I think Ash would wear the whole "spacecop" label pretty well. And she wouldn't be as much of an idealist as Kaidan. Not a bad thing in this case. Kaidan's obviously more powerful with the biotics, but she isn't a bad candidate imo.
So with everything said and done, Kaidan or Ashley?

I can definitely see both of them in that position, for different reasons. They're both capable individuals that can more than handle themselves on the battlefield. I've always felt a bit bad that Shepard gets to be the Hero of the Citadel and whatnot, but the companions seem to get little of that recognition, even though they end up facing Sovereign all close and personal together with Shepard in the end. Heck, even James asks Ash/Kaidan, "You know the Commander?" at the beginning of ME3. And I'm like, "Know her? KNOW HER? They served together on the Normandy! They defeated Saren and Sovereign together! How dare you?" ![]()
