Pugs require patience, once in the lobby have a look at n7 to see if possibly new, challenge points to see how much played and the main factor, loadout. If you don't like what you see or have a bad feeling, bailout.
Remember you would rather spend 10-15mins going lobby to lobby rather than risk a game that on paper isnt going to end well.
Also a lot of people are playing less so friends are less an option, pugs are now a norm so more good players around.

I love PUG's!
Hell, we all are Pug's or else we couldn't complain about them. I enjoy playing with the excellent & experienced people on my friends list, but lets face it... PUG's are always there.
* Want a quickie? PUG!
* Want a challenge? PUG!
* Bronze, Silver, Gold? PUG!
* Platinum?
Find your friends!
They will cost you consumables, but man you never know what you will get match to match.

I only play play platinum PuG's. It is usually Rio/Reapers because it is easiest to find, but after dozens of games there, I have yet to see a match where the box is used for more than a few seconds to avoid Banshees. Getting past the wave 10 objective is probably 10/10, with the occasional off game, and extraction is 9/10.
In the 3 weeks I have been back, I have been able to get a good chunk of the items I was missing after being gone for 6 months.

I still play with PUGS, sometimes friends aren't available or are in with other friends. Sometimes when I don't feel like chatting I PUG, matches go waaaaay too smoothly with pals and PUG games generally can be very interesting/challenging at times which can only make you a better player. Playing with PUGS I learned to carry better if need be.

I like gold PUGs. They are funny. I always accept an invite if I'm alone, so I don't do it very often.

i do play pugz... i only play pugz. i'm not good at this friends stuff. carried a N7 level 1 guy that dropped into my plat match yesterday to victory. not gonna lie, was very annoyed with him through out the match until it was over and i saw what i was dealing with. laughed and told him to enjoy the credits (then looked for a new pug).

OP, your thread title asks why i DON'T play with PUGS. which would disqualify me from contributing because i do play with PUGS. but in your post, you ask why i don't WANT to play with PUGS... there are already many good reasons posted for doing it and for not doing it. however, as it was recently stated, you can really learn to carry which can help your gameplay with ppl you actually want to play with.

I play Gold PUGs all the time. That is how I met 90% of the friends I play with. It is also a good way to get better.

I play less with PUGs then in the past because of their refusal to use equipment and medi-gel. Their is no excuse to not have at least lvl 1 stuff and medi-gel since Jumbo Packs have been become permanent in the RNG store. The "but I am saving my credits for PSPs" does not work.

I either leave the lobby or try to kick them if they do not use equipment whatsoever. But before kicking or leaving I try to communicate via a message (Xbox) or mic if thats plugged in. If all attempts at negotiation fails then they will get a X vote by their name or I leave the lobby
I do not feel its unreasonable to ask them to equip a permenant gear bonus item. Doesnt cost them anything.

I play with them, although now I've been soloing more than playing with others. I guess I'm antisocial.

LOL, your poll has failed. I call Poll Fault.
... I PUG about 50% of the time. Sometimes it's just easier to rattle off two random games. PUGs I'm in rarely fail.

I dont. They tend to be leechers, cheaters, or stupid. If they are just newbs and have mics, I'll play and help them out. But I never, ever pug alone. May as well solo.

I've pugged every game I've ever played, all 1447 of them (except the few solo matches for weekend ops). I find PC pugs to be fun and the horror stories greatly exaggerated.

Plat PUGs are a nightmare. Never see anyone who knows what they are doing, and too often find myself on Rio/Reapers with the other 3 hiding in a box. Annoying.
Gold PUGs can be fun, but often turn into a grind. Good solo practice though as I usually have to solo a few waves. Do find some good teams once in awhile however.
Don't do many silver PUGs anymore, but you can get quite a mix there. Some teams are solid, others don't have a clue. Its always fun though.

I still play with PUGs, though last night reminded me of my biggest compliant: USE YOUR ROCKETS WHEN YOU ARE IN TROUBLE AND/OR CORNERED.
If you are surrounded by Banshees, Brutes, Pyros, Phantoms, etc. and you get downed, DON'T MEDIGEL then use your M-8 to try and get out of it. Either stay down so we can try get to you or rocket out.
Exceptions for those that didn't have any rockets, of course.

Don't forget trolls too, a friend or yours told me about a new pug who trolled you hard.
Back on topic I like playing pugs because they the make the game more difficult due to not knowing how your teamates will play. They also keep your skill up by not making every match a guaranteed extraction, which is pretty rare when playing with friends.
