I have a Stupid Theory Theory. It states that all theories are stupid.
But ... your theory is a theory, thus negating its assertion.
LOGIC BOMB.

Why is The Afterlife taking place halfway through Shepard's tale? How does this solve (1)?
That's what they want you to think!!

My Shep is an atheist, so he doesn't
believe in all this nonsense. I prefer my Mass Effect with space magic
if I have no choice, lets leave actual magic out of it.
See FAQ #2. In short, your Shepard was wrong.

As indicated in this thread, BioWare all but confirmed Heaven Theory's validity.
Recognize that HYR did in one month what byne could not in one whole year.

So by the end of the DLC when they all return to the Normandy they are actually setting out on their Heavenly Chariot to bring glory to the angelic hosts.
But what became of Anderson? Well, his fate is shown here.

If it were heaven, why can't I meet Thane. Legion, Mordin and all the other characters who died? Thane gets a brief stint as a ghost, but surely there's no reason why I couldn't pop over to Kalahira's crib and chat about the afterlife weather.
An unfortunate side-effect of the player punishment/reward mechanic.
The mechanic being: your afterlife is richer if you saved more squadmates. You're punished for those that died.
Therefore, it's only fair that the punishment be equal and applies to scripted-death squadmates too. =[

I wish there was more of this around the BSN -- more of this creativity. And less of the hate, complaining, and demagogic, viral nonsense.
