The next set of squaddies should have more will and forwardness
Not Barely question you, and if you do something they think is wrong it don't matter they're back to being buddy buddy with you once you get back to the ship.
If you do stuff your squaddies dislike it should effect your relationship,
You playing one way might make them your best pal one playthrough, next there is clear animosity between the two of you and you two might try killing each other at any moment after it's hit its crest.
Essentially take KOTOR 2's influence system to its next step.
and I don't mean, Do X to get them loyal, or fill the relationship bar to get X conversation so you can start a romance.
I mean dynamic evolution that effects how you and that squadmate interact.

That's what went through the whole first game, even in the second one he was taken seriously only by Cerebus and it's in the third you can finally say "Ha! I was right all along"

Yes...because when Shepard lets the Geth destroy the Quarians it doesn't effect his relationship with Tali.
...or on the other side...letting the Quarians destroy the Geth doesn't effect his relationship with Legion.
I mean...with something that drastic...you would think that Tali would throw herself off a cliff...or that Legion would attack you.
If only the game made it so that "If you do stuff your squaddies dislike it should effect your relationship".
Oh wait...

It does. Have you seen what happens when you rat out Rael'Zorah to the Admiralty, for example?

Didn't know there were religious tones in Minecraft, so I'll take your word for it.

- Wrex.
- Miranda.
- Jack.
- Javik.
You need to prove yourself to be competent before they start seeing you as someone worthy.

I like the OP's idea. None of this meek pandering to the "hero's" will. You're in charge, but you're just a person. Others have opinions of their own; they aren't there just to validate your ego. If you murder Falere, I want to see Liara get pissed off. If you exterminate the Quarians, I want Garrus to knock your ass out in the shuttle bay. If you kill Mordin and Wrex AND the VS, your squad should be deeply disturbed by it. Break up relationships. Lock out others. Drive people off the ship, even if it's just one person. There should be tangible repercussions for your actions.

Anyway, yes, more squadmate reactivity to our character's decisions would certainly be a good thing.

I was going to add something about class interrupts, but given present company, that might qualify as flame bait.Steelcan wrote...

I'll add James to that because he always felt a bit rebellious, near the start of ME3 there are various conversation choices where you can correct him and say things like "I'm the commander here" or something to that effect.
