I like to headcanon Cerberus rebuilding Shep to try and get the Prothean Cipher because rebuilding him because he's just that amazing is unbelievable and kind of illogical and silly as an explanation. I liked it in ME1 when Shep was just a very good marine, not some kind of demigod who can do no wrong.
Yes...because becoming the first human spectre ever and having the Council on your side meant nothing. He was just a very good marine...nothing more.
Cerberus wanted the same Shepard from ME1. The Shepard that became the first human spectre. The Shepard that gained the trust of the Council and the council races.
Most importantly...they wanted the Shepard who was a damn good leader...because that's exactly what Cerberus' mission in ME2 needed.
Not because he was "some kind of demigod who can do no wrong".
Hyberbole is fun...I get that...but come on.
