I generally put volume nearly off whenever I play (mainly to not disrupt anyone in the household)! I made the mistake of just using my real name for a PS3 ID -- obviously female. Haven't had problems yet but don't play much multiplayer (Wipeout HD = much fun!)

I'd certainly leave immediately if I heard anything offensive.

If you can't take a bit of smack talk get off the internet.

I'm not excusing the perpetrators, but you need to realise people are going to talk a bit of smack online. Take it too seriously and it's your problem.

I didn't watch the whole thing but everyone knows that the threats are meaningless.  The worst I have done is tell low level players to leave my platinum lobbies.  They then get mad and stay then I leave 2 seconds after the game starts just so I waste their time.

Feh, people like to report me on X-Box for "trash talk" and "aggression". Neither of which I do. If I do talk I talk normally. And my "aggressiveness" is killing the enemy AI dead.

I think some people are just getting mad that I actually have some skill at the game and can out perform them.

But running into "bullies"?, no, I would find that funny to run into some into some more internet tough guys though. Like the dude who threatened to gut me like a pig with a knife if he ever saw me. Or this other guy who threatened to break every bone in my body. And such stuff like that. Big words from little boys.

I never really understood the Xbox rep system... I have over 50% in trash talk and about 23% in Overly Aggressive.

I make it my goal when gaming to never be the guy trashtalking/putting down/insulting anyone for any reason, even if they are doing that to me.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm mean back to nasty people. Hell, that's why some people hate me so much. I'm a jerk. But under normal circumstances, I'm a pretty cool guy whose only in it to play. I'll shoot the breeze with my friends and all. But, I don't make myself obnoxious while playing.

So yeah, it utterly confuses me that people are reporting me for playing the game.

I mean this one day, I ran in as my Ex-Cerberus Vanguard as the Cerberus troops were marching out the front of Giant. And I utterly wasted them with smash and melee. He's specced for health, ditched biotic charge, makes him pretty mean especially in my hands. And that entire game, I'm playing as hard as I can. We win, no sweat. Didn't say a word either

Then, boom, someone reported me.

That system just seems so easy to abuse. I remember how my one friend got reported for killing a little kid in Modern Warfare by the kid's mom. And X-box actually contacted him and WARNED him. Though, he got out of that, cause he knows some legal stuff and threatened them over it.

Still, it's a really dumb system.

Yes, it's the victims fault they're being "bullied". What a beautiful fantasy world you must live in.

Yeah, women are being raped and decapitated by machete wielding maniacs in the Congo Jungle every day...

...And you want me to take someone seriously who's upset that people posted swearey words on their youtube videos?

First world white women on the internet problems. Don't read comments, don't allow comments... it is NOT a big deal. Get over it. Complete anonymity gives people a license to behave like d*ckheads. Understanding this is the first crucial step towards immunising yourself to internet vitriol.

Keep in perspective exactly what is being said. She's not being attacked by crazed African militia men, she's being trolled on the internet by people who are posting stuff on her youtube video that they would never dream of saying to you in real life.

Keep some perspective on the matter please?

A sign of pettiness, excusing ****** poor behavior to justify your apathy because someone else, somewhere, has it worse, to which you will do nothing about either.

Its not about one women's youtube site, its about a culture.

I guess the lack of text chat on PC and the lack of people actually talking on mic helps the lack of bullying quite significantly. I rarely use the mic myself, especially in random games where noone else is talking. But I have to say that I've never really encountered this problem in general. I don't think I've ever gotten any personal threats. Some comments about my playstyle maybe, but nothing too bad.

EDIT: Forgot to say that the Mass Effect community in general seems to be really freindly, at least in my experience.

Yeah, the mother must have sent in some kind of false report. But, this sort of thing isn't so uncommon. You should check out the many rage videos on youtube centered around these style of games. It gets really sad.

I mean if that was ME, and my mother caught me doing that kind of crap when I was a boy. She would have probably taken my console and put it in a pillow case and beat me with it and then buried me on some random hill. But alas days long gone when parents actually disciplined their children.

But seriously, she would have tanned my hide if I acted like those brats.

No, my point is I was raised by my parents to ignore people who talk BS. I extrapolate this to encompass the people who do so online too.

I didn't say their behaviour was appropriate. I said she needs thicker skin... People misbehave. In real life, on the internet... and the best answer is to ignore it. Respond to it, and show that it bothers you and you are giving the person exactly what they want.

I am apathetic towards people who clearly are much too naive for the world they live in.

If you seriously get offended by anything that anybody says on the internet, you need to grow a spine.

And yes, that includes you if you complain about racism, homophobia, or sexism on the internet. Who CARES what some random guy thinks?

Sticks and stones.
