interact on the same level. It'll probably never happen though.

Games that have a Multiplayer like Mass Effect 3 and Borderlands the Community tends to be more mature since the goal is team work for the most part, games like Halo, CoD, and Battlefield are more Competitive and that goes to peoples heads.

Look, if you guys have noticed my other recent posts, I'm in a good mood so I'm going to post one more time here and try to remain out otherwise.

I haven't watched the video (I'm on a work computer), but it's sort of unfair for men to come in and say that we, particularly women, shouldn't care what other people say to us on the internet, and I say that as someone who is particularly thick-skinned in these regards.

As a woman, I can tell you that, while it might seem easy enough to say that one should just shrug off anything said at us in a video game, it's not so easy when the threats are a real life worry for me. Yes, men get raped as well. But men do not (generally, anyway) have to: Carry their keys between their fingers in case they get jumped. Take a different path home to avoid the vicinity of the local bar or frat house or what have you. Bring a change of clothing for when returning home from a party because your skirt is short enough that it might be considered "inviting". Reconsider a male friend as a designated driver. Be sure you have your whistle on your keychain.

Yes, obviously, the **** who says such bull**** to me in a video game isn't about to actually do it in real life. But I game to get away from RL BS, and unfortunately these are all things that women think about on a daily basis in real life. It feels very different to be threatened with something that's obviously hyperbolic, versus something that I am always aware of the danger of.

Also, it's worth pointing out that being obviously female online opens you up to very, very different comments and threats. There's a reason I use a non-gendered username, and most women do not use their microphones.

its nto about getting butthurt. most people play games to have a good time/relax/unwind from things like work and other life stress (bills relationships etc) nobody can have fun when ebing harassed the whole time. its not scary its annoying and ruins the fun of playing the game IMO

It's especially bad in the LFR tool.

It also tends to be a bit worse when somebody mistakes me for a girl, since my Shaman is a female Draenei(I really hate how the males look and it was the only race option when I made the character).

I'm also told that my use of emoticons does not help me, since apparently it's not very "manly", or something like that.

i really dont think someone is going to researche where you live and kill you over a video game incedent.... only if you tell them where you live

no option to mute players on PC. It'd be nice though. Me3 multiplayer is largely civil. I've only encountered two or three unpleasant experiences and considering the anonymity of online play, that's pretty good. B)

Not quite where I was going.

I was trying that bullies love to see their victims respond with angry comments.
So if the victims respond, the bullies will feel encouraged to continue.
If the bully is ignored they often stop.

If the bully continues despite being ignored, there are means of combating them.

XBOX Live has a mute function.
You can block the bully.
You can report them.

It is not the victims fault if they get bullied.
Let me repeat myself: It is not the victims fault if they get bullied.
But a victim can make things worse for themselves depending on how they react to the bullying.

This is no different to how you deal with bullies at school.
Same situation. Same methodology.

Go figure a co-operative game fosters co-operative behavior.

The only bullying I saw was when a host refused to start a game because a low level N7 vanguard was playing Silver. So I gladly ruined his lobby with anime micspam.

But it is FAR less annoying/stupid kid like than Battlefield 3. It is just as bad as COD.

As I said in my post, I hold no true fear that someone on the internet is going to track me down and carry out their threats on me. Regardless, it stirs the same instincts that I maintain in real life, which defeats the entire purpose of gaming and having fun.

ME3 has a wonderful community that is very mature, helpful, and nice. I can't say the same for really any other games, and for the most part the best thing I can say is that thank god most people don't communicate on PC anyway.

Trolling, not quite bullying.

Trolling is just being annoying in a funny manner.
Bullying is going out of your way to make someone angry/upset.

People on PC rarely talk anyway. Hell I have a mic and I only chime in occasionally, like "watch out, turret" or something brief.
