Well obviously the ME3MP will die if they're not there to keep it alive at all in any way... O.o

I don't think there's a need to FASTFORWARD its death, really.

I honestly believe this is the end. They've thrown the promo weapons into the UR item pool and for those of us with lots of credits and already maxed them, the end of the games life is drawing closer.

Getting rather mixed messages. The OP makes it sound like it's just this weekend out but sticking the commendation weapons in with the URs suggests it's done. Oh well, if they are over it was fun while it lasted.

Ah, but another thought just occured...  What if they moved the promotional weapons into the URs because Commendation packs for future operations will pull from all URs, instead?

Now that would be some fun...

Is there any reason why we, the BSN community, can't run these challenge weekends ourselves? One EA employee with admin rights for the activation after perhaps a weekly vote.. It's not rocket science, or at least it doesn't have to be..

Just browsing through the first page, I'm sure someone's beaten me to this particular punch, but nonetheless...

Sounds like this means there will be future ops. The real question is - What will the reward packs be?
inb4biowerplznovictorypacksnoooo

UR packs, surely? People have been asking for ways to guarantee URs for a very long time, and judging by the vernacular of the OP, (i.e. we weren't able to, this weekend) weekend operations are still in the pipeline. The de-promotising of the UR weapons, then, would probably be part of this shift.

My guess is that they need to fiddle a little more with the Commendation Packs to add all the ultra-rare weapons to it. Remember how tricky it was getting gear to drop right at first? Fiddly system. Adding commendation weapons to the bigger pool might be easier than adding N7 weapons to the selective commendation pool.

This is also likely to be why they never "confirmed" our suspicions when the balance changes hit and everyone asked if weekend challenges were over. They remained silent, coy - probably because they didn't want to blow the free-URs secret until they knew when they were going to do it. Just as they're not saying anything more than they have to here. If they were ending weekend challenges, they'd have mentioned it by now - certainly in this post, if not with Operation Lodestar itself. Seems a fairly logical assumption that weekend challenges are at the very least planned to continue, and that the packs will no longer be tied specifically to the five elite N7 weapons.

In other words: They told us when DLC support was ending, and they'd have had plenty of opportunities to tell us by now if weekend challenge support were ending, including this thread we're posting on... and yet, they're staying tight-lipped! I think it's very unlikely that this is where operations end, and very likely that it's where they change. But maybe that's just me!

This thread gives me hope of the possibility of future operations.

Hope is good thing, maybe the best of things and no good thing ever dies...

Ah C'Mon !!!! It's OBVIOUS they are avoiding answering the question. Stringing people along. TOYING with you. It's "INCONCEIVABLE" (!) they don't see the question. But clearly no answers are coming.

They answer specific questions about minutia but not the hundreds of queries about whether or not this is the end of weekend ops. Which is all based on speculation anyway.

In fact if I were suspicious and cynical I would say they skipped this weekend just to drag out the drama here. But I am not, so who cares.

Thanks for the update.

A thought: given resources, what about monthly challenges? Still something new to look forward to, and with more time to set up less of a drain on Bioware personnel/resources in supporting MP, and with more time could brainstorm some interesting ones?

Another thought, in addition to human-created monthly challenges, if it can be setup automatically (so no need for Bioware personnel to spend undue amounts of time) what about setting up automated random weekly challenges where the system is most likely to choose bronze, up to say 1% chance of choosing platinum difficulty, picks 1-3 of weapon/kit/opponent needed, and assigns a random name (or maybe a person assigns the name after seeing it).

If that's not realistic, then monthly challenges would I think be a nice way to keep interest in MP without drawing too much of Bioware personnel time.

It would also be nice if it were possible and not unduly difficult to open up past challenges as something that can be completed any time? Since I started MP I did all challenges except for the recent insanity one, so I don't really have any complaints, but some people I'm sure would like to get banners etc. So long as N7HQ revealed the date of completion as being more recent, nothing dishonest about it.

I think when they stop making operations, they should loop the old ones. Then we could complete challenges we might have missed and get award packs and some banners we might have missed.

Hope for the best, expect the worst.

Best case: Ops will continue, Success gives UR.
 Worst case: Ops are over.

Don't really understand all the fuss about the weekend ops. Nobody ever said they would stop. In fact, if I remember correctly, BroJo & Co. did confirm during the Twitch streaming of the Reckoning DLC that the ops would continue in the future. I don't think that they actually meant these two ops as "future".

I think there are 3 reasons:

1. No operation this weekend
2. This blog entry: http://blog.bioware....-mass-effect-3/
3. Operation Lonestar was the biggest so far AFAIK and some of us could think this is a form of saying goodbye, just like the CItadel DLC.

Im leaning towards ops are done with. If you click on the banner in that link it comes up as FinalChallengeBanner.jpg :crying:

Complete stab in the dark here but I'm guessing Lodestar probably was going to be the last Op ever but then you saw how many people logged on to play and/or the hours they spent playing.

Ergo your bosses decided not to sack them off entirely because there's still potential for money to be made, however the order came down late, so there wasn't enough time to bodge something together.

Am I close? B)

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad you're planning something for the future but a tiny bit more detail wouldn't go amiss :innocent:

The operations should be easy just do a random 50000 points on <weapon, ability, kit, enemy type, etc> or extract x times against <enemy>, promote x characters. This can easily get more than 52 challenges out of those. The data is already tracked as part of the challenges so should not need much new work.

The challenges are required for new players, a new player with base kits and weapons is going to be stuck on bronze, it takes ~7 bronze matches for a chance at a UR weapon (psp/arsonal/reserve pack). For a new player moving to silver is difficult and with the massive size of manifest with all the DLC it makes the particular weapon/kits you like take far longer to get then it did when the game was released. The weekend challenges gave them a guaranteed nice weapon every weekend as most didn't require ability beyond playing bronze for no credits.

They made progression possible instead of extremely time consuming. The only way to keep MP viable is to attract new blood in.

Well, they can't use this same excuse next week, so I suppose we're absolutely going to find out what's going on by next Thursday.

As it has been said above already. Recycle old challenges, let us do the ones we missed, provide two N7 weapons in the next commendation pack. Whatsoever, there are many people out there playing ME3MP!!!!
And I don´t wanna hear "dead". This thing is alive for sure!!!!

If the operations are will still working. I definitly sure, that commendation packs will now rewards UR's. Well good option, than making the pack with 100% chances for UR's for 500K credits.

But obviously... Only one UR per week we can get, if my idea will true.
