This is a bad example but about the only way I can stomach synthesis is usually is as femshep playthrough with a Thane romance... so when I jump into that big ol' green beam embracing death like it was the Thane express.... i'm 'going to sea' in my own mind with a smile on my face.
It sounds mental I know but it works. Siha and Thane reuinted - now everything is right with the galaxy... everything else is just the cherry on top.
I like Liara for Control endings (watching over her for 1000 years), Miranda for control, Ashley, Jack or Garrus for Destroy endings. Liara romance with a refusal ending is beautifully sad. Each suits each of their respective personalities and reinforces the narrative imo.

Male Shepard's soul mate is Kaidan. It works whether you use console commands in ME1 or not. A faithful long-lasting relationships or two old friends finding something more in each other.
I fully agree, though like everyone else has said, It's personal preference. Almost all the LI's work... Except Jacob and probably any flings you have via the new DLC. Then again who wouldn't want half human half prothean love babies:wizard:
not to start anything, but I actually often times prefer romance to romance (maleshep and Garrus is better than maleshep and Tali)
but I didn't like that the one sensitive guy happens to be the one bisexual guy. I liked Kaidan as a drinking buddy more than a boyfriend.

Liara got far less than she deserved, and the other ridiculous romances got far more than they deserved.

I haven't done a broshep yet. But I like Liara, Miranda, and Tali for him the best. My husband tends to favor Tali for paragon shep, and Miranda for renegade.

Fem-I actually like Thane, but Garrus probably trumps it.
Not Ashley after her treatment in ME2/3.
Granted, I hated her almost from the beginning of ME1, but she was primed to be the canon Human LI.
I loved her but she got thrown to the sidelines in ME3 i think her VA or her writer pissed someone off [\\quote]
i did catch that, I missed her in me3, but the strained romance is good in my opinion. Sucks that Liara and Kaidan seethe new poster characters. I like Kaidan, but I Prefer Ashley, and Liara...there are three squadmates who I like less than her.

In me1 I romanced ashley because I saw she wasn't actually racist and just concerned and had some depth unlike liara at the time.
Then me2 came along and ash seemed as if she had gotten over it after the 2 years, so I noticed Miranda because I was a fan of yvonne even though her face model wasn't the greatest in me2.
And then me3 ash was all like oh shep so you cheated on me and well I thought that was nice and all she still cared but too bad until Miranda said she couldn't get on the ship and saw her too infrequently, but I actually didn't know about the whole locking in thing my first time playing and locked ash in before talking to miranda and she died at horizon. Thus kind of propelling me forward without making a solid choice about it in 3.
after watching citadel I think I would have picked Miranda.
tried Liara and the lotsb continuation from me1 was great but then in me3 shes all like FRIENDS! wut? felt broken.

Liara...I like her intelligence and compassion, her curiosity and how she is amazingly driven for an asari of her age/dedicates herself to her goals. Of course, I also found her physically attractive once I met her on Therum. Also...Ali Hillis. The chemistry between Jennifer Hale and Ali Hillis is fantastic (...and Jennifer Hale outright said that Liara is her favourite romance!). I think it improves the emotional and romantic tone of the relationship to an even greater extent. The Asari are also my favourite race by far.
Of all the characters in Mass Effect, Liara understands Shepard better than anyone else in the galaxy. She's the closest thing that my Shepard has to an equal. Her work as the Shadow Broker, her work figuring out how to build the Crucible, and even her work creating the memory capsules in case the current cycle lost the fight is as important as Shepard's work in uniting the races of the galaxy. Their relationship had experienced its ups and downs (Illium...Liara doesn't drop everything to join the Normandy), which makes the romance more meaningful imo.
This all the way, specially the chemestry between actresses (you can guess I go femshep). The evolution of the character really makes the relationship evolve in a very unique way. The only other that could compare, even though most relationships are interesting, is the one with Garrus (the synergy between him and femshep is simply amazing). When it comes to male shep, Tali is also one of the more interesting options, great character evolution and just plain lovable.
Liara's Completely Superficial Bonus: she won't get saggy in my lifetime!
