Kaiden is so frickin boring...and he get's killed way too easy. Ash is a bit b*tchy, but at least she kills Geth good...and isn't too hard on the eyes either.

Legion displays more emotional range than Kaiden.

Since fanboying/-girling over shepard is the default emotional state in the MEU I'd say Kaidan's reserve counts as a refreshing change of pace when even geth software that isn't even programmed to fake emotions can't help it.

Ash. More interesting character. I hate Kaidan's whining and Sbarge's voice...

Doesn't matter. One is reduced to radioactive dust and the other gets a bullet to the gut.

Depends on your character for what bonus powers you want to have. But, assuming you already have all the bonus powers unlocked. Kaiden and Ashley get alot better in ME3. Kaiden's got Barrier and Reave, which can make him pretty tank-like and he could set off biotic exlplosions, And Ashley has Disruptor Ammo + AMPLIFIED Concussve Shot, which can even be Better than Overload, + Ashley has Inferno Grenades which you can then use powers afterwards to get a ton of fire explosions. So really go with whoever suits your characters arch-type more. Dispite what some people ay they are both good.

I always killed Kaiden back in ME1(I was a Soldier) NOT because I hated him, but because Garrus was basically Kaiden 2.0, he had the important stuff I needed from Kaiden, the hacking, And he was good at assualt rifles and sniper rifles. Does this mean I used Ashley alot? No, not because I hate her either but because I was a Soldier and Wrex is just... Hes a Krogan Tank with Shield Boost, Barrier, Warp, Assualt Rifle and Shotgun Training... With great health regeneration what more do you need in ME1? lol

Neither i guess, i did not use Ash and Kaiden in me1 much and in me 3 i found kaiden more
useful but i dont care to much for either of them if i was forced to choose i would say kaiden
purely gameplay wise.

Depends for me.

I meh Kaidan. I horrifically hate Ashley and damn her to the lowest pits of hell. Kaidan would seem an obvious choice: I like him much more than I ever will for Ashley. He's a powerful Biotic, whereas Ashley is a grunt, like one of the other many thousands of grunts in the alliance. Kaidan is a rational officer with combat leadership experience. Ashley has never had a posting anywhere special, and her attitude and beliefs are problematic. Kaidan is much calmer and much more open minded.

That said, I love to troll Ashley. I love to have her in ME2/3 and be a total jackass to her for the sake of it. I hate her character that much. Gameplay wise and using rational logic, there's no reason not to save Kaidan. Storywise, Ashley, since I like to completely screw her over constantly.

ME1 I preferred Ashley, great character. Kaidan was quite boring. However Ashley is handled so poorly in ME3 I think it's best to let her die with honour on Virmire than become the barbie doll hooker with an alcohol problem a la ME3.

Kaidan all the way. His conversations reveal that he's got quite a temper and when people that he cares about, or people that he views as vulnerable, get hurt it really sets him off. In spite of that, he still manages to be an all around good guy that gets along with most everyone, so he's not just the naturally nice guy, he's working at it. Plus, I have a soft spot for Sentinels, the combination of tech and biotic powers is too useful for me to pass up.

Must say - the better character in the end is Kaidan. He got more content, more overall love by the developers and felt like a character.

Ash was decently done in ME1, felt the same in ME2 (despite her short cameo - her character was perfectly in line with ME1!Ash) but ME3 was one huge disappointment. Basically, Ashley returned only to the crew because BW had to. I bet a lot of those guys wished Virmire would never have been a decision - and killed Ash right there.
I say that because Ashley is nearly a non-character in ME3. There's no hook-up potential and new players don't get the idea why some people like her at all. I totally can understand anyone who ignores Ash and let her die or send her with Hackett since she has nearly no content that improves the player's understanding of her character.

Well, needless to say that statement comes from a die-hard Ash fan who's still majorly disappointed by the lack of any noteworthy content for Ash. And she usually got the shortest end of the stick in any DLCs - that also includes the final Citadel DLC. Instead of a romance scene we only got a bar fight that plays nearly identically in both cases: romanced and non-romanced.

It's incredible upsetting for her fans she got reduced to a sexy-looking boozer without any other role except getting drunk and laid. It's a shame what her writer did to her in ME3 after the great work of Chris L'Etoile in ME1.

:(

A lot of people said her character was ruined. Was it the Miranda's makeover or did she get on your nerves more?

Lack of character.
That mirandafied part is nothing against the point she got stripped of nearly all redeeming traits.

I really liked Ashley in ME1. She was a tough, independant female character instead of the typical doey-eyed love interest. I liked her romance a lot. Kaiden reminded me too much of Carth Onasi: whiney and overly sensitive. Consequently I killed Kaiden in all but one of my original playthroughs.

Ashley's paranoia in ME2 pissed me off. Her complete unwillingness to trust Shepard, after telling him what a great and trustworthy guy he was in the ME1 romance, made me question my LI choice. I switched to Miranda and never looked back.

ME3 made me regret my choice more because I had two soldiers in a squad of seven, and my main Shepard is also a soldier. From a gameplay perspective, Kaiden fits better in ME3 because his abilities aren't redundant with another character. I understand they had to include James so that non-soldier Shepards who saved Kaiden would have a combat specialist. I think they should have balanced Ashley's abilities better. For one thing, Disruptor Ammo is a poor choice for a sniper, and Garrus beats her out in that role. They should have given her some better tech abilities and turned her into a Sentinel / Soldier hybrid like Kaiden. Her time as Anderson's special agent would justify the new skills.

That said, I do enjoy Ashley's romance in ME3. I just have to grit my teeth and smile when she starts into the "You worked with Cerberus to stop the Collectors, how can I trust you?" garbage.

As characters, I liked them both in ME1 (although I used Kaidan more because I liked having an all-biotic squad and having everything and everyone in the air all the time) and had equal numbers of playthroughs for each of them.

In ME3 though Kaidan was by far the better character with better content (and again I prefered his powerset), so I actually edited all but one of my Ash-VS gamesaves to swap her for him.

I'm agree with the incompetent writer thing. He wrote two of my favorite characters (screwed both of them). And in the Citadel he didn't even consider something that many people was waiting for: the convo betwen Ash and Miranda, the clash betwen ice and fire.

I'm consistently surprised by the fact that people say Ash doesn't get much content- do people not count the multiple conversations in the hospital?

I usually save Ashley more. I see her as a tough sister, take no nonsense type of woman. I agree'd when Shep says she goes to Ashley for opinions from the heart, rather than the head as she would with Kaidan.

My last few ME playthroughs have been Ashley. Once I start it up again maybe next month [Since I literally just finished beating ME3 again] I will save Kaidan for variety and to see how he plays through the Citadel DLC.

Even when my femshep romanced Kaiden he was not a compelling character to me. Ashley seemed more real. She was flawed and sometimes I hated her but that is what a real person is like.
