I always save kaiden on virmire.  ashley is a racist biatch, blus got the same name as dude from the Evil Dead.

I also never vist kaaiden in the hospital in ME3, and shoot him during the standoff with udina.

both characters never interested me and I could care less if they make it to my cerimonial wall prayer service.

Ash is a bit more annoying about Shepard's Cerberus past but Kaidan's voice gets annoying sometimes.

Leaving Ash on Virmire was quite a natural choice on my first playthrough. Only one of my chars had her survive.
In Mass 3 she gets the thorazine and leaps miles away from the Battlebiatch everyone loved/hated in the first game. I think that was an Xtreme Xample of fanservice.

I prefer Kaidan as a whole. He might seem bland but i think that's the character's point: he's an island of normality in the freakshow you put together (i use that word with affection). That he manages to be that way even with his Biotic past and present is quite impressive.

On the practical side he's always been a useful element, and a top choice for my Soldier character.

I ended up liking Kaidan more by the end. He felt like a good friend to my male Shepard. Then again, his death is more tragic, so the sense of loss is more realistic...

I find Kaiden extremely boring, I always leave him to guard the bomb. Don't need him I usually play vanguard

Kaidan. He's a more valuable squad mate than Ash to save on Virmire- higher ranking and a biotic. He becomes much more useful in ME3 too, especially since the squad is in short supply of biotics.

I liked Ash in ME1 (never saw her past Virmire) but Kaidan's always been the obvious choice. That, and most of my FemSheps have romanced him at some point.

Let's see, usually Kaidan survives virmire but only because my renagon shep thinks he is more an asset than Ash, her being only a grunt and Kaidan being a biotic. She then either kills Kaidan or ships him off as soon as possible. So Kaidan through default.

I'm yet to get around to importing a Kaidan save into ME3. So Ash by default.

Ashley is one of my favorite characters in both ME1 and 3, Kaidan never made it past Virmire.

As much as I don't like Ashley, Kaidan had no personality, he died.

I like them both. But if forced, I'd probably choose Kaidan. Personality-wise, he's pretty consistent across all three games. In contrast, Ashley in ME3 leaves a lot to be desired. She has little content aside from the drunk scene, which I felt was a bit out of character. Also, when she does have ambient dialogue, I sometimes felt like her writer just gave in to the xenophobe interpretation of her character that some of the fanbase has.

I genuinely like Ash but I save Kaidan more times, just based on his skills and the fact that he's my LI.

Basically this. Such a shame really, Ash use to be my favorite character when I was just starting out in the series.

coming from someone who picked ashley as a canon LI through out the series, id pick kaiden.

ashleys character in ME3 isnt the same one it was in ME1, and "starting fresh" with ashley in ME3 was a letdown. how am i supposed tofeel apealed to by staying loyal to ashley if newb sheaprd gets the same thing? the beginning of ME3 was awesome with ashely. ashley was involved with everything and up untill she made it back to the normandy there was nothing. i felt more of a connection to my hamster, literally. her character didnt evolve and her trust became an annoyance.

atleast kaiden offers some combat abilities i can use.
