Can't say I've ever encountered anything inappropriate playing ME3. It kinda bugged me seeing the poster in that video. As far as online games go, ME has the most polite people I've played with by far. It also has a higher number of female gamers playing it than CoD or Halo. I'm not big into MP though so I don't have a big sample to draw from.

I should make a video about how that quoting pyramid somewhere above me is bullying toward my eyes. Everything is bullying these days, right?

I've recieved hatemail once for "stealing" some shadows kills. His fault for shadow striking the targets I just finished energy draining to snipe so I just blocked him. Other than that special person this community has been pretty good, unlike other games...

Ontopic, I have never had a negative experience in ME3 MP besides being kicked, which was way more apparent in the early days of the games release.

The Mass Effect community on Xbox is actually quite pleasant, while its rare to find people who talk, when they do its not trash talk.

I think the PC community in ME3 is pretty decent. I've certainly never come across anything abusive on sexist, racist etc grounds personally.

Gaming in general is still rife with masculine posturing and bravado, full of male teenagers who can't begin to grasp that their "bastion" is no such thing. It has an unfortunate impact on the culture of gaming, and how it treats women. However, on the positive side of things, I see this trend (slowly) changing as more and more male gamers accept and adjust to the fact there are also plenty of women who play, and they deserve to be treated as equals.

You're bullying that quote pyramid.

And you're bullying me! And I'm a woman, which makes it worse

Poor guys, no one ever stands up for them in these kind of videos :?

Most being would have had a few insults thrown at them when making a mistake in game but i have never had any real bullying. You want bullying try COD! lol I have walked into some pretty nasty games though which is usually hilarious to an extent.

There was a time when I took this personally. Eventually I just learned that people actually focus on women as victims more than men because men are supposed to be strong and stand up, whereas women supposedly don't have anyone else sticking up for them.

Yeah i think the trend is changing, too.  I liked the observation the poster made a few pages ago with the story about the girl guild leader having guys compete for her attention.  I think you see that a lot more than any bullying.  Back in my L4D days the girl players always got special treatment and had dudes that'd follow them around protecting them, giving them health packs whenever they needed, etc.  It got to the point where i seriously contemplated pretending to be a girl so i'd get the special treatment as well. lol.

That trend confuses the hell out of me, because feminists will talk about how women deserve to be made more independent while demanding that everyone spoon feeds them.

The only problem with this way of thinking is how male victims of abuse view themselves. In the military the majority of sexual assaults are actually male on male. They also go unreported because men have a stigma about what happened to them and fear public perception.

There will never be true equality as long as we identify and protect only certain groups of people. Everyone else is then excluded and feels like they don't have the same level of respect, protection, or validation.

Everyone has the same capacity for strength. Everyone has the same ability to stand up for themselves. Everyone can sit and say " I wish a mothertrucker would!" No one really knows how they will react or feel when the situation is truly upon them.

Negative. There can be no retreat. No retreat. No stepping back. No stepping forward and no destroying Reaper forces.

Heh, really lucky to have not experienced any of those in the games I've played.

I can only count 1 time in my whole 11 months of playing MP that someone had the trouble to get on the mic and call me a "noob" HAHA
ME3 PC is... really... quiet.

But ever since I've been playing online games or just being on the internet in general, you get numb to these kinds of things and just ignore them. No one deserves what happened to the girl in the video though, regardless of gender or agenda.

+1 to Dunvi there and Stikman. Kinda agree with Drunkencelt too.

Screw you, you made me go watch that video :P

I don't get that trend either, I see feminists like that reaper: "It is not a thing you could comprehend" and they end it like that, they don't even try to explain

The few people in the nonstandard 'victim' groups who do say anything generally fall into 3 categories: they get ridiculed, they get ignored, or they make so much of an issue out of it that it lessens the message.

The societal beliefs as a whole make so many issues for all different kinds of actual problems. While the more-recent focus on bullying has made many people speak out loudly (sometimes to the detriment of the cause), the way of thinking that everyone should fight back or suck it up (even women) hasn't exactly had a great track record; people just ignored what the actual effects were.

I am starting to notice something.

In my life, i have had the pleasure of having a diverse array of friends, ranging form various backgrounds, ethnicity, and genders.

The most prevailing narrative I have heard when developing my relationships with women, platonic and intimate, have been one of sexual mistreatment. Many of the females I have met (i grew up in a middle upper class neighboorhood, area/town and have lived in densely urban populated areas and in other countries as well) have entrusted me enough to share their experiences of sexual assault. Some happened as children, others happened as adolescents, and a few as adults.

I am starting to question as to whether or not Stardusk and the like have ever had the opportunity to actually develop a relationship, platonic or intimate, with multiple women who share those deeply personal feelings and experiences.

Then i start wondering if they actually lack the emotional capacity for a women to even share with them in the first place, which begets the idea that they may never have had an emotionally involved relationship (again, platonic or intimate) with a woman.

Being able to handle someone calling me a retard online does not mean I lack emotional capacity.

I'm wondering how you handle being unable to take even the slightest insult without bursting into tears.
