But then Ash was there in ME2 in her old armour and ****ed at me about Cerberus, and while understandable I thought well, maybe sensible Ash will return in ME3.

But no. It was not to be. She got a makeover that kinda threw out all the things I liked about her as a Squad mate in ME1 and then ****ed at me for most of ME3. So very tempting to have shot her.

Okay... hold up... wait.

So... you loathe all those characters because of how they were superficially based on appearance...

... then declare that everything you like about Ashley was thrown away because of her appearance?

Pardon me while I go crosseyed.

I guess people aren't allowed to change their appearance from time to time.<_<

Garrus' new outfit is a "change of appearance"

Ash's makeover goes far beyond that and you know it.

I'm confused. How'd she get a makeover in that crater on Virmire?

Now that is a damn lie and you know it. And reducing a character to "sex appeal" is just wack as hell, my dude.

Got ol' girl looking like a bird of paradise.

Got both my Virmire squad outchea paler than Ashy Larry.

I didn't put words in anybody's mouth.

You are aware of why the devs changed her appearance, right?

Plain sex appeal?

It sucks but what drew me to ME was how it tried to be realistic to the world it was in, in the original game all the armour looked like a cross between diving suits and space suits for most part before they had many heavily armoured components in the next games.

The look of Ashley was the same, she seemed like an ordinary woman and that was more sexy than her model look in the third game.

I don't really give a crap about Ashley. The VS was what it was. It dictated that two important characters be merged into one inconsequential one and that's what happened.

The boobs don't bother me, because they just slapped a generic female body on her in ME1, so you can't hold that as gospel. I mean, Chakwas has the exact same body as Liara had in ME1. Do you really believe a post-menopausal doctor has a slender model body with perky breasts? NO! It's just a generic body. If she was given her own unique one, clearly her proportions would be different. Same applies to any character -- when they are given a unique body, that's how they were always supposed to look. Call it a retcon if you must. Really, it's just adding details where none existed before.

The archetype of the tough soldier chick with the ample bosom is all over science fiction. We could fill up this thread with examples.

However, I'm not a fan of what they did from the neck up. Her makeover looks like she literally went on a daytime talk show and got a TV makeover. I find it to be pretty gross. It undercuts the image of a soldier when it looks like she spent 2+ hours on her hair and makeup before heading into battle. I mean, he hair covers one of her eyes. Doesn't she need to be able to see?

Oh well, like I said: I don't care about Ashley.

Chakwas got pretty damn hot in ME3 as well, but no-one complains about her.

..or is it just me that thinks that?

It's because Miranda was so bloody popular that they felt the need to try and sex Ashley up in order to top that. They did the whole makeover thing better with Kaidan - all it took was that simple added moustache and he goes from modestly attractive to being able to turn heterosexual men wet with one upturned brow. Or was that just me?

In any case, I don't normally go for Ashley, but I've been doing a playthrough with her recently, and I stopped noticing the change of appearance about five minutes in. Maybe it's because she still has the same personality as before and the voice acting is just as good as ever, so what else matters? People overstate the ****iness thing on Mars - we can all agree that James was the true whingeguts on that particular mission.

I've always hated Ashley.

Now I just laugh at her. She looks absolutely terrible.

She pales in comparison to Miranda.

The only reason Ashley doesn't end up as a nuclear crater is because I have too much fun hating her.

I have use for her in the story. From every other perspective, Kaidan is the obvious choice, but for the sake of narrative in my fan-fic and game, I keep her alive as the old flame and ostracized former member of the Normandy who comes back to cause trouble for him.

They didn't even try to disguise it either. In fact, they said it directly, but being that the same diduntdidunt wrote EDI "needed to be sexy" I'm not even surprised.

But if nothing else, that "uniform" is straight up ugly. Like, how they gonna say they were "increasing her sex appeal" but have her running around looking like she fell into Oops I did it Again castaways, my dude? Looking like some bargain bin upholstery. How they gonna let her look like a cheapass IKEA couch?

Image IPB

"WHAT'S GOOD, FAM?"
"NOTHING MUCH, ASH, JUST CHILLIN'"

lbr she was so underdeveloped that she basically a couch in ME3

It's fine to say you prefer how she looked in ME1 and ME2. What I don't like is when people say she's been turned into Miranda or that the character was ruined because of the change in appearance. That is simply not true.

I find it hilarious that Bioware decided to give her sex appeal by making her look like a post op tranny.

I thought she was much prettier in ME1. I think her wearing her hair down is what really bothers me because she's a frontline soldier at least put her hair in a ponytail. I still like Ash a lot though, I just wish they would have thought about her makeover a bit more.
