There's no real need for that "don't like it, get used to it" It has to be refreshing to see a twelth page with no insults being used.

If you think that was insulting... I dunno what to tell ya.  It's not.  If someone IS insulted by simple statements of fact... that's their problem.

It has everything to do with it being 12 pages AT ALL.  It's a mountain being made out of an anthill.  It's 12 pages about what amounts to HAIR (and apparently a uniform that she doesn't even have to wear outside of roughly 15 seconds of screen time).

If your having a problem with this discussion, then why are you here?

Because it's this sort of trivial bull**** that led to the Mako getting scrapped and Harbinger shoved off stage.  Fans who simply can't shrug and say, "Okay... whatever..." and instead inflate the issue into "OMG GAMEBREAKING FLAW!"

This... just isn't a big deal guys.  Can we stop pretending it is?

It's twelve pages of talking about Bioware needlessly redesigning a character to have more sex appeal.  It's what fans do.

You are the one making a big deal of this, poking your nose into a thread without contributing to the (so far pretty civil) discussion.  to the point of derailing it, I might add.

For me it is about the bigger picture of females in video games, this character wasn't the typical damsal in distress with the sole purpose of being a shallow character with super model features. Now she has been rendered to eye-candy, that is what is insulting. And yes that is a big deal to the gaming community.

I also feel your pain on the Mako being scrapped and Harbinger being reduced to nothing.

I see. Do you feel that the character development we see for her in ME1 is undone by the cosmetic changes that were made to her in ME3? Also, which troubles you more, her lack of character development in ME3 or her change in appearance?

No, her cosmetic has not ruined her development in ME1 and 2. Both of her lack of character development and cosmetic rendering troubles me. It feels like she was prettied up in order to make her noticeable to make up for the lack of character development.

Edit: I did a bit of a bad job cleaning up the quotes there.

How do you manage to connect one to the other? Would you say the same if they made her ugly?

It's also the latest link in a pattern of behavior in the Mass Effect series to make most of the women (and quite a few men) into eye candy.

Matriarch Benezia used to be an exception.  Now it's pretty much standard.

The "Okay...whatever" attitude isn't any better

Bioware is the reason those things get scapped because instead of looking to improve those they decide to cut it out (IMO Bioware improved Harbinger in Arrival)

People here aren't acting like its a game breaking flaw, but redesigning a character for the sole purpose of just adding sex appeal and actively saying, Yes people are going to call them out on it

I would say the same, I like the character Heather Mason from Silent Hill 3, because she had a certain appeal yet she has visible physical flaws.

That is my connection to Ashley. Heather's development was done accordingly to give out a realistic sex appeal with flaws, which Ashley did have until ME3.

It is an odd pattern considering what the Dragon Age team did with Aveline, but obviously they're different teams with different ideas. Sex appeal can work so long as it does right and not over done as you know.:D

Well, we already know they gave her more sex appeal so that people would take notice if they didn't before. But you're making it sound like they only gave her sex appeal because Ashley lacked character development in ME3. I just don't think that's the case. I believe those two things are seperate.

Did anybody else think Chell from Portal when they saw this?

Also, that hoodie doesn't look bulletproof.

They are seperable, I easily get bitter about this as I still think her appeal change was unnecessary as she is more about looks than character.

Can't say I think it was was anything to do with changing looks instead of character development, just a case of "Ooh, we want more ******!", the sort of thing that you'll end up with if you put teenage boys in charge of the character design.

We got to drop this ridiculous attitude that any kind of 'sexualization' is obviously because BioWare wants to bring in 13-year-boys and basement dwellers. It's flat-out nonsense.

David.

"Ashely's reappearence in the series, we let her hair down and gave her sex appeal."

She had sex appeal before ME3.

Seriously.

Its like they took all the sexy from where it belonged (the love scenes) and then put it somewhere it didn't (the combat outfits).

Just dumb.

I was never a fan of her character in ME1, but ME2 made me really hate her, so it's really no love lost on me. I romance her in ME1 and keep her alive in ME3 for dramatic purposes, and for the sake of fan fiction.

ME2 in particular reinforced my hatred of her, and ME3 showed no deviation for me. After playing through ME1 several times and checking everything out, my loathing of her character has never wavered.

She's a video game version of Debra Morgan.
